After blowing up video! Yes indeed it was a copper head and poisonous. Dawn and I treat all snakes with respect and usly back away and let them move on.
Notice how the shapes on its side looks like Hershey Kisses, one of the easiest ways to know that it IS a Copperhead and venomous. That one did have a nice bright copper color head, but they aren't always nice and bright like that. And forget about the cat eye pupils because (1) who wants to get close enough to look for a slit pupils, and (2) some venomous snakes do have round pupils though uncommon here in the US other than the Coral snake.
Oh my goodness..!!..the trails that you hike are very peaceful and serene..not alot of people either..the cabin is well preserved..the snake I could do eithout, but he is in his element, so we have to let him move on...☺..thank you for going there,,
Will , Dawn and William,, thank you so much for hiking to the Water Sisters Cabin. Brings back lots of great memories for myself from many many years ago. Thank you again.
Will and Dawn we thoroughly enjoyed this video. We are regulars to Metcalf Bottoms, but with our bad knees we are unable to hike. We have only dreamed of seeing the Walker sisters homestead, and you have made that possible. Thank you!
That hike was awesome. Thank you for letting me tag along. I wish my health would let me hike but those days are over. Thank y'all again. Stay safe. I love you guys and God Bless.
Thank you so much for your videos. I have always wondered where the cabin was, so thanks to this video I can now hike to it on our next trip. I love watching you and Dawn!
Right after you cross the bridge and you are walking up to the school there was someone standing in the window. I had to watch twice. Thought I was seeing things at first. Awesome
This is one of many Hikes that are so Beautiful with so much History Just to know that, once a upon a time there, there were people Living in these cabins I bet it must have been harder to do anything in the Winter Who would think that there would be History in these Trails. Lovely story of people living here This was a Lovely hike with many Beautiful Stories Life was a little harder to live Nature has a story to tell about these Trails and it's Beauty
This was very interesting. I have good friends that are related to the Walker sisters. We live in indiana. Their dad was jack Walker. They visit every year for a reunion. An they always go an visit the homestead an clean out brush an help take care of it.
After seeing that snake laying out like a root amongst roots....😱 the rest of the video I was watching the trail and bushes for more 🐍🐍🐍😂....That is until you started telling the history behind the sister's cabin as you walked then I was so into the story I didn't think about about the snake🐍 anymore... love how long walks and a great story can just take you back to another place in time...AND TAKE YOUR MIND OFF SNAKES 🐍🐍🐍😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Thanks for sharing! your an awesome story teller Will🤗....nice to meet ya smoky mountain hiker 😊👍Dawn you may need to break out your hiking stick for future hikes 😊👍
This is one of my favorite places in the park to hike and it is easy to get to from Gatlinburg. No crowds and away from the main tourist traps. Great for a family excursion with kids. Easy to moderate walk. Drive to the Little Greenbriar school and park there if you need to. If you are a history buff study the history of the school and the graveyard. The Walker homestead story up the trail is such a refreshing remembrance and testament to the early days of our Republic and the American way of life. The site is well maintained. A great place to have a snack lunch and return then back to Gatlinburg at a descent hour for afternoon activities and dinner in town.
Metcalf Bottoms area has always been special to me. During my elementary years, we would go to the Little Greenbriar Schoolhouse and be taught a lesson by Ms. Elsie. She was a character...a legend...and one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. After our lesson, we would hike to the Walker Sisters Cabin to work off our brown bag lunch. (It felt like we walked for hours and hours!) I’ve made the trip several times as an adult. But nothing compares to the experience as a kid.
Love the hike!!! Awesome seeing Smoky Mountain Hiker with you, just had the pleasure of seeing him briefly Saturday at Dollywood! Dawn, last summer I almost run up on a copperhead on my evening walk at home. It was laying in the road and it was at dusk so I barely saw him. My dog was walking ahead and 2 more steps he would have stepped on him and I'm sure been bitten. I jerked his leash back so quick it probably gave him whiplash!! 🤣 Awesome day y'all! ~Dawn
Kinda bummed didn't make the hike when we went in June looks absolutely stunning awesome video friends sledgehammered that like button and sharing to Twitter and really enjoyed this video
I can't tell you how much I am enjoying your videos! I lived in Tennessee for three years and Cades Cove was our favorite place to visit. Did a search on RUclips and came up with some of your videos and loved them. So much so that you were the first channel I subscribed to and the first I posted on, hope I'm doing it right! Will you are a book of knowledge and Dawn you are so sweet. Oh, and I love Honey bear too!
