Glider Bungee Launches Same Location 75 Years Apart

75 years ago it took a large team of people to launch a glider off our West slope onto the ridge using bungee chords. Today we still launch gliders using bungees on exactly the same slope. However, nowadays it only takes a couple of people.

In 1968 I spent a year at an English boarding school. They had the Cadet Corp which trained kids in things military. The Air Force section did a Glider bungee launch demonstration on the cricket field. The glider did get airborne and flew for 60 feet or so. I thought, well that's one way to do it and headed off to find a secluded place to have a smoke.

I've had but one glider flight. It was enough to let me know that gliding could be a life time of pleasure. However this life is not about forever. Perhaps in the next life...

I took up sailing. Given the same chances I think gliding would have been a better choice.

I guess that manpower or is it community enthusiasm have become scarce nowadays.
