Two-man Flag Fold Detailed Techniques

  • More on how to properly fold the American flag from The DrillMaster. I developed these techniques over the years and am sure that someone else may have the same or similar techniques.
    Please do not pay attention to other flag fold videos online as almost all of them are incorrect. There is even a flag company that has a video showing the flag being folded on a table backwards and upside-down.
    "Man" does not mean male. "For He created man and He created them male and female." We are man. There is no place for a political correctness agenda.

      Does each branch have their own folding? I watched John Glenn's funeral and the Marines folding ceremony seemed awkward. The first fold wasn't triangular and the tucking the end with the grommets was not like yours.

    When I was in grade school we were taught how to take down and fold the flag. We were thrilled if we were chosen to get to be the one that got to fold it at the end of the day. I'd love to see more schools teaching this to the kids and restoring the honor to our flag it deserves.

    The VA provided the flag for my father's funeral. He retired from 30 years of service. I googled the flag ceremony and quickly shared instructions with my older brother at the casket side. The folding went perfectly and the fold was tight. It was presented correctly to his oldest granddaughter. I'm pleased to have learned about the flag ceremony and other flag etiquette.

    My dads funeral was today and the young men who folded the flag did a beautiful job . I’ve never seen it as it was done today . The way he graciously abd tenderly stroked and handled the flag was beautiful . Even when he folded the flag he did it uniquely . He was very gentle but quickly popped the triangle over each time he folded. It’s a very healing and social process to witness and I thank you. Dad was in the Air-force and now my son is in the Marines . If you are learning to fold the flag remember: the details really do make it special and let the family know that you not only respect our flag but also the person who is passed and our country and it a healing process. The best source in learning flag folding is the military. I was asked by a friend of mine if i would do a veteran ceremony for his fiance's grandpa who just passed away. As i am a veteran i told them it would be an honor and privilege to do such an honor. It has been 7 years since i was in the service and this video was the best in a refresher for flag folding.

    Very nice! I was in the Army Military Police for most of my younger adult life. One of our duties was to raise and lower the post flag each day. At one of my duty stations, the flag was situated directly in front of the Post Headquarters, so we had to ensure it was done correctly. To include firing the cannon and playing “Reveille” and “Retreat.” When the flag was folded it had to be done this specific way and when placed in the vehicle it had to be saluted. Folding the flag correctly is extremely important and sensitive to many people. For this reason, we had to follow the same process regardless of whether the HQ was open or not. There was always someone watching, even if we couldn't see them. So you never ever wanted to be seen doing something disrespectful.

I look back with a great deal of sentiment on the days when I was in the car with my grandmother on the way to the Commissary and we would stop on Texas Ave. to let the planes fly over our car as they landed. I also appreciate the school I went to at the time. We had a flag raising every morning with the whole school outside. It was then in third grade that I learned how to properly fold the flag. I have never forgotten and now that I work with kids I will be teaching them.

    I’m currently part of the air force HG at my base and a strong tip to get a nice 1,3,5 star pattern is to cut the first and sometimes even the second triangular folds in half so that once you reach the union the striped part of the flag lands right at the edge of the blue. This will also allow the perfect amount of material to tuck at the end so you don’t have to much or too little.

The triangle fold is special and reserved just for the American flag (with some state flags also folded into a rectangle or another unique fold). American civilians do not have to fold it into a triangle, a rectangle is proper and so is rolling it.

    technical question: I need to refold my father-in-laws flag to get the
    stars to line up before I put it in the flag box I built. Some vids
    show the first fold having the corners line up. Some, like this one,
    there is an overhang of about 2" on the first fold. What is the overhang for? Does it make the stars line up better when completed? Or is this more ceremonial?

    • @TheDrillMaster001
      @TheDrillMaster001  5 лет назад +1

      Having the stars align perfectly is a matter of the manufacturing of the flag. Each fold, including the first, should not break the side edge. Offset stars are not a big issue, unless the flag was folded poorly.

    • @AffordBindEquipment
      @AffordBindEquipment 5 лет назад +1

      @@TheDrillMaster001 But why on the first fold do you align the edge with the top edge of the star at @ 2:39? I have seen it done with the edges equal at military presentation. What is this overlap for?

Evening drop the flags fold them. I'm not gonna lie I'm a pretty good folder. Lol not trying to brag. By the way happy Veterans Day!

      SoDa LeeKo That's great! Please keep this in mind - lowering the flag every day to half staff is not appropriate, it's a form of mourning and should only be accomplished on congressionally approved days and by order of the President.
      Keep up the great work!

    Sir, is there an acceptable way to fold the flag if you don't have a second body available to assist? I just bought a beautiful flag today from a fella on Craigslist but the fold job is...well...terrible.

    • @TheDrillMaster001
      @TheDrillMaster001  7 лет назад +3

    When and why were flags folded? I have one from my grandpa, he served in WWI.... but it fell out of the box and unfolded.....I feel so bad this happened, now I must take it to the loins club for folding! or try and do it my self? I don't want to disrespect it in any way.....thank you!

    • @TheDrillMaster001
      @TheDrillMaster001  6 лет назад

      cookingprof It's not usually unfolded as it is a momento of the deceased's life and service to the country. Unfolding it would be up to the family - maybe to fly it from a personal flag pole.

      Your memory is good, but... On one side there should be a 1-3-5 and on the other there would be a 2-4. So, it's not really possible to have too many , but there could be a 2-4, 2-4, which would not be "enough". Thanks for your service, my friend!

    Jesus Christ loves you so much, receive Him THIS VERY MOMENT! Do you know the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the Divine Person who convicts the world of sin (righteousness and judgment). He alone brings new life to those who are spiritually dead. He places all believers into the one true Church, which is the Body of Christ. He indwells them permanently, seals them unto the day of final redemption, bestows spiritual gifts upon them, and fills those who are yielding to Him.
    Every believer is called to live in the power of the Holy Spirit so that he/she will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of YHWH (God). I invite you to receive our Creator THIS VERY MOMENT by first acknowledging that you are a sinner in need of our Savior. Welcome Abba YHWH (Father God) through Yeshua (Jesus the Christ) into your life. Receive grace by believing in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross, His death, burial and resurrection. Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior whom died on the cross for the sins of ALL human-kind, arose in the 3rd day and currently sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. You will then be justified in salvation and forever blessed with His abundant love by the Holy Spirit! ❤️❤️❤️
