pls note: the tiny needle attached to the lanyard supports you to stick/put the thin lanyard loop through the tiny whole at the flashlight. so, take care of this and, of course, the O-rings...:))
Amazing in depth review from you on this, I watched others on this item, yours I paused, went and ordered the light, and came back and finished LOL, really thorough review, appreciate it. Barry -- CANADA -- Thanks!!
Good to see you still producing great videos. I remember finding your RUclips channel years ago and I was totally hooked. I've repaid the favour by buying from you a couple of times (currently awaiting a knife too) and I'm in the UK. Keep up the good work.
Great review. Awesome light. Got mine right after it was released, and it's become the ONLY piece of gear that never swaps out of my EDC. 10,000 times the light that my old fenix was. Now I desperately want to get an S30R...
I kept looking for videos for the lanyard attachment point. Thanks for pointing that out. I used a toothpick to start it through and then wrapped it back around itself to close the knot. Big help!
This is great light, highly recommend it. I have the older version s10 in every day use and i love it, very useful! Just couple days ago we were riding atv's with friends at night time and used the s10 as a helmet light because of the small size and the clip. Also the magnet was very useful when looking a broken down old artic cat and also at the side of my car when changing riding gear. And thanks to going gear for great reviews, you are the best!
Now have Ti version and the standard version. Thinking about doing a video on the differences myself, but you are better equipped for it. You need to show how much better the beam is on the Ti version, color temp is easy to show on low with brightly colored subjects. Lets light this candle.
I have the S10R. I love it. It's my EDC. What I go to prevent the light from going on in my pocket accidentally which has happened. I slide the clip over the switch/on button. Works great.
You can also give the cap a quarter turn to disconnect it from power. It locks the light out completely and won't mess up the finish from sliding the clip around.
Absolutely love mine! Although I have to take the battery out at night when I'm not using it because for some reason it drains battery even when the light is off.
I just got mine from you guys yesterday and WOW... this thing is SMALL! It looks larger in your hands and I noticed my package labeling was different (500/25 days/110) and I only had 1 o-ring holding it in place as well as a magnet. I wanted to return it for a bigger model but came to this video instead.
Yes I'm familiar. Are all S1 Batons created equal though? I noticed several videos have S1 batons that start w/ serial number "F" that look a bit thicker than mine which starts with a "G".
Good review, I just got mine and its amazing. I can tell already that it blows away the stream light micro stream, its about double the cost and the stream light is a great light but this is way better. My suggestion to show the size of this light and other lights etc, put it next to a bic lighter.
I was going to ask what is the difference between this one and the S10 or the S10R but I just kept on watching the video and was going to ask about that after watching the video. Thanks for the comparison Marshall! :D
Great review. While I really like the size, output and design of this light, it stills suffers from most of the issues that Olight produces (imo); far too many options! Cut the damn timer-modes. I doubt many would use such feature. To me, it would make more sense to include that option in larger high-end lights. If this light only had low/max modes, it would be great. Make it simple. The interfaces and unnecessary features in Olights are the reason why I've always prefered Fenix.
For size comparison, just put a quarter or a Coke can (or even the 8 ounce Redbull can) beside it for the audience to get a better understanding of the object !!! Cheers !!!
+Glenn Martin I should have mine tomorrow. BTW, I'm glad you said something about the O- Rings. It would have sucked if I wrecked them removing the Light from that packaging. Thanks!
***** interesting - i also found only one o-ring spare - but you are right - it is a spectacular light - you can even wear it on the rim of a cap - great little light
The statistics indicate that there really should be a warning of some sort on the package, front and center and visible without opening the box, that the black rubbers are o-rings. Good thing I watched an extensive review and an unboxing video before receiving mine.
They've changed the packaging. Now instead of two spare o-rings, you get one spare o-ring and a spare magnet. The magnet is glued to the inside of the accessories compartment and magnetically holds the bottom of the light in place, so if you just yank on the light to pull it out, the bottom pops out without ruining the one spare o-ring that is at the top.
Jafafa Hots Yes, it does look that way at first, until you compare them. The second magnet is a donut with a much larger circumference than the pill-shaped one already inside the S1.
Small, powerful, great battery life, and mode memory... what else could you ask for?? Do you think you'd get any better run time out of the Eagletac 16340 750 mah over the olight with 650 mah that you guys include in the bundle? It's only another dollar or so.
