Bruce actually stands to that on the Boof of Souls Tour. His words, if I recall correctly is: "... This is family. This is not one nation, this is not one race, this is not one religion. This all religions, every race, every color, every person, every gender - there used to be two, now is a few more. You know what, we are all family in this together and you everybody is welcome and answer to the bullshit that is going out there at the moment, it's not to be full of hatred, it's to be full o love, and life, and music, and a lot of beer. "
The first of the great thrash metal bands. The bass player, Steve Harris, is the musical force behind the band, IMO. His style, almost like a galloping horse, is a delight to hear (listen to The Trooper and you'll know what I mean). Keep up the great work!
@@patricksimons560 I can see both sides of that. Lyrics are quick so hard to decipher in spots but missing out on the Epic nature of the live performance is no good. Either way, its worth the 13 minutes.
I went online and scoured the internet for an audio recording of that excerpt from Churchill's Speech, and I found it! Now my studio version has a proper "Churchill's Speech" intro! :-) Makes all the difference!
Would you believe that Bruce, the guy running and jumping around like a maniac, was fifty years old when this was filmed? That man knows how to work a crowd like no one else I've ever seen live. Lyrically the song is about the desperate defense of Britain by the Royal Air Force against the German Luftwaffe in 1940. This is what Churchill was referring to when he said "Never have so many owed so much to so few". Those pilots were flying basically without rest in planes that were sometimes just patched up after having been shot down. If Hitler hadn't ordered his air force to switch to terror bombing London in response to a minor raid on Berlin, where previously they had been laying waste to British air bases, Germany just might have gotten enough air superiority to attempt a D-Day in reverse. Also, 1980's Maiden gets a lot of love but not a lot of reactors do their new music. I strongly recommend "Passchendale", a newer song based on a WW1 British soldier's resignation to his own inevitable death in one of the bloodiest battles of human history.
lol This rabbit hole go's very deep, so many albums and great songs! You're starting a journey of epic proportion! But don't worry, the fans will be here to guide and support you all the way, he-he...Chur! _Ugh, I mean 'Up the Irons'_ \m/
Aces High live is always like that. Not just the vocals, but the damn energy of the audience. Everyone goes nuts. It is about the R.A.F (Royal Air Force), and the speech at the beginning is Chruchill making his famous speech "Never was so much owed by so many to so few".
imagine you being there and your 15 yrs.old like i was back in 1985 the show was so amazing we went back the next night and bought scalper tickets and the show was even better .different play list and everything .and i just seen them last month in Anaheim California ,and their still awesome and im 51..enjoy the journey."UP THE IRONS"

What I absolutely love about maiden is the themes of their songs and the sheer power of the whole experience. They hold so much grace and power at the same time. They really are metal royalty.
I have a 'Maiden Live' playlist I use every single time I grill outside, this is always the opening track (including the intro), fucking LOVE this band, and the insane crowds
Great Video! You have breaked down all what makes Maiden the best metal Band of all time in one shot. To make it short he sings about something he loves and interested in: flying a airplane.
In college we had to learn how to use an Apple computer and make an iMovie. My topic was the Tuskegee Airmen. I used pictures of the Red Tails and used this song. The others in the class were kids (18-20), I went back to school in my 30's. They didn't know what to think, but the teacher loved it.
I have subscribed, please do more Iron Maiden. I have been listening to them for 35 years (since i was 12). Live after death is my favorite live album, not just by Maiden, but by any band). Lyrics are alwas good, love youtube with lyrics and music. Much love from the Netherlandsand keepup the irons 🤘🏻🇳🇱 Ps, i wonder if that crowd sung with an accent 🤔
Yes it would be awesome if you did a lyrical reaction to this song! Whenever I have a bad day at work or feeling down, this song ALWAYS pumps me up...changes my mood instantly!
You should do the lyrical breakdown! This song is one of their famous and I've already been to their concerts...the energy is surreal!!! By far my favorite group! Btw I'm a person of color but got hooked on metal from the beginning! From Montreal bro...up the Irons!!! Lol
Man, you gotta keep an eye out to go see them live if they come around your area. You also have quite the library of incredible songs from their many many years of albums.
They just give off a "cool" vibe, like they'd be a great bunch to just hang with. FORTY years, and they're STILL making sure their fans get every ounce of their energy!
This is the best live version of this song. I'm brazilian and 2001 Rock In Rio is one of the best concerts of Iron Maiden...and part of that is the energy of the crowd. India's crowd gives me chill every time I watch this video!
Dude! Rime of the ancient mariner it's gonna stick in your head for some weeks, for real hahhahahahahaa Keep up the cool reactions, your channel rocks! Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷 xD
Let me tell you, my man...I saw them live in 2016 and 2017, fulfilling a 30 year desire, and they still have just as much on-stage energy as you see here in this video.
