Tbh that twist of Atri's journal really got me at first, like this is getting so good to the same level of some actual quality sci-fi story instead of the played-out "brat kid robot" cliche. Sadly in the end they still went for the "robot gaining a heart" wizard of oz direction. Still, 7/10 since Atri's really cute.
I think there's another theme that people overlook of Atri. And that's death. Atri is a VN that where people think the world is doomed, and if something is meaningless because it's about to end. Natsuki and Atri's conversation on the island pretty much is about that. With Natsuki asking Atri why he wanted to learn stuff at the school if her life was about to end, and Atri asking Natsuki why he said he loves her if he knew her life was going to end, etc. And the answer to all of that it's because it doesn't matter if it ends, one should be happy that it happened in the first place. I think people focus a lot on ''robots having feelings'' thing and overlook how this VN touches on death.
I've been playing Atri for the past 2 months and just finished it last week. Amazing visual novel, would recommend to a friend, and I'm very much looking forward to the anime adaptation!
Oh, and from the perspective of an early Japanese learner, I personally think the Japanese in this game isn't too complex, so I also recommend using it to learn/get used to Japanese
This was the first visual novel I read. The pacing at the start is a bit predictable, but perfect for when you get hit by a gurwrenching blow midway that makes you question that what you took for granted, finalizing in a mature and tragic end. A perfect masterpiece.
I'm so happy I read it. No other story has ever affected me on such a deep level... my chest still feels very tight And I ran out of napkins Atri is wife!
I am currently reading this now. For that reason because I want to catch up to this beautiful work before I watch the anime. Not gonna lie, the story is immersively beautiful. As someone that only plays mostly romcom genre, this VN is really good change of pace 😭
This brings back memories, ATRI was my first visual novel and I really enjoyed it, a shame that I've forgotten most of the details since it's been 3 years. Hopefully the anime adaptation does it justice, otherwise I'm probably going to reread ATRI
I literally completed my Personal review on Atri My Dear Moments a couple of hours ago, and to summarize is that I really enjoyed it, and then here you are with a review that perfectly summarizes many of my feelings towards Atri. I love your review and was quite similar to my own but the addition to the videos and transition really is incredible. Man, I really respect you and your reviews. "Both you and Atri struggle with dealing with complex feelings. Confused when it comes to expressing their emotions. Stuck when it comes to identifying their purpose in life. Sceptical when it comes to their own idea of Happiness." I love these sentences!❤
Yo my guy, I always come to you for VN recommendations, and this video is one of the best essays you have ever made, keep up the amazing work! Funnily enough I also finished this 5 mins ago and first thing I did was come here to see what you said, and I agree with everything wholeheartedly
Also reading this now in preparation for the upcoming anime. The vibes are SO GOOD. It's such a gorgeous melancholic depiction of a dystopian summer. Love it.
Man, I bet Atri is gonna be the best anime of this season. I had a blast playing it after cyanotype lol. Since I had great fun thanks to your recommendations, I will return the favor by recommending u play crosscode. I think u would like it since it has some anime/visual novel style in it. Personally It's one of the greatest game I ever played. Anyways Im looking forward for more vn recommendations !
Just recently finished the VN and had just started watching the anime. I got to say, what a journey it was. A lot of the themes in ATRI were fascinating to me, and in my opinion they are presented in the story quite well. I like how you highlighted the chapter where Natsuki and the gang were able to power up a small part of the school. I wholeheartedly agree with what you said; even though the work they did is not on the scale of the world, it shows that even the slightest thing can be so impactful in their lives. And as we see subsequently, more students are motivated to go back to school. ATRI really shows how a single person (humanoid?) can really change your life, perspective and those around you. Anyways, I love your reviews man also loved your GINKA review ill try to pick it up on sale
honestly, reading Atri i thought the creator just forgot she is a robot, but that was when she started having problems. she was literally just a girl before that, with... well, histories. the ending is INSANE though, the best girl is just crying like a man (and not even given credit in the anime)
I'm a Japanese and have been played ATRI in Japanese and English. I was overwhelmed its story and foreshadows then cried ATRI's emotion. I'd like to appreciate you to adress this masterpiece. I affirm that the anime is worth to watch. ATRI sang "Dear Moments" in episode 6 (brodecasted today in Japan), so we should see through it. "It's been a long time, hasn't it? You've really grown up."
I enjoyed this game, but ATRI being 14 really, really bothered me. That's grade 8! This is my second visual novel (first one being "Hungry Lambs", which also had a male protagonist with a 14 yr old female love interest)... like...just why!? Are people really that into underage girls? Is it suppose to be cute? Honestly, I really enjoy the story and themes in both stories, but I'm seriously considering never playing an Asian visual novel again.
Honestly I was a bit taken back because of how visually pretty looks. This is technically almost a post apocalypse setting lol. But yeah hoping for the best for the anime 🙏
Couple of mounths late to the party, but I just have to say something, because ATRI left me with strong feelings about it. Unfortunately, this feelings are not positive ones. It's the opposite, actually. I wouldn't say I read huge amount of VNs, but I read many of them and ATRI, for now at least, is the only VN I can confidently say about that I regret reading. I was drawn to read ATRI after seeing numerous positive review. I know this is subjective and everything but I just don't understand why so many people think that highly about this VN. The whole story is written as a tear-jerker and imo as the worst type of tear-jerker. Yes, there is some really good and even great emotional scenes and moments, but overall story is just getting sadder and sadder for main heroes. And it's really feels like it sad for the sake of being sad. Even then something good happens with them, it almost immediately overwritten with more sadness. And the ending feels like culmination of this, as it tries to be a bittersweet one, but if you think about it the bitterness easily overpowers sweetness to the point the latter almost didn't exist. When I finished the story, all I can think about it, that it was all pointless for our characters. Kinda ironic for the story about hope and future. Maybe I'm the odd one here who can't appreciate ATRI. I'm just going to say that I liked GINKA, which I read later, way, way more.
Sup dude... Can you make a next video that you reviewed is "yosuga no sora" because while i was at the boring time after playing and repeatedly finishing euphoria 5 times, i just take some time to read some boring articles in Wikipedia and i just decide to search yosuga no sora that i just found out, it was a pure japanese visual novel but after i search some pirated ones that i want to download (because I'm a broke), there's didn't have a english one, that many fan made editors said that yosuga no sora is impossible to translate that game and later they gave up and they rely on anime adaptation instead, so can you make a video for me please
I know this is not your kind of video and that stuff, but are you planning on making a video about the anime? I am torn between if I should or should not watch the anime. Any recommendations after the first episode?
i've bought ATRI 2 years ago. Played about 5 hours over the first year and then haven't touched it in a year now. I honestly don't know why, it just doesn't light anything in me... why though, i usually like this kind of stuff
I think this VN's high ratings are kind of baffling, honestly. It reminds me of the Angel Beats situation. The plot is pretty dull, but for some reason it's still super popular. It's weird how some games can be so well-liked even when their story is weak
@@artempankratov9923it's an easy to understand story about an increasingly relevant topic. Whilst it's not the best, it's good, and it's not a convoluted mess of routes and endings. Is it a faithful 1:1 adaptation to the VN? No. But it adapted well enough for an anime watcher to be content with the story it told, without it coming off confusing without knowledge of it being a VN. Interestingly enough, the ATRI anime works both ways, as an anime watcher and a VN reader. For the former they might go out see the original story for itself. For the latter, the anime is still worth a watch, because of the new unique scenes despite having almost the same story

She's not conscious. She's not sentient. And yet, the way she makes me feel is so REAL.
