Great vid L! I'm new to tubes and that helped a lot. Juat a tip though: what about doing some sound demoes from each tube? I know it ain't perfect over RUclips and everything, but it might give someone curious a hint :) Keep it up!
I don't know of other amps that can swap tubes like the TU-8200R so that's my favourite by default. As for 300B vs the others, that's tricky because I'm yet to find an amp that can run each of those tubes and if we're using different amps, we're not only testing the tubes, but the amp circuits too.
Tubes equals ultimate note separation. k66 is almost a 6l6 and have a tighter low end as el34 more for midrange and a British sound. kt88 are just yummy
You know EMI speakers? They were made by a record company in England and today they come at the lowest prices because nobody knows about them but at a fraction of a watt they produce the deepest bass you ever heard, well equal to DeVore O/96 at much higher watts input. They're too big for cars and they're not 1000 watt sub-woofers so outside your room, they're not going to sound like a party Disco, but in front of them and in small rooms, these are just the most awesome speakers! But ... we have to be sat in front of them and they'll come alive after a few minutes warming up, and they're like the QUAD ESL-57 in years of vintage and if you're behind them or at the side, well they sound pretty bad so don't get caught out. Get in front of them and use high fidelity inputs and you won't get better low power speakers.
Noob question here. Is it common that EL34 amps are able to use all these different tubes? An auto bias is probably something I want to look out for to make the rolling more convenient? I'm looking at this amp for quite a while but didn't pull the trigger yet. Getting an assembled one with the upgraded transformers is fairly hard. This is also the one you modded the headphone output right?
I would say that it's not common for EL34 amps to all take that many tubes because there are some differences between these tubes that need to be accounted for when swapping between them and not all amps can do it. If you're getting an Elekit TU-8200 then yes, that's the one I modified for the headphone output to suit low impedance headphones (below 250 ohms). It's a lovely amp. And finally, auto biasing is a great feature to get if you can. Makes the need for matched pairs much less important (if at all important)
Those tubes aren't widely available, but I think they might be the same as used in some of the small xDuoo tube products like the MT-604. If so, there are some GE and Voskhod options around that can be a nice upgrade.
Tubes have gotten over priced Just going to stay with what I have as they last a freaking long time, wait for better entry point. Was not long ago were very reasonable.
There are different grades of tubes available and these are a premium tube. I believe Ray Tubes are also developing their CORE range which are much lower in price. The 12AU7s and 12AX7s are already available in that range and are very affordable.

Glad you liked the video. Unfortunately, by the time a sound demo goes via your source chain or anyone else's, the truth of the sound is lost. ☹️
@@PassionforSound I assumed as much. Worth asking though :) Have a good one down under ;)
Favorite versatile, top end tube amp? Excited to get into tubes! Curious about how 300b's compare to the kt66/88 and el34... Thanks for the knowledge.

You can also play with driver tube matching with different KT88 to find the right richness balance
try ruby tubes they are really good and have air
Thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye out
tubes are special
💯🎶
I hope apos is working on reserve version of kt88 and el34 as well. And maybe a 300b 🤞
I know there are more tubes in the works, but you'll need to stay tuned to find out which ones... 😉🙂
Add a Reserve KT66 too with the godlike balance of richness and detail and nuances of a GEC KT66
That would be brilliant!

@@PassionforSound Thank you man! 🙏
yes my GL KT88s seem a bit harsh with ATM tweeters. EL34s may correct this?
In my experience, definitely!
Can u kindly recommend for me a compatible replacement tubes that works with fosi P3 pre amp ?

@@PassionforSound no compatible replacement from mullard?
@tamersosman not that I'm aware of
I tried Mullard 8100, really nice sound, good upgrade from the stock tubes.
@@anthony2010707 on which Amp? Does it work with fosi p3?
how do 300b and 6550 tubes compare to these❓
I don't have any suitable to try 300B or 6550s at the moment, but hopefully in the future!
I find this less a guide to tubes as an advertisement for the Ray Tubes .
It would be nice if someone would do this for 300Bs as there is a big variance is price.
I will do it if I ever get the chance with a 300B amp and some suitable tubes.
