    The use of electronic music with Magick is highly powerful & overlooked. Very true.

    I love your idea of electronic samples as sigil-like. Tibetan singing bowls are absolutely sigil-like for me, as is the orchestral loop in Bittersweet Symphony. I'd never recognized them as such, but it makes so much sense! It's so crazy; I've been performing so many of the magickal techniques that you speak of without consciously knowing it, and it's so interesting to hear you identify them within the pagan tradition. Impressed as ever : )

    Love this! During my 30th birthday, I used the symbol given to me by my main Guide and empowered it as my sigil. For me, right now, there's one in particular. And it's like you said toward the very beginning, it's like a stamp or seal of approval. My mark, I've marked this, etc. I use it in combination with my words of power, like you mentioned. It's essentially my sign off. And the words/thoughts don't have to be written. It's a cool way for me to be able to just think up an intention and then discreetly just write my sigil and no one knows what I'm actually doing but me. Others might think I'm just doodling.

    awesome stuff. i like your thoughts on all this because it allows me to think outside of the box rather than being restrained to the methods I've read in books. It makes me feel more comfortable making/activating/working with sigils in a way that is more sentimental and suited for me specifically than just writing the desire and knocking out letters. thank youuuu. i look forward to seeing more videos

    This was such an excellent intro do sigils. I've just started working with them and have learned to be ready to take notes whenever your videos show up on my feed! The sigilization process doesn't seem to connect with me, but there are so many ways to create one that I prefer meditating and playing around with them until one really clicks and then I know I am set! Thank you for this! Also I often sign my IG or FB comments with a green heart, depicting my love for nature
    and that I am a greenwitch. I wonder if, in a way, emoticons and symbols like that are almost becoming modern sigils? xx

    This video opened up a whole new avenue of thinking for me. I am reconnecting with my love for the magic of sensory things (images, smells, sounds, etc.) after a long time of only allowing myself to enjoy certain kinds of imagery that I considered to be safe and orthodox. I don't know if that makes sense but let's just say that I had all these rules about what I could do artistically and what I could enjoy for entertainment and personal enrichment because I believed that the dark imagery I do enjoy was unhealthy for me. Watching this video inspired my overly-caffeinated brain to go out there and start making some shit and to be even more brave about the art I want to make. Thank you so much.

    Lovely.
    Btw, what you referred to as musical sigilization was actually a tried and true practice for centuries in the western gregorian chant tradition. Since the earliest written sources we see these little melodic cells being used as the basis for all compositions (which were more a question of oral hidden traditions rather than actual written down composition as we think nowadays).
    The process was called centonization, using the most basic melodic elements which traveled and mingled creating ever more complex songs. A truly mystical and magicKal musical tradition... pity we have almost lost it completely.
    Anyway this was thought provoking video, thank you for that. :)
    Light and love (and socialism!)

    wow you really opened my eyes to a new experience, I always wanted to look at things with this perspective but never knew how to grasp it! I been studying the cult of magic for a good while but just can get a true meaning on it or understand the whole if it, but you have really made it to where I can truly appreciate it and have fun with it. I have watched many videos with "maickal people" if you will and it was like watching grass grow, so yes I have struggled with magic for a long time wondering when am I going to get it, you have made it real easy for me to understand, so thank you kelly-ann!

    Hell yeah! This was great to watch, really want to dive into this subject now. It wasn't something I was fully in comprehension of, so thanks for the brilliant intro.
    Sigil wise when it comes to smell/scent. I had no knowledge of sigils but for years I've had a bit of a tradition with any acting jobs. I like to find and build a layer of scent/perfume for a character using different oils or Lush perfumes and make it part of my 'becoming' a character I'm about to play. After a long run especially it becomes a gateway into a character that is so powerful to me, even more so then just putting on a costume. It feels very relevant to sigil work. xx

    interesting your mention of the "cut-up" method - I recall seeing an interview with David Bowie, decades ago, on television. He described his songwriting technique (at that moment) and he mentioned he'd cut up random words from newspapers etc and move the words around on the floor and the result would be the lyrics or at least the start of lyrics for a song.