And so if you bought just one olight .. does it come with a charger for the cr123. Or a way to charge it period? One thing that kept me buying streamlight. They always provide a charger or a mini usb. Integrated so I can charge them easy. Very good review just you didn't cover charging.
Nobody seems to mention. Will it work on the lithium cr123. Some lights just work on overdrive with the lithium version at 3.7v instead of the 1.5v. More flashlights should come made for lithium rechargables.
+bugman5923 Not necessarily the "right" direction. The reverse is good for bezel-down carry, when you don't want to risk scratching the lens, especially one like the S1's that isn't made of glass.
bugman5923 Going a reasonable and easy step towards preserving the light is not making a talisman out of it, pal. And I'd rather my output not be lowered because the lenses aren't tossing light the right way. I can just turn the clip around if I wanna hat-lamp it anyway. Take care of your gear, and your gear will take care of you. The military learn that, the boy scouts learn that, bushcrafters learn that, there's gotta be truth to it.
+Gunner193 yes. I'm aware of taking care of gear. your talking to an infantry vet....who uses his light more in a week than you probably do in a year. my attitude would be different if a replacement was difficult to get. on my 3rd light this year. 2nd pair of boots and probably 6th hat. use it. when it breaks get another one.
bugman5923 And you're talking to someone who isn't from the First World. Where I live, you practically pay for a light like this with your damn blood: the currency unit is worth a _fourth_ of a dollar (an S1 on regular price is 10% of my joke of a monthly revenue), any international orders take around two months to arrive no matter where they come from, and you get a 60% bite from customs on the declared value written on the package, shipping included. There's no such thing as "it breaks, get another one". Also, wrong probability. I use my S1 at least three hours per night, rigorously so. No idea how much you use yours per week, but I easily top that amount per year, heh.
I love the size and the power but the battery life sucks on mine. I keep hearing that it has good battery life so I wonder if mine is defective. I can stick a fresh battery in it and leave it on a shelf come back the next day and it's dead. I have 2 Olight batteries and 2 fenix, it doesn't matter which battery I use.
+HNL03 I've had that extremely frustrating issue as well, and from all evidence it's due to parasitic drain (excessive standby drain), likely because of a short-circuit from a bad solder. I've contacted Olight's customer service, and after a detailed explanation of my experience, they sent me a brand spanking new one. And from my 1-week-long experience, this one works awesome on the battery life front. I mean, 2 days of frequent on-off use of low and med modes draining only 0.1v? I expected that out of an 18650 like the S2!
+Sam Wittman If the s1 baton had the charging system that the s10r baton II has, I wouldn't be going crazy trying to make my mind. I guess I have to get both as u said lol.
I don't know what is's called in english (I'm from Sweden). But the S10 glows in the dark with a sort of green coating just on the top of the reflector. Does this have something like that as well? I really like that deature for finding my light in the dark when it's just been on. Otherwise do you think it's worth upgrading from the S10?
Thank you for this video and thanks for mentioning the spare O rings, I'd have cut right through them. One question, the light will take a rechargeable CR123 as well as the standard so if use use Olight's USB charging base you could recharge the light with a USB hand crank style recharger, yes?
Will the rechargeable tail cap from a s10r work on the s1? The only thing keeping me from buying this right now is the fact that they don't currently have a built in charging system. Love my s10r btw.
+Going Gear Yes it is very small but not very thin compared to a AAA flashlight. I'm afraid that it pushes against your thigh, when wearing a tight jeans. Am i really wrong? Because it performs like a beast and i'd love to try it. But i need i flashlight that you do not notice while wearing it, otherwise i'd leave it at home.
What's the reason for the battery going in backwards, why on earth did they do that? And why ditch the docking station feature, I really like that on my S10R & S30R.
+Going Gear Thanks, I'll wait until that version comes out. Overall I'm thinking that my S10R gives longer times but I'm not so sure now, I wonder what the figures of the S1 would be when run on a protected RCR123?
I just got mine but the last output memory only last for like 5 munutes. Even if the last mode was the max setting after 5 minutes it will re-set the memory and it will turn on on the low setting. Is mine broken or does the last setting memory only last for 5 minutes?
Hey Going Gear! Just wondering, do your S1 Batons keep moonlight mode in memory? My S1 defaults back into low mode after turning it off and on again from moonlight...
+Matt Rodgers depends... I got 7 of these little lights and two of them are much more to the neutral white color (but not really neutral) but definitely much less cool white... so it really depends on what piece you will get in the package. I own this flashlight..Olive it but I have no idea why they bother with even having 500 lumens on it.... 1.5 min really?...great light but that's worthless they could have just made it 300 max output and gave us another 30 min runtime on max 300 lumens.

