I just binged THE LAST RESORT this past weekend and once again it hit me how very cruel lung cancer and all cancer is. Rest in Power dear ANDRE BRAUGHER, my deep condolences to your Family.
@@Wabsirba #1: *Pissed Off* Morgan Freeman (Seen it Before), #2: Ian Mckellen (Because the OG magneto had a voice to match his ruthlessness), #3: Mark Hamill (Because the Joker "Despite his shit politics* has always been the voice of "No Fks Given")... There's 3 (as requested), not to downplay this actor who really nailed that "Fk you" monolog, but there ARE people who can do the same.
Yeah, me, too... every month now and then... but I'm quite in surprise each time I revisit this speech, I notice it got so much less viewing count that I think it would has... in my mind this series is great and at least this speech got million views but very unexpected it only get 11.900... a very low number for this kind of quality.
This was an outstanding show that was intentionally crippled and then finally sunk. It had a message that certain interests did not want getting out and put into the brains of the general public.
Yep the premise is perfect. A rouge U.S government set on using nukes to fight proxy wars. No wonder it got pulled because the Government might actually do it one day if the power structure decides its time to.
I'm fondly remembering this show. What a great Captain! And Lt. Grace proved herself a true leader! So did the brave woman soldier who starred in G.I. Jane.
I agree with you on believability, but I thought one of the strengths of this speech was that Captain Chaplin delivered it so flatly, so stoically (if not -completely- emotionlessly; you can tell he means every word he says, so your point on passion also rings true)-- the man is talking about *incinerating the U.S. and anyone who dares cross him and his crew with nuclear fire* and he -never raises his voice once-. That, to me, was a big plus in its effectiveness.
I had a shudder down my spine when he said: We have 17 more nucliair missles aboard and we will not hesitate (and this is the part that gets me :D) to unleash fire hell down apon you I give you my words... it sounds so epic imo :P
If all American soldiers and military was like him we would have less war's, less massacre of innocents, less fear and more trust. If the world was like that there would be no need to have arms. That as noble as V for Vendeta and makes my skin crawl .
A great story with huge potential that unfortunately was canceled. Hopefully someone will revive it and bring it back. If not then I might consider doing it myself.
It's awful that they killed the show halfway through the first season. I think they did a great job of tying it up rather than just leaving it hanging. But I'd have rather let them continue, they were doing a great job.
Interesting how this came in the results while searching for clips of the House MD episode "Last Resort", considering that the actor playing the Captain here also played House's psychiatrist.
Another show cancelled before it got time to get a hold of a larger fan base. This is why I hate network tv… they just can’t stick it out like streaming services can.
I think it's two different artistic choices. I think what you suggest is an awesome option, but what they picked was fine as well. The Scott Speedman comment of "just crazy enough" was important and revealing. So was the statement that "maybe this is home now" which made Speedman and the Lt. look at one another and wonder just how truly crazy Chaplin is.
I feel like I sould point out that this is a TV SHOW and it didn't actually happen. it's a plot. plus, american tv is influence by its history. that's why you still see the bad guys as russians in espionage movies. They weren't going to make a show about the US attacking Canada because the audience wouldn't be able to relate. I might be naive, but I don't think the movie industry is taking of the whole situation as personally as you when they do their business
In reality, a B2 stealth bomber or even an F22 stealth fighter can easily slip through almost any Radar defense systems and unleash a fire storm on a parked and unsuspecting Sub with devastating precision. I doubt that even the most advanced nuclear attack sub in the US Naval arsenal that has gone rogue can hold the US government hostage in the manner in which it is depicted on this show. Great speech though, gotta love Andre Brauer on this one.
@@hunterbear2421 if they know where its at, its done. 17 missiles is like 70 heads decoys and mid airs included, prolly quite easy to intercept anyways although it has been never tested
@@valkoroska2369 the US doesn't have that many missile interceptors actively deployed around its borders right now. I think we have 3-4 in Alaska, and maybe 1-2 in Hawaii. Thats it. Thaad is extremely costly. Even If just half of the missiles hit targets in the mainland it would be absolutely devastating to a modern day US.
about what you said on the topic of Canada: you're just repeating what I meant by"influenced by history" : that historically, Canada has always been more of an ally than an enemy and blah blah blah. And yeah, now the American government is the villain in a lot of movies because people feel watched and know how powerful the country is. But a lot of villains are also foreigners, mostly in ESPIONNAGE MOVIES. Which is what I said. I don't get why you're being like this I didn't start a debate here.
I am dying many times over to know what song is playing in the background. It's among my all time favorite background scores AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS. D:
Great speech, just a pity they got technicalities wrong, such as its armament, and some terminologies. SLBM, not ICBM. 23 remaining SLBMs, each with between 8 and 12 475kt MIRVs, not 17 singular warheads
none said we hate you, in fact none hates you, they are just jealous of what you have, and just like a kids they would do anything immoral to get it, the point is: those who lead don't have parents that would tell them that it is wrong/bad D:
They didn't make it about the US attacking Canada because it's more far fetched than the US attacking an Islamic nation, and because Canada is considered an ally, and also located geographically right next to the US. As for bad guys in movies... last I checked the American government was the villain not only in Hollywood movies, but also in TV shows such as The X Files, and, um... let's see... oh, yes, on LAST RESORT
Wow .... i can see why the show got cancel .... there are way too much corruption that dont want this message got out. Instead they prefer you all fighting for the proper pronoun.

Andre went from this serious role to the comedic genius in Brooklyn Nine-Nine...what an actor he was. Love this scene.
So sad to hear of his passing today.... A great actor...
There is no other actor, not one, that could deliver this speech with such passion, such believability, as Andre Braugher does in this scene.

is there a video of the part where the nuke goes off to? i want to see that again but i cant find it

Great show. But you cut the best part of the speech - "You've been warned".
This series was amazing, and I hate NBC for cancelling it!! Yet, The Last Ship was allowed four seasons, and it was not as good!