  • @SkogenWhisper

    I love commenting on your videos on chaos and sigil magick. I like this idea that sigils are fed, over time they are beefed up. Maybe an oversimple analogy is like the Christian Cross, and how for many people just seeing it can induce immense feelings of love, forgiveness.. but sigils feel a lot more personal, as you say, they are very secret and very sacred to the magician. I love the analogy of a rider carrying a message that is sealed away by the sigil. The idea that our intention or message is being carried securely into the universe or specific receiver within the sigil.

    This whole thing about sigils being sound, I think even movements as well can become sigils. Which also makes me think about performance art, it's so ritualistic, often it involves repetitive actions and a sense of being transported into a different space. And there is definitely a sensation, at least for me, of this performative element when I am doing anything that involves a magickal working, whether it's reading tarot, or casting a spell. Hmm.. you've given me a lot to ponder and I think I'll need to VR to this eventually.

    +Kelly-Ann Maddox ... I would like to chime in on your question about whether or not Sigils have power before they're activated or not. --------
    A couple of decades or so ago, i created a Bindrune (a combination of Runes to create one Sigil) necklace for travel protection for a friend. I was brand spanking new to Runes & Witchcraft, so i had no preconceived ideas about it. Didn't even know if it was real.. it was just for a gift. BUT... as i was painting the Bindrune onto the piece of stone, i could feel energy start to build up and flow down through my body, then down arms and into the Bindrune i was painting. (i'm rather sensitive to energy, i found out later). It was totally freaky, yet extremely cool! No activation was needed (nor did i even know about activation at that time), because i KNEW the intended energy was in it already once it was finished. Nowadays though, i think i would activate it anyway, just to seal the deal. -------
    This is a wonderful introduction.. one of the best i've found over the years. Thank you! I look forward to your next installations!....

    no, i'm not into being told how to do things, either. i will smile nicely, do my own research, or just from intuition, & quietly do what i want to, mostly. sometimes, in the days when we'd 'write letters', i'd get sick of language. even that canfeel so stifling to me. so i'd just create crazy-artsy hieroglyphic's of my own. then sign my name. they'd know i was thinking about them, but off in Lianaland, i guess... great vid... you've inspired me from past vids, to work more with art & sigil creation that speaks to me, rather than rigid instructions on how to do them...i'm loving the results...thanx & tfs BB :)

    Yay! Fantastic video. I use Sigil Magick quite often. It's the form of magick that comes to natural to me. It's fun to experiment with it. I loved hearing about different ways you can make sigils. I never thought of using sound as a part a sigil. I love neologisms. Especially as a conlanger- I love creating my own languages for fictional stories I write. So maybe I will use words from one of those conlanguages in a sigil. Since I am the only one who knows them.

  • @rachael2180
    @rachael2180 8 лет назад

    I think that a sigil is activated during its creation. I mean, you're focusing on what you're creating it for, what its purpose is & what result you want to achieve. Boom! If you're just doodling & then the end result looks kind of witchy & fantastic...then maybe boom lite. Creation energy is pretty potent. I don't know if a whole activation spell, for me, is necessary. I love the idea about sounds as sigils. I really enjoyed this, thank you.

    • @kelly-annmaddox
      @kelly-annmaddox  8 лет назад

      +Rachael Awesome thoughts - thank you for this input. 'Boom lite' - hehe. True, sometimes you go into a trance when you're in the creation process and that can kind of be an activation of the symbol all on its own..

    Ooooooh, speaking of sample hunting -- there is a song called Brighter Than the Sun (I can't remember the artist) but they sample an old Cold War video about the atomic bomb and it's basically a man saying "There's a bright flash" and "Brighter than the sun . . . " and the entire song gives me CHILLS. Basically I end up replaying stories from The Martian Chronicles in my head -- like the mechanized house going about the day to day, centuries after the inhabitants have died.

    • @Strega_del_Corvo
      @Strega_del_Corvo 8 лет назад

      As for the "traditional" sigil method -- I think it's a great way for those who feel like they aren't creative or as a jumping off point. Much like a creative writing class would use a prompt, or the same in an art class. You don't NEED it, but sometimes having those basic consonants staring you in the face forces you to get the creative juices flowing.

    I'm planning to make a series of Sigils, but each will be connected to a Servitor. As the creater and the one in possession of the physical body, the sigil will always be stronger for me, but I plan on letting others use some of them. After all, an Egregor is stronger than a Servitor.

