Great video: yes, learning comes from doing more than copying and pasting. When you learn to write a new formula, you then have a new tool that can be applied to new problems or combined with other formulas to create something much more powerful.

Well said. Must remind my boys of that. It's all too easy to get ChatGPT to do the work, just as it is to have social media entertain you or distract you from the mundane.

Thank you, Mynda! I've always been skeptical of such technology when it's being heralded as "outstanding" and "world-changing". If people just blindly accept its output as truth, they'll forever be ignorant of the real truth. I really like you stressing that any answer needs to be verified. Such technology has its place but it's not a replacement for LEARNING, something you, again, stressed here. As always, great presentation. Thanks again!

Hi Mynda - great video as usual.
I have used ChatGPT with Excel and Google sheets formulas and it did save some time as it explained some long formulas that others had written and I was able to fix these.
In other cases the formulas did not work.

Thanks for talking about ChatGPT. Admittedly I’ve used it when I can’t remember how to do something you’ve shown in previous videos. I’ve had good success having it troubleshoot errors by pasting a few row and columns of data into the prompt and asking for help. Now I understand why my math teachers were always asking me to show my work. 😂

Amazing video. My own take on chat GPT function is that it is collating data from the questions users are asking, its storing the activities and if it analysing the questions asked and answers given simultaneously. It will improve itself using complex mathematical analysis by applying really advanced algorithms as the time goes by. I can easily compare it the how google has improved over the years
With the growth of internet, the search results have improved massively.

Mynda, good cautionary tale! :) Have you tried the ChatGPT 4 yet and used any plugins to help with all this?
I saw your earlier review about the chatgpt extension or add-on to include with helping to analyze the formulas. Is that still the better way to go? It's also inside Excel and can read the data too, which makes it easier, I think.
Please give your current opinion - if you have had a chance to re-check everything since 5 months ago.

Your video is THE best I have seen. I share your horror. AND, the best and most correct conclusion you came to is: ChatGPT is like a politician, you have to fact check everything. And if that is true, then ChatGPT is useless for the very people who are tempted to use it most: beginners.

ChatGPT can easily make up an essay based on a false premise. It is common to keep getting "Apologies.../Sorry, you are right..." from ChatGPT, even for straight-forward boolean stuff.
I find it quite useful in regex/formula related questions though (When given the criteria and fed with sample input/output). We can get pretty tailored solution without asking it on a forum.

It hasn’t yet given me a formula that has actually worked. I ended up basically doing the hard work for it (although it did understand the formula I gave it in the end, it didn’t suggest it).
It also has no knowledge of the newest dynamic array-related functions (although that’s probably easily solvable).
Personally I find it somewhat more satisfying to solve these sorts of problems myself. I’ll use AI if I’m really stuck, although it looks like it has some way to go to be properly usable on that front.

I asked ChatGPT to tell me about the pros and cons of using VLOOKUP vs XLOOKUP, and it came out with some bizarre stuff.
Initially it said VLOOKUP was more versatile because it can return approximate matches and can look to the left, while XLOOKUP can't.
Then it said VLOOKUP was more efficient because it was a 'two-function solution'. Pushed it on that, and found it somehow thought VLOOKUP was used in conjunction with MATCH!
A bit more subjective admittedly but it also said that VLOOKUP's syntax might be considered more intuitive and easier to understand than XLOOKUP's... closed the chat at that point 😁

    It learns hahah
Does excel have a between function?
Excel does not have a built-in BETWEEN function, but you can use other functions like IF and AND to achieve the same result as the BETWEEN function.
For example, if you want to check if a value is between two other values, you can use the following formula:
    python
    Copy code
    =IF(AND(value>=min, value

Correct my non tech ignorance but this 'knowledge' is based on a giant library searched over time, plus a learning algorithm. On top of that a language interpreter, literally learning the human input and generating a natural language output.
So three major areas where missing or wrong or nefarious data might exist.
All of which coded by flawed and biased humans.
The learning level is like a very gifted but delinquent kid trying to be grownup... That should not be trusted with knives but who we want to think can do brain surgery...
And probably is plagiarising vast swathes of the web without attribution, including maybe your forum experts ...
I.e. it's not a magical oracle but repackaging information we could have found using a search engine, albeit a lot slower.
And not sure it isn't also leveraging the search terms used along with any corrections you make... So who is helping who here??

ChatGPT can be useful for ideas (to get past writer's block), but is bad for answers. My biggest concern is I've seen some terribly overcomplicated/cluttered formulas that I'm afraid people are going to throw in their spreadsheets without taking any time to refine them or even understand how they work. Quick to create, but awful to understand or to edit later.