Never seen this live vid but man, do those folks get into it! Damn they were jammed up in there! That's how it was when I saw them in 83 though, no one needed a seat once the show started- high energy all the time.
What's funny is you said you've been on this Maiden trip for a week, well you will be on it for life now, lol. The next step in exploring Maiden is EDDIE. Eddie is the mascot of Iron Maiden and is on almost every album cover in some form or another. Your journey has just begun my friend. "Up the IRONS!" \m/ \m/
I'm a new subscriber to channel and enjoy watching your reactions to one of my favorite bands of all time. I've been following them since day one seen them numerous times in my 60 years. You need to react to a song by Maiden called The Clansman live in Rio you're really need to watch it live great both ways but much better live.
Probably the only metal band that doesn't take themselves seriously, but are true professionals. Brilliant musicians. All about pleasing the masses. Up the irons!
I will strongly recommend if you ever have a chance to see them live that you do. There live shows are some of the best i have ever seen and ive been to well over 30 concerts
you are getting a history lesson :) the trooper- the crimean war, run to the hills- american history, aces high-the battle of britain in ww2. aces high is one of my faves. in some shows they have a life sized replica of a british spitfire fighter above their headers :) always great shows by maiden.
I could recommend this song or that song but truly the only recommendation I have is to go see them live next time they are in town you will definitely not regret it.
Well.....two things, You just gained a new subscriber! And... I was actually getting ready to request that you do a lyric breakdown of this song, when the little clickable ( is that a actual word? lol) link to the video for the lyric breakdown popped up on the screen! On to that video next! Welcome to the world of Iron Maiden my friend! As always, Peace and love from Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A!
I'm absolutely loving your enthusiasm for Maiden. I'd really like to see you check out Wicker Man, Dickinson had left the band for a while and that was their first single when he came back. For fans at the time, it was a defining moment in their history
Just saw them in Las Vegas in September on Friday the 13th. Bruce turned 60 this year and none of them show any signs of slowing down. I've made it to at least 1 show on every U.S. tour they have done. Saw them once out of the U.S. in Brazil. 2001 Rock in Rio. They are a MUST SEE LIVE band. ✌
When you watch "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner", watch the live version from Live After Death. You'll be able to hear the lyrics! I look forward to your reaction...you're gonna love it! 💥💯🖤🎶🤘
Great reaction! There are some good documentaries on Maiden out there (Flight 666 is a good one). Turn on captions though because they've got heavy English accents. :) Their band history is pretty amazing and interesting.
Do yourself a favor and pickup the Flight 666 documentary bluray! It's a great watch and is a real eye opener to those who have limited knowledge of the band.
I'm 15 years younger than Bruce, and I couldn't run around and jump around the stage like he does. He's a ball of energy, and although I love the original Dianno albums, Maiden would not be where they are today if not for Bruce's drive, focus and energy. He's one of those "one in a million" personalities. Couple that with Harris' song writing, three amazing guitarists and one of the best drummers in rock and roll, it's a recipe for greatness.
Rime of the ancient mariner (live flight 666) is a must , one of the best metal song ever ,the guitars solos, drums , base l vocals ... it just doesn’t get any better than that
Intro is a very famous speech by Winston Churchill. This is the intro to all Maiden concerts followed by Aces High. You should check out Live After Death by Maiden....One of their absolute best.
We shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be; we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender...June 4, 1940; House of Commons,Winston Churchill
Don't know where to start on what to say on all these bands from the 80s because they are all great and very happy to be apart of their experience, all I can say is, the money was worth seeing them all in concert and to live with the memories they left behind is the greatest feeling, check out this band called loudness Japanese band that kicked ass, I still love that band
The energy at a Maiden show is like a closed circuit infinity loop. The more energy the fans give the more Maiden pushes out. This is from a whole documentary. Great Watch, and as always...UP THE IRONS!!!
Dude, there is a whole range of metal and rock bands that are awesome. I think you've done Queensryche, but there is Fates Warning, Disturbed (David Dramen is far beyond most other vocalists), Demon Hunter (whose vocal mix between really harsh vocals and clean vocals is great, Dream Theater, and so many others. It all started with Black Sabbath, the Kinks, Led Zeppelin and a few other bands from the 60s and early 70s. I love all kinds of music, I don't know what you normally listened to but if it's rap and hip hop, I never got unti that because I was never exposed to it, if you know stuff I should listen to I will. God bless you
Sometimes video recordings have bad audio. Sometimes they don't mix the sound correctly or may have video mics in the wrong spot. Definitively listen to album track. As usual Bruce delivers great diction and great pipes. Story of song is pretty cool. Intro is Winston Churchill. All the concerts I went to they opened with this song. Badass!