Amazing in depth review from you on this, I watched others on this item, yours I paused, went and ordered the light, and came back and finished LOL, really thorough review, appreciate it. Barry -- CANADA -- Thanks!!
Interesting light, I respect their honesty about the high mode run time.
Good tip on the O rings; Sootch didn't mention that...
Good to see you still producing great videos. I remember finding your RUclips channel years ago and I was totally hooked. I've repaid the favour by buying from you a couple of times (currently awaiting a knife too) and I'm in the UK. Keep up the good work.

The metal wire you stripped off the lanyard is there to help you thread it through the end cap when you go to attach it, then you can dispose of it.
+Going Gear You're welcome Marshall. Thanks for posting these vids, they are very helpful, keep up the good work.
Good little tip on the credit cards and torch magnets not going sour when together, Marshall. Thanks a lot, that eases my nerves quite a lot :D
The S1 is so great that it could be both a tool and a luxury accessory. A must have. And I have it.But not the Titanium one ...yet.
with the pocket clip I find it handy to put it on a brim of a "baseball" style cap for hands free use.
I like sticking the light up my ass and turning the light on. It feels so good and warms up my butthole
Absolutely love mine! Although I have to take the battery out at night when I'm not using it because for some reason it drains battery even when the light is off.

The favorite part of my S1Ti is the glow in the dark 'traffic cone'. Make the S1 a perfect nightstand e-candle.
Good review, I just got mine and its amazing. I can tell already that it blows away the stream light micro stream, its about double the cost and the stream light is a great light but this is way better. My suggestion to show the size of this light and other lights etc, put it next to a bic lighter.

For size comparison, just put a quarter or a Coke can (or even the 8 ounce Redbull can) beside it for the audience to get a better understanding of the object !!! Cheers !!!
I ordered one from you guys yesterday and got my 10% discount. Thanks!
+Glenn Martin I should have mine tomorrow. BTW, I'm glad you said something about the O- Rings. It would have sucked if I wrecked them removing the Light from that packaging. Thanks!
Great educational video. Thanks. And by the way, your backyard looks pretty cool.
Great review. This little light is so awesome.
i just received mine and if you notice - in the accessories compartment of the packaging - you will also find an extra magnet with the lanyard
*****
interesting - i also found only one o-ring spare - but you are right - it is a spectacular light - you can even wear it on the rim of a cap - great little light
....aaaaaand I cut my o-rings....
Lmao
***** I laughed when I saw it on the video. Oops.
The statistics indicate that there really should be a warning of some sort on the package, front and center and visible without opening the box, that the black rubbers are o-rings.
Good thing I watched an extensive review and an unboxing video before receiving mine.
+Austin Waldo lol....dude...you're awesome. Thanks for the laugh.
***** Information is a golden coin, eh?
They've changed the packaging. Now instead of two spare o-rings, you get one spare o-ring and a spare magnet. +Jafafa Hots
It's not really a spare magnet. It doesn't fit the S1's tailcap, so it doesn't replace the installed one.
Gunner193
really? Huh. Mine looked to be the same size but I didn't actually try putting it in.
Jafafa Hots Yes, it does look that way at first, until you compare them. The second magnet is a donut with a much larger circumference than the pill-shaped one already inside the S1.
Gunner193
It sounds like the magnet I got is different from yours... it's not a donut, etc. I truly appears to be the same.
Jafafa Hots Weird. Does your S1 memorize moonlight mode?
Thanks for the review!
Small, powerful, great battery life, and mode memory... what else could you ask for?? Do you think you'd get any better run time out of the Eagletac 16340 750 mah over the olight with 650 mah that you guys include in the bundle? It's only another dollar or so.
A review this good and there is a coffee stain on the table... tsk tsk tsk. Seriously though, great review!

Love the light but just don't like the switch. I wish it had the same switch as the baton 10R II.
Would this light be able to be attached to a keychain perhaps?
+Going Gear When you will review S2 Baton? I'd like to compare it with Nitecore MH20 :)
I'll buy the copper rose gold from your store.
Nice review!
Very good videos marshal, keep up the good work))
+Going Gear any word about the S2 ? when will it be in stock ?
You neglected to mention a huge benifit of that clip. It's facing the right direction so it will clip on the bill of a ball hat. I dig it.
+bugman5923
Not necessarily the "right" direction. The reverse is good for bezel-down carry, when you don't want to risk scratching the lens, especially one like the S1's that isn't made of glass.
+Gunner193 scratching the lens? really? it's a tool not a talisman. if you use it everyday it's going to get beat up...
bugman5923 Going a reasonable and easy step towards preserving the light is not making a talisman out of it, pal. And I'd rather my output not be lowered because the lenses aren't tossing light the right way. I can just turn the clip around if I wanna hat-lamp it anyway.

