It's TRUE. I've gotten their Christmas bucket before. Comes with a hand written card, 12 peice chicken, a potatoe dish, a dessert, and a collectable plate
@@tayoonii-sama5800 I have no clue what you just tried to say. And I agree that it technically started its own Tradition, and if people enjoy it then it's not harming anyone. It's no different than having turkey or ham. Some people probably do have KFC for Christmas.
No one truly knows what Santa looks like, there’s many variations of him throughout different cultures. As for the KFC, for some people it very well could be their tradition. Not everyone has the same traditions, we live in a very diverse world. Anyways, if you celebrate, I wish you a very merry Christmas. ^^
I can't wait for the classic Japanese superstition in 100 years: "They say if you get 3 wings of the same shape from KFC on Christmas, it brings good fortune and wards off the evil spirits if you eat them in the correct order"
I think it’s cool that Japanese people are interested in American culture the same way we are with there culture. If they came here, they would be really disappointed though lol
I visited Japan 3 years ago during Christmas. The KFC there was actually relatively empty but damn it was waaayyy better than the ones we have at home.
According to KFC Japan, the actual reason was that one of the team members in 1974 overheard a foreign customer complaining about not being able to get a turkey for Christmas and he would have to make do with fried chicken. The company got inspired to start the first "Kentucky For Christmas" campaign and now it's a tradition. What you said is still one of the plausible theories though. Also goddamn you gotta reserve it in October for a bucket?
We used to get KFC for Christmas. We're Mexican Californians, but there was a KFC across from our church and it was convenient to get a bucket after early Christmas mass.
That really makes me wonder if there’s some reverse weeb who’s really into American stuff and mixes english words into his dialogue with a cowboy accent.
We had KFC for Christmas and I immediately remembered how Japan celebrates theirs lol! Their bucket is filled with so many treats I wanna try it someday 😭
It is! It's common for couples to celebrate Christmas together🌲⛄🌲 (marketing scheme but still, so cute!). People buy KFC chicken and cake to celebrate with their significant other, have singles parties and others with their family. They have festive Christmas decorations too! 💖👍
i’m from KY and colonel sanders actually brings goodluck! like during the hurricane last year everything in my friends town was destroyed, except for the kfc which was perfectly untouched. it’s pretty neat
This is true and I've known it for a while now! My mum told me about this and she actually personally experienced it because she lived in South Korea for over a month and taught English there. She said she had KFC for Christmas!
To be fair i think the traditional thing is any takeaway on Christmas Eve because nobody wants to cook and have to wash up the day before the Christmas dinner meal
This reminds me of the pickle in the tree tradition 😂 My kids knew from the beginning the pickle wasn't something that was traditional in Germany but we just love the quirkiness of it. It's also hilarious when others come to our home for Christmas and we shout "FIND THE PICKLE!!" randomly and the kids bolt to the tree 🤣🤣
I like these kind of traditions, the tradition in my family is eating penguin waffles for breakfast with honeycomb butter, it's what I look forward to every year
my history teacher told me this, and i was amazed. he’s in japan right now for christmas, as his wife lives there, and i really hope he took a picture with “santa”. ;)
I learned about this in 6th grade. I was doing a research project on traditions in 3 different countries, and it was just right there on my computer screen.
Thanks for the info - didn't realise that. In the UK at Christmas time I'm not aware of any KFC related traditions. Other than adding a few snowflakes / Xmas decs to their theme the Christmas Gravy Burger is about as 'Christmas' as KFC goes.
Actually i watched worldofxtra’s video and this topic was also opened in his video. His teacher explained that its basically because when japanese people think of americans it’s basically turkey so like where would you get turkey in japan? Well no since it’s literally huge so they just go to kfc idk if i explained this right but this is def what I understood in his video.
I’m from Japan but now live in the U.S. this is true, but we never ate KFC. We just had some rotisserie chicken for dinner, but he is not lying. We had it one year but we were in line for about an hour and a half and it was not worth the wait just for some chicken.
There is also a story that three western men couldn't find any turkey for their Christmas feast, so they turned to the Colonel's chicken as the next best thing. Execs heard of it and opened a 'Kentucky for Christmas' marketing campaign.
Well my family being the southern and northren blend we are do have chicken and we also have ham, green beans, Sweet taters and Peanut butter fudge and some other optional dessert. So in some cases yea fried chicken could be served :)
I'm from Texas so we always have tamales along with the traditional Christmas dinner, but I'd never in a million years consider KFC on Christmas. My family has a tradition of eating Chinese food on New Year's though. We must make 300 egg rolls every year.
Actually Andy, the whole reason why this whole thing exists is because back in the 70s, some foreigners were looking for a Christmas turkey in Japan, but couldn’t So they ate KFC And the business people took notes and here we are today But this video is great :)
Actually he told the Japanese that instead of the traditional chicken/turkey Americans eat on Thanksgiving, they could substitute it for KFC instead. He called it a “Kentucky Christmas”.

Japanese people and American people are correlated in a way. Japanese people are curious about our culture as you can see that they have a tradition of eating KFC during Christmas. I mean, when I spent time with my family in the Philippines for Christmas, we always got some Jollibee alongside all the other dishes for the kids, so this doesn’t sound too bad.

Tradition often starts from the simplest of things, even half-truths, but eventually all grow into something much more.
imagine someone doing that now though, like “its a tradition in japan, we should do it too” until every single country has this as a tradition
I learned about this in 6th grade. I was doing a research project on traditions in 3 different countries, and it was just right there on my computer screen.

Also Christmas in Japan is basically valentine's day where couples go to love hotels instead of the usual Christmas celebration
I learned about this at school.
We do that in new Zealand too and Its called Kentucky fried Christmas for a reason
Actually my mom in Japanese and we go a lot. It is mostly younger people. Most older people don't eat kfc for Christmas
i already like this tradition 😂
Fun fact kfc in japan on Christmas stands for Kentucky for Christmas
People in Japan 1960: Ya sure about that?
“Kentucky Chrismas!” -japanese commercials
I wonder if Japanese tourists go to the States during Christmas and think, "Why is nobody eating KFC? They're all just drinking Sprite Cranberry's."
I'm Japanese and have family in Japan and this is 100% true
We have same like this in lebanon and I don’t know why but without the Christmas box
Yes, it also sorta hinges on the “thanks giving” component but uses KFC. KFC had a great marketing scheme during the time in Japan
I Got this to learn in my Home work Lol
If this was a tradition globally
KFC would see a *really big spike* in December
crazy how some specific brands can make and event or holiday to their sales...
(like 11/11 Pocky/Pepero day)
They even make cakes in some stores aswell
If you are seeing this i want you to have a wonderful christmas 🎄
At this point it’s a Japanese tradition in its own right
Some people usually eat turkey in America, I personally eat cooked chicken on christmas
I learned that in 4 grade we were learning abou christmas in other states and we got japan so thats were i learned it from

I mean, when I spent time with my family in the Philippines for Christmas, we always got some Jollibee alongside all the other dishes for the kids, so this doesn’t sound too bad.
Yea the line for KFC in Japan was so long in Japan we could never get any lol
My cat says: tell me a story about something in history no body seems to remember
In the Philippines every holiday
We eat or take out in our version of McDonald's called "Jollibee"
OMG 😆 that’s hilarious! Learned something new.