Iron Maiden puts on the Best Live Show Period. My Wife and I see 15-20 shows a year from all types of music from CHIC to Slayer. IM is hands down the BEST SHOW for your money. You don't even need to like the music.
Dude, you are 100% correct with this. And I am so glad I got my wife into them so I now I know without a doubt we can both go see them live and she will enjoy it.
My favorite maiden song!!! Things you may have missed at first watch: 1) the beginning. The most famous Winston Churchill speech during WW2. 2)the song lyrics are about the heroics of the Royal Air Force Spitfire pilots during the battle of Britain. "Rolling, turning, diving,.... doing it again" 3) the solo was in 2 parts performed by both guitarists. Something they do a lot.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT meh..... sometimes it's the studio version you want, sometimes the live..... nothing you can do if you've never heard the song before...... Maybe try a few songs from their first 2 albums with Paul dianno singing..... Iron maiden and killers. Running free, iron maiden, Transylvania, murders in the rue morgue(from Edgar Allen Poe), women in uniform, and wrathchild are all great songs.... Transylvania has no lyrics.
As some mentioned: the song is about the battle of Britain, which mostly was fought in the skies. It tells all about their drill from when the sirens go of, getting into the air and fighting of the enemy. I believe it is loosely based about stories they heard from RAF pilots. The speech in the beginning is one that Churchill held right after taking office. He took over for Chamberlain who was played for a fool by the Nazis, proclaiming "peace in our time" after signing a peace treaty which the German government broke in a year. Churchill had his past from the military and became naval minister during WWI. He was also considered a war hawk compared to Chamberlain.
Fear of the dark-live in rio!! And for another band again throwin SABATON!! Out there, saw em both live in the last 4 months and easily the best concerts I’ve ever been to! Easily Two of my top bands in the genre of metal!
I honestly believe that if every person on earth was an Iron Maiden fan and shared the experience of a Maiden show together... World peace would be a lock, at least for a long, long moment.
Metal is Universal... It doesn't care about race, religion, or gender.
Bruce actually stands to that on the Boof of Souls Tour. His words, if I recall correctly is: "... This is family. This is not one nation, this is not one race, this is not one religion. It's a history lesson about WWII air warfare.
Yes, live version is a ton of fun nut studio version sounds much better. Vocal harmonies, crisper guitar mix.
Its specifically about the battle of britain.

God bless you
You need to get their concert DVDS for Live After Death, Rock in Rio, Flight 666, Death on the Road. They are spectacular.
Been listening to maiden since 1979 should try out where the wild winds blow. Fantastic song.
Rime of the Ancient Mariner is everything that Maiden was, is and will be. It just has everything!
You need to see Iron Maiden in concert...…..UP THE IRONS...
If you ever get a chance to see powerslave live in 85 that would show how ahead of there time they were and still are to this day
They have the best true studio sound of anyone
TNT You are awesome!!
I had the same giddy laughter when I heard Maiden for the first time in the 80s. Reaction vid legit...confirmed.
My favorite maiden song!!!
Things you may have missed at first watch:
1) the beginning. The most famous Winston Churchill speech during WW2.
2)the song lyrics are about the heroics of the Royal Air Force Spitfire pilots during the battle of Britain. "Rolling, turning, diving,.... doing it again"
3) the solo was in 2 parts performed by both guitarists. Something they do a lot.
I shouldve watched the studio version first.
My favorite versions of this song are of course the original album version and from their live after death performance in Long Beach
This dude is kewl as f... and his laugh would be awesome as like a over dub in a song or 2 ...its epic.. Stay kewl my Dude.. your friend.. jade payne
Fear of the Dark live in Rio
Brother you should listen to in this moment , either the song ashes and next life. Should be right up your alley and the singer has brutal ability
Fear of the dark-live in rio!!
And for another band again throwin SABATON!! Out there, saw em both live in the last 4 months and easily the best concerts I’ve ever been to!
Easily Two of my top bands in the genre of metal!
No spitfire?! When i saw em a couple of months ago, they had a full-sized spitfire hovering over the stage.
Yep, I saw them in Oakland, CA a couple of months ago. Amazing show!
Yeah... I flew from New Delhi, India to Houston, Texas to catch their show and it was like looking at the face of God...
You'd love the docu-film flight 666. It's sooooo good.
there best intro is from the song ''The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner',the guitars are epic and gave me goosebumps everytime i here it
I honestly believe that if every person on earth was an Iron Maiden fan and shared the experience of a Maiden show together... World peace would be a lock, at least for a long, long moment.
The last time I saw Maiden in Philly, during Aces High, they had a giant Spitfire plane fly out over the stage. It was incredible.
