    I read The Stand in 9th grade, the first act of the book, Captain Trips, is still absolutely terrifying and some of the best genuine dread Stephen King has ever written as you see society collapse. I know this movie is pretty cheesy at points and some parts haven't aged too well, but I love it so much. I first saw it on the Sci Fi channel when I was like eight or so, and it just hooked me from the very beginning with that dreary guitar piece. One thing that I don't think can really be denied is that this series totally nails the atmosphere.

      Tyler The Guy I absolutely detested this miniseries. The beginning was promising enough, but all this good vs evil circus with Randall Flag and Mother Abigail was disappointingly campy and goofy. I couldn’t believe this was what all the build up was for. It felt like it was written by a 35 year old 5 year old.

    • @tylertheguy3160
      @tylertheguy3160 10 месяцев назад

      @@nickfoozI mean, personally I think it works. It starts out as a dreary tale of the end of civilization and then morphs into a fantasy epic of sorts. Stephen King said he wanted to write something akin to Lord Of The Rings but with a random guy from Texas named Stu instead of a Hobbit named Frodo.

      I know this is a two year old comment but in the novel (recently re-read it) they said the virus basically mutated constantly, which is why so many people could catch it and seem to beat it but then would succumb by the next mutation while it was in their system. So some strains were apparently extremely fast acting while others were slower. In the mini-series it's pretty haphazard for sure though, and I remember when I watched it as a kid I thought the same thing, and that it was really inconsistent since it showed all the scientists dying instantly in the opening but then it seemed like most people lived for a while and died slowly.