Are there any olights that have a beam profile similar to the Surefire E2D or eb1? I want something with more throw....
Great video.
Can you please compare the s1 baton vs the s10r baton II?
Thanks for your time!
+Sam Wittman If the s1 baton had the charging system that the s10r baton II has, I wouldn't be going crazy trying to make my mind. I guess I have to get both as u said lol.

Hey I bought the s30r and the lens broke were can I buy a spare lens

YES he bought one
Why 9 minutes seems an odd number for a timer, how about ten makes more sense if there is any

You mean the S#R series' charging dock? If so, no, because the S1 doesn't have the circuitry configuration at the tail to charge on it.
Can this take a magnetic charging cable tail cap conversion?
To show people how small it is, you should put it next to commonly known items like iphones, keys ect.
Will they be making a S1R in the future? I like recharge station...
+Going Gear just checked your website, out of stock is the copper. Will you guys be getting more in?
new favorite light.
Will the rechargeable tail cap from a s10r work on the s1? The only thing keeping me from buying this right now is the fact that they don't currently have a built in charging system. Love my s10r btw.
Having a hard time deciding between this Olight and a Nitecore EA11, any suggestions?
Better run times with a CR123 or 650mAh 16340?
Nobody seems to mention that CR123 flashlights are way too chunky for carrying inside of a jeans pocket :/
+Going Gear
Yes it is very small but not very thin compared to a AAA flashlight. I'm afraid that it pushes against your thigh, when wearing a tight jeans. Am i really wrong? Because it performs like a beast and i'd love to try it. But i need i flashlight that you do not notice while wearing it, otherwise i'd leave it at home.

S1 or s2? Which one U prefer ?
I just got mine but the last output memory only last for like 5 munutes. Even if the last mode was the max setting after 5 minutes it will re-set the memory and it will turn on on the low setting. Is mine broken or does the last setting memory only last for 5 minutes?
Going Gear... Thanks for response. I figured it might be a safety feature and also to conserve battery if you accidentally turn it on in your pocket.
Hey Going Gear! Just wondering, do your S1 Batons keep moonlight mode in memory? My S1 defaults back into low mode after turning it off and on again from moonlight...
+Going Gear I see, I thought mine was defective or something. Weird that they got rid of the moonlight memory. Reason why my old S10 is still around.
Lost mine ;( are you going to get any more rose colored copper ones you had?
Ordered the brass one from you along with another olight. Thanks for the reply.
+jtaylorb88
You may be able to find a Massdrop drop for the sold out ones, but I can't give you any certainty on that possibility.
is this rechargable
I've lost to many single units to heat.
What about a hard drive on a computer, Will this magnet mess it up?
+Going Gear
How about other components when you, say, place the light on the side of the CPU? Any issues?
***** Thanks, buddy!
How is the s10R 2 baton? Worth the upgrade?
+Going Gear thank you
RIP Marshall :(
How's the color temperature?
+Matt Rodgers depends... I got 7 of these little lights and two of them are much more to the neutral white color (but not really neutral) but definitely much less cool white... so it really depends on what piece you will get in the package. This small but noticeable difference in color of the beam is pretty normal with any high quality flashlights
How does it handle heat?
+Going Gear
To add: mid mode doesn't generate enough heat to be a concern. Lo doesn't heat it up at all.
Damn, i thought it was perfect until i saw the distance is only 30m
Olight makes some great products. Unfortunately, their customer service is non-existent - very disappointing.
I own this flashlight..Olive it but I have no idea why they bother with even having 500 lumens on it.... 1.5 min really?...great light but that's worthless they could have just made it 300 max output and gave us another 30 min runtime on max 300 lumens.
I love it not Olive lol
***** I hear you...I live in northern part of ga any chance on putting a second store up around here lots of traffic comes through here to go to the north ga premium outlets it would be a smart move.
ja mejor Linterna que éste tenido hasta la fecha
Is this flashlight USB rechargeable?
How do you recharge the battery? And can it take an AA battery?
pay attention :) to video and learn..geeze what is wrong with people today??
+Going Gear hey! i have a question. can I use a s10r charger for s1 flashlight? :)
They just came out with the S1R rechargeable version.
the lanyard sucks, I almost lost my awesome flashlight
is it really a baton
that extends
with the pocket clip I find it handy to put it on a brim of a "baseball" style cap for hands free use.
Can i use AW18350 rechargeable batteries in this flashlight?
+Going Gear can you reverse the pocket clip
with the pocket clip I find it handy to put it on a brim of a "baseball" style cap for hands free use.