    I think sigils may be inherently potent based on personal experience. In ritual, I turned the evil eye against myself (and honestly, it didn't mean much to me personally at the time; it was gifted to me from a Turkish lamp vendor), and I felt an incredibly strong repulsion. But was it my belief that the evil eye would do this that made it so? And down the rabbit hole we go...

  • @amitylee9868
    @amitylee9868 8 лет назад

    I think that whether classic sigils contain more or less power depending on how you think of a sigil. I think that the truth varies depending on how you see a sigil. Do you believe a classic sigil is an egregore? Is a sigil a psychic entity or being, in itself? For me, some things would do better being made up, but as far as old, known, classic sigils go... I mean, some things are best done that way. Like, for Air, Water, Earth... If you're thinking about those that they're powerful because there is a consensus and everyone knows the sigil for Air, then why can't that be true for other things?
    I love that quote, and remember you saying it in the servitor video and it tickled me. "What you and you alone know..." I feel like this is true about a lot of things, but not all the things. Some secrets are very, very powerful.
    I love, also, that you made me think about symbology in life, just, walking down the street. To me, logos, and symbols, and certain numbers, and scents are definitely emotive. Some scents, especially... definitely powerful. The different scents I've worn over the course of my life definitely brands a particular chapter in my life I've lived. If I see a Dairy Queen sign, I get really deep down into my inner child and remember going to the DQ after the pool. I can totally feel the soggy towel on my shoulders as I sit on the picnic bench. Big, strong, thick, tall oak trees make me feel like a little girl, too. And that's what it means to me, but for other people, they feel that way about lilac bushes.
    Anyway. I personally think the answer is both. And it is really interesting to think about!
    I'm not very sure if I am talking in a straight line or not. I'm not completely sober ;)

    A woman had a group of children create a sigil. None of them knew what they were drawing or the meaning. Why would someone have children draw these symbols and images? What is the intent? The sigil was very dark looking and made in mid October.

    I have different feelings about the BOY London logo. If there's a way for me to desecrate a nazi symbol, i will do it. I even avoid writing the number 8 twice in a row and avoid things labelled with that number. 14 happens to be the day of my birth so no such luck avoiding that one, but that's pragmatism for you.
    For most of the time I've done this out of purely materialist political reasons, but I have recently started to think about it as a crude form of banishment. Destroying or subverting symbols of what I hate has always given me a small feeling of calm.

    the idea of sigils is so cool to me but every time I make one I'm underwhelmed by what I make and feel it's not... mystical enough or has deep enough meaning

    • @kelly-annmaddox
      @kelly-annmaddox  8 лет назад +4

      +MsTerraStar This is an issue which comes up a lot for people. The thing is, it's usually just a form of self-sabotage. You could be convincing yourself that you need to be reaching for that next plateau of experience which you're convinced that *other* people have when *they* practice sigil magick. The truth is that we're all just human beings trying stuff out and seeing if it works. No theatrics or cool-looking stuff would make the situation more meaningful for you - that's just the ego getting in your way. The moment we get over the desire to have everything *look* and *feel* and *seem* magickal is the moment that we can get on with the business of *making* magick.

    That BOY brand looks like Horus on the sun, an upside Venus or even the cross on a globe used in Catholicism. Also I still love your hair but think more pink with a treatment of equal parts olive oil, mayonnaise and an egg mixed. Let it sit for an hour then shampoo with a great conditioner to make it baby soft. Your hair is so pretty this color I could eat it. Although your dark hair was very Betty Page. 👸🏼👸🏻I'm thinking of dying my foe hawk blonde.👱🏽😈🌟⚡️🌞

      Babes, it's rude to tell someone what to do with their hair. I let the pink wash out of it a bit because I happen to like it like that and my hair happens to be something for me, not for you or anyone else. I treat my hair with oil, vegans don't put egg in their hair. With respect, don't be afraid to stay in your lane when it comes to comments on other people's aesthetic choices. 👌🏻🤓👍🏻

      +Kelly-Ann Maddox point taken. I wasn't trying to be rude even though I came across that way. I only felt comfortable saying it to you the same way I would a friend. I said I love the pink when you changed it since in vids usually there is comment on appearance. I'm sorry for this offense. ✌🏽️😘👸🏼✌🏽🌟⚡️🌞