Snakes the root of all EVIL! lol. This is really pretty would it be ok for a beginner? It's dark. My small little car wouldn't make that I don't think. I gotta be careful about steep. It's only 4 cylinder rollerskate lol. That's awesome way to go sisters! Stick it to the national park! Those water crossings make me think of robin hood men in tights.... you gotta pay the toll to pass..... lol. How fast does it get hot there?brave will for peeking up stairs I love these kind of vlogs. Where you not only get to hear history but see it as well. It's so peaceful.
Hi...luv your videos...I just watched the one you hiked to the walker sisters cabin...I know you hiked in thru the picnic area because that road is closed...but I noticed when you got to the schoolhouse there was a vehicle parked there...you can see part of a road...is that road acceptable to anyone to drive to get there...where can you access it from...keep the videos coming...hoping to do this hike in sept...thanks
Just saw this video today. One of the best. Glad you guys didn’t take a chance walking by that snake. More people a bitten by Copperheads than any other snake in the U.S. Coppeheads give no warning. They are very aggressive and strike at anything passing by them. Take care guys!
JUST stumbled onto your site. Beautiful countryside. Enjoyed the relaxed journey and the sounds of nature vs. music recorded over the quiet walk. Very peaceful. Do you do a lot of hiking? Thank-you.
A pretty day for a hike Thanks fir sharing the experience if history is so amazing Tenn has so much to offer . Going to 7Eleven for a Slurpee Lol you guys are awesome I don't care for snakes as well Well cant wait till the new water park in seville next year Keep up the good work Happy trails
Copperhead snakes will chase you! Very poisonous!! Watch out when stepping over logs. Snakes like to hide under or around logs and strike as you step over them. Love watching your videos.
A little history for you Sevier county did not secede from the Union if you wanted to join the Confederacy you had to go to Blount county cocke county or Jefferson county
Read about Thomas Legion..Gatlinburg was under Confederate control until 1863..The Confederates mined Saltpeter up at Alum Cave to make their Gunpowder..Mountain Folk throughout the South wanted to remain in the union because they had no slaves and believed the Civil War was a Rich Mans War.
I was at smoky last year June with my daughter and hike. We see too many snake. I love hike and I love the smoky mountains but I hate snake 😣 When is good time to hike without them?
Love watching you guys. Planning on hiking this trail very soon with the wife, however I’m a little hesitant being that we’re novice hikers and not in the best of shape fitness wise. Just wondering how difficult the hike really is?
That yucca filamentosa is actually native but not as common in that area like in the lower south. Does look really out of place in a temperate rainforest though lol
Did that trail 2 years ago also came across a snake I was walking ahead husband seen it I freaked out and refused to go back that way so made my husband walk main road back from the sister cabin at the school house we walked main road lol hate snakes yuck !!!!!! 😱🙈🙊🙉
Either a WaterSnake , which have large fat bodies and live in or near water. or CopperHead, they look similar. If you cannot see his head. like you said stand clear. !!
After blowing up video! Yes indeed it was a copper head and poisonous. Dawn and I treat all snakes with respect and usly back away and let them move on.
Glad all were ok, Have a wonderful day.

Yes I have to agree with you on STOP CARVING YOUR INITIALS INTO History relics or places that’s not yours to tamper with.
A little history for you Sevier county did not secede from the Union if you wanted to join the Confederacy you had to go to Blount county cocke county or Jefferson county

The Hershey Kiss shaped markings are a dead giveaway for a copperhead.
Thanks Gonzo Files
Also will is there a trail that a person with limited walking ability, can see a fall or water? If so which one. Ty
Cataract Falls behind SugerLands and the Sinks thanks Shopper Girl
I have a question? Not about this video. But do you ever find coupons for the restaurants you visit? And if so where to get them. Ty
Their are booths inside and outside of reasteraunts that have coupon books thanks Shopper Girl
It’s to bad they don’t do a little repair on the roof and the fireplace’s
