From Harlingen, our first to California in 1957 and back to TX, to Ohio in1959 and back to TX, again back to California in 1960 and returned back TX in March of 63'. the following years were to Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska and somewhat settling in Ohio some years returning back TX.
I would NOT trade all those years ... yes, I am proud tejano/chicano. All that stoop labor was just an experience in our lives, and I have made the best I could from that experience.

Memories 60th and 70th. My Father was a Trukero AKA El Gavilan. owner of Trucks and Semi Trucks. We would travel to many locations such as Arkansas, Michigan, Alabama, New Mexico, Indiana just to mention. We would leave just right after school was over and would returned on the month of January the following year. Working thoes fields was no joke. Monday through Saturday with one day off. The age of 5 years old i was picking cotton along side my two older brothers and Parents. Those were times when parents showed and taught thier children how to earn a living. My brothers and I are very proud of our parents. We were all born in the early 50th. Today is a new generation that has no ideal what it is to earn a dollar the way many of us that worked those fields or packing sheds. This song is dedicated to our ancestors who brought our parents the same way. Greetings from Santa Rosa, Texas .

Great memories. My mom and dad would tell me stories of how they worked and had pictures of them working during this generation. My parents, uncles aunts worked in the fields as well. My grandfather also had many trucks, semi’s and over hundred workers. They were from Edcouch-Elsa. Trevino and Sanchez.

Started my trucking company in Arizona. 50th, 60th and 70th were the best experience in our family lives. We're still going strong. Greetings. Santa Rosa, Texas.

My father picked cotton in his younger days. He would tell me stories about when they would go to Clarksdale Mississippi around the 1940'sand pick there aside from Robstown and the RGV, Rio Grande Valley. He said that one year a young black boy came to their camp in Clarksdale and asked my grandfather if they could take him back with them. He kept doing that every night and 2 years after till it stopped one day when parents came looking for him.
Like the song says and my dad as well, the morning pick was better due to the dew and make the (costales) tow sacks weight more!! My parents raised 10, 5 boys and 5 girls con la chancla!! I too being from McAllen born and raised in Rio Grande, picked watermelon, vegetables and fruits from the orchard in the summer days. You learn the value of hard work and appreciate the dollar more. This is who we are mi jente, LA RAZA!!!

    • @rogelioramirez8133
      @rogelioramirez8133 2 года назад +1

Si. (The only break from the monotonous days in the sun.) I did enjoy the traveling, seeing new things/places. Some of these things/places I had read/seen in books. I remember seeing Busch stadium in St. Louis through the hole in the lona. Honest honorable work for many of us but we should not let our "sharp ones" stay behind. We need to encourage and back them up to get higher education so that they can sit on tables where decisions are made. We don't have to prove to anybody that we are hard workers. Our history shows that from way back in the beginnings when the Aztecas built Chinampas to what is now the mexico city area. Arriba mi brown bothers and sisters. ElRoi

Awesome song and great video by Los Fantasmas del Valle ..............It reminds me when we (family) used to go to Bovina/Herfered,Tx area back in June - 1982 to work on the cotton fields or the sugarbeeds fields.............and every Friday after we got paid we would stop by the ALL-SUPS store , and got myself 2 borritos and a Pepsi..... (something I still do today) , when ever I have a chance.......Unfortunately my mother passed away in 2003 and my older brother also passed away on 2013 so things have been rough on my family .......but watching this type of videos makes it better on on the family and keep those memories alive.........

    Aun recuerdo, los años cuarenta,
cuando con mis padres, pizcaba algodón,
yo me levantaba muy de mañanita,
para irnos temprano, para la labor.
Y con el sereno,de la madrugada
la primer pesada, era la mejor,
y entre todos juntos, hacíamos tres pacas,
    pa´cuando quería, calentar el Sol.
    Apenas seis años, tenia cumplidos,
y yo no podía, la saca arrastrar,
pero yo quería, ayudarle a mis padres,
con un costalito, me ponía a pizcar
A las meras doce, decía mi madre,
vénganse mis hijos, vamos a comer,

This video shall be forwarded to the racist klu klus klown Donald duck Trump. This shows how our ancestors work to feed the gringos and all around the nation, not let him put us down as what or who we are as latinos or Tejanos. If he eats vegie then he supports the latinos as well. Young farm workers still works for better life for them self and parents. Hope one day farm worker can be known as how people get food on there table, vegies- fruits, and so on.
