    Watched, your video reminded me of my younger, self and why i changed from landscaping to garden maintenance, The time an effort you out into landscaping, ie collecting materials, wear and tear , you would literally want 2k contingencys and people wont pay that , so your effectively your own slave , garden maintenance your in and out , with your body still in contact , and less stress ,

      I'm really not trying to be funny like you can see I'm really positive, but if I'm hot, I'm going topless. If you go to a public area on any hot day. You're probably gonna see some lad topless. Personally don’t agree with how you handled yourself there bud! You might not like the workers but never say it like the in front of people! Can really damage someone. And you have the right to wear what you want it’s your company! But some advice from an outside looking in. I personally think it looks very unprofessional taking your shirt off mate. And it’s feb bud it’s not exactly the med! Just saying, like I said you have the right to wear what you like but from someone who’s had people work at there house you wanna come across as professional as you can and the top of for me is a big no no! Look like the local travellers have showed up lol!

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  6 месяцев назад

      I've had this comment before. And I'll say it again. Unfortunately, I'm not gonna water down my personality too much in the name of professionalism at the end of the day, personality is what makes us all different. In terms of saying what I did in front of the boys. They're my close mates and I was giving them a bit at work.I literally explained the whole situation to the boys told them it wasn't their fault and even said in the video. It was completely my fault.
      The T-shirt. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one mate 👍. I personally think the way I am within business shows a hundred percent authenticity. Not one person is gonna look at me and think oh, He's putting on a professional front. I am what I am. I know my worth. I have sky-high expectations. And if a customer isn't happy with my service. Or isn't happy with my price. Then there's plenty of other people out there to do the job. If having my T-shirt off or having high standard mean I lose work so be it.

    Next time mush you could have dug the whole lot out with that machine in a day. Next time start from the back and dig your way out the garden then your done with a digger and not making a mess of the garden. A tracked dumper would have been way easier and I would have saved you another day for a bricklayer to fix the wall 🤣 consider a tracked dumpers £160 a week they do save time. And time is money.

      Personally I too would have used a tracked barrow as per other comments. Track the digger down over the patio and scrape the first lot of turf up and use it to form a ramp for the dumper / power barrow.
      A couple more sheets of ply cut in half and just leap frog them in front of the machines when you move them.
      In terms of your levels, a laser level makes light work of getting your dig out and falls correct. I have a spectra one plus a mag mount that I can use on a machine.
      Wise decision subing the brickwork , you can teach yourself on a smaller job and engineering bricks are very easy to smear.

    Pinch bar and pick will make groundwork a heck of alot easier. A ground scan will cost you alot in the short term but save you a fortune in the long term with preventing damage to services. A Lazer level and finder will cost under a grand but save you a bunch of money when you see it cut down your labour cost. Biggest tip I can give you based on my experiences over the years is if you can afford the right tool for the job, just take the dive and get it. It will save you time and money in the long run. The amount of extra days labour I spent when starting out due to trying to make do with what I had, kept me fit though😂 All the best bud👍

    Mate landscaping is no joke, its a very slow process but worth it all in the end!
    I know exactly how you feel with the labourers, yah my guys are great for general labouring but that's probably where it stops... Any skilled work ill either try and do it myself (for the experience) or bring in someone who knows what they're doing... Its an absolute pain in the *cough* sometimes when you have to redo everything that someone else has done because its not up to standard. Mate I could rant about this all day because ots cost me endless tome and money previously by not having the right team in place, just dont let it ruin your reputation. At the end of the day, its your business at stake so sometimes you have to make hard decisions and take people off the job if they're not up to standard!

    Its a tough job mate, I shy away from landscaping because its just too much, nice earner, but pay too much on the stress tax, having Sam work with me is a godsend, its hard, but not as hard as managing other workers,. its all a learning curve, my biggest job was about the same as yours, I did it all by hand and on my own, luckily the customer project managed it was tough, I really tip my hat to you, I wish everyone in your age group had the same mindset as you.

      So do I, it would make finding workers so much easier 🤣. But im not bothered The less of my generation out working. The more money for me is the way I look at it... At the end of the day, someone's earning the money so aint more generation it's gonna be me. Ahah
      But I'm absolutely love in the landscape inside of things and from my experience. The money is in the ground...

    Hi there just wanted to say it’s not your fault they broke the slab wouldn’t kick yourself for it but they needed to be more careful with how they work and be more aware of their surroundings… I’ve worked with a guy who had no experience but wasn’t a cocky lad and done what he could without trying to show off

      @HDGardenCare  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, mate. That's definitely the attitude the lads I need. I've got a new lad working with me now. And he actually seems a solid lad. I've got him on 1 day a week with me.

      Sorry commented half way through the video, loose aggregates is the way to go Same with like removing waste out the fronts for a grab lorry to lift might be cheaper too… also would recommend a pointy shovel that’s handy for digging into hardcore that are in bags

      Believe me, I actually did ring the grab company to come and empty that first 6 yd skip. They wanted twice what the skips cost me. Whith the connections I have at the skip yard, I think I'll keep using skips.

      Yeah mate. You're totally right, and it's what I tried to do? However, it's frustrating and when it is someone else is mistaken, Burns a whole in your pocket.

    You live and learn, that's how you get better. But every job is different so not all the same applies. Managing people and the budget is a bugger. Good work out for the arms shoveling out of bulk bags ain't it ,few aches later,ATB 👍

      You are bang on my arms are killing. The boxing session finished me off yesterday. i'm not gonna lie it's put me out of action today I've not felt this knackered in a while. It's been a day of rest and editing for me, hence the early upload 😅.

    Did you pay the lads you sent home a full days wage?

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  3 месяца назад

      No mate, if you work half a day, you get half days pay, simple. I buy the boy lunch and refreshments throughout the day 9 time out of 10 tho. I do try to treat my boys right.

    Hiya mate! We do lots of landscape projects and it takes time to build a team! I had a question I’ve seen in the comments that you’re putting gravel down?!! As someone that’s in the trade why you putting such a heavy base of type one down for a gravel path? You could have just got away with a light sprinkle mate.

      I've been taught to use at least a 75mm bed no matter what's going on it. Thanks for the comment.

      No slabs are going in, mate. It is a straight type one base and a self building gravle path.

    Great job what do you guys charge for a job like this in the uk ? Could you do a job on price break down and labour cost etc 😊

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  6 месяцев назад +1

      I would probably not do a cost. Breakdown on a job this large. Just because the price a company give is very subjective to that company.
