      I'm not surprised at all by these numbers. Well done for giving realistic figures of accountants' salaries. So often we see rubbish written by recruitment agents about how an average accountant's salary is £80,000 etc. In reality, most qualified accountants earn under £50,000.

    In financial management you'll need to bag a senior management role to secure £60k+ Finance Manager/ Finance business partner. At this tier within the business you won't be solely crunching numbers, but influencing decision-making.

      Hey - With work experience in accounting, you're in a better spot than most! I'd say once you get here, feel free to apply for similar position. However, do also apply for Assistant Management Accountant or Management Accountant roles as well. You never know, you could get lucky and that way you'll save yourself a year or two of having to do the same AP/AR role in a different country. I'd also say do some reading on UK specific taxes, at least knowing what they're called and how they work for example, GST vs VAT, Superannuation vs UK Workplace pension. These are common knowledge for any accountants here but something you may not be familiar of. What an exciting time, best of luck!

I'm currently living in Asia, but am looking to move back to the UK soon. As strange as it sounds, I feel like I would need to read up or somehow integrate myself back into the UK accounting industry to find a similar job there. Do you have any advice on what you would do or feel is most important for someone in my situation?

    • @PoppyDontree
      @PoppyDontree  2 года назад +1

      I'd say that your understanding in Asian accounting standards/compliance requirements there should be highlighted as not many here understanding things like withholding tax which we don't have in UK. One of the main differences between accounting here and Asia I find is over here requires less level of details, more trust between customers and suppliers so less detail consolidation work. And obviously everything is electronic based here where I know from my suppliers in China for example still post us audit confirmation letter and require a physical company seal then post it back 😅
