Note: no need to remove the intake manifold. Remove only the four the throttle body and radiator fan. *Make sure you use the same bolt for the center Y plastix tube, the one held by one bolt to the front of the water pump. If using a plastic water pump and the bolt is too long it will pull out the brass thread that is pressed in because the bolt will hit the end of the housing and as you screw will pull the brass. Use high quality gaskets, align the pins to the water pump, dont force it in or will crack the housing. I have replaced two water pumps, dont remove the manifold, TB and radiator fan, and use plenty of shop lights, headband. When cleaning, dont use high strength chemicals, it will sit on top of the gasket rubber and swell it up rendering it useless. It is a good reference video, good job in editing!
A few decades ago, 5 or 6, I worked on my own vehicles. Changing a water pump involved four bolts on the fan, five or six bolts on the pump and two hose clamps. Twenty minutes later I was back on the road. You lost me when you opened the hood. Keep up the great videos
Nice video, Aaron. i can't walk and talk, let alone work and talk. I just thought and do it with one hand behind your back, or in your case with one hand on your camera.
Older VW Tiguan 2.0TDI are notorious for oilpump failure to do the chain coming loose. The water pump replacement on these new cars is a nightmare. Dose not matter is it VW or BMW. On this model it is not as notorious at least there is access room. Thanks for making this video, these will come handy later.
I remember the day when you worked on a water pump, you dealt with hoses, clamps, belts etc. if you worked on the electrical system, it was wires. Not both. Oh the day…
I did a water pump last year on a GMC car. I had to remove the whole front of the car to get at the thing. Bumper guard, bumper, rad, condenser, AC compressor, just about pull the motor. I'm too old for that stuff.
Please tell me how you get the screws out of the sensor plate 😭 I have stripped them and they’re in there good. I haven’t taken the water pump out though. I was just changing the sensor and it is a tight fit. Please help!
I assume you're referring to a Torx head screw that is stripped. Sometimes you can get lucky and a flat bladed screwdriver of the right with will work. Oftentimes I will give it a light wrap with a hammer once I get it fit into the screw head. That can help break it loose but it also seats the screwdriver. It can be tricky to get out the stripped screws and often it doesn't work at all. I hope this helps. Without seeing it it's hard to say. 👍

Very informative teaching video.

You are so lucky , not everyone can have a chance to do this job .

Graf are a good aftermarket maker here in Europe,,,They also make OEM parts for many auto makers,,,
I was very impressed with the quality of the graf water pump. It fit perfectly.

Not a mechanic! I can smell that one clear out here in California. 😂
Hahaha! I still wouldn't consider myself a mechanic. The weird thing is I do oddly enjoy it. Thank you so much Tom! 😊
Thanks for showing me why I should avoid buying a volkswagon.
My pleasure, 😂.
@@lifeafterourloss I lack your skill, I wouldn't have enough swear words.
@Thomas-bv9mn I use them sometimes. The car just thinks I'm speaking German, 😂
Eine Plastikwasserpumpe? Wer hat diesen Müll entworfen? 😊
@mmm365 🤣😂🤣 My wife is wondering what I'm laughing at.

Sometimes it feels like we went a bit backwards with technology.
vw what hope that thing gets 50 miles per gallon
It's not bad.
@@lifeafterourloss watch merlin old school garage and he put a vw together from a kit which made it into a pickup

To clarify, I took the throttle body off to get to it..

I'm guessing you're talking about the screws going into the plastic? Sadly a lot of these parts are made to throw away and replace completely.
