Rest in peace Robbie ❤
He made me laugh when the air raid siren went off😆. An utterly brilliant man , I loved him ,gods in for a fun time with him
"It's not a train, it's a locomotive! You must never ever call it a train!" RIP Robbie Coltrane.
This series, without hesitation, is the best of its kind. It will never be bettered for reasons of the presenter (his humour and who gets his hands dirty), the subject matter and personalities he converses with. Wonderful viewing. RIP Robbie.
Three things about this clip. A: Lovely old bits of kit like this are still running. B: The skills to mend and refurbish them to keep them going are still around and C: A host willing to get his hands greasy and give the lads a hand!. Onya Robbie.
Absolute legend, Robbie C's a diamond geezer! ❤️😎
"You must never call it a train or guys in anoraks will beat you to death on the spot."
LOL, you're not wrong
Excellent programme and so well presented by Robbie Coltrane with great humour thrown in and such iconic scenery at the end with the Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River
R.I.P Robbie
Thanks Robbie mate, I am a steam tragic, steam engines, steam shovels, steam rollers, steam ships, steam locos, anything that has that instantly recognisable smell of steam! Goodbye my friend, RIP! 👍

Hargid introducting is to steam locomotives? 🚂 How amazing, our dear game keeper as well as our professor of Hogwarts Nature Subject sure knows everything, even when it comes to Muggle stuff.😃👍🏼
Rest In Peace, Hargid. Thankx for bringing us happiness and joy to our life.🙏🏼😇💖
one thing these locomotives have over every other engine covered in this series..yes even the V8..these things have the WOW factor. They are simply wonderous to behold!!And thanks for posting
Never seen these before. Brilliant filming and editing and convincing engineering by Robbie. Thanks
Right at the end, "I'm not really Jeremy Clarkson, I was just pretending." 🤣
He'll be missed around here.
Should have entitled this "Robbie Coltrane Fixing Garratts" !
Don't you just love Robbie.R.I.P.
You just know his getting in there and wielding the big spanners and hammers was his own idea and not some producer's. I bet that's his own boiler suit too. Great man, much missed.
He was a good man
Mind you the supercharged Mercedes racers from the 30s are amazing too
Nice sounding Carters siren at 6:15.
Had me worried for a bit.
What is the music from 8:17?
It's driving me crazy, can't find the name of it anywhere!!!
2:15
Now that's foreshadowing.....
Did the fireman never watch "Little And Often"? The loco beltched black smoke all of the time not the light grey smoke of an efficient burn.
Mobile pressure vessel. Dangerous
9:36 Today I learned something new you can do with a hammer
good night, sleep tight jolly man
Too bad he never got to see a Big Boy return to the rails.
I confess...I laughed at Wankey
I have learnt so so much its just un true but why 3 and not 4 cylinders or was this due to the fourth not having enought steam excuse the pun ????? R.I.P. Mr Coltrane !! By looks of this we will miss you beyound beleif !!!!!!!!!
Quadruple expansion engines were built but not in great number. You’d have to increase the pressure into the high pressure cylinder to account for getting sufficient pressure for the low pressure. As said in part 1, the low pressure cylinder was only on 8 psi (and even then most of the effective work will be taken from the exhaust with the vacuum in the condenser) so another cylinder and it would be more effort on the engine than the resultant power out of the extra cylinder.
