Great knife ! Great Instruction ! Great Video ! Thank You !
And thank you for watching! 😁
Very helpful, although I am not going to try this for a couple of months. Nice to be able to come back to this video when I'll need it!
looks great, can hardly wait until I am able to do work like that, how to vids like this are a big help, cheers
Thanks mate, glad they help!
@@SamTownsBladesmith they really do help, explained properly makes a massive difference to us new
Just so happens I have some wrought and high carbon salvage perfect for this, next week! Thanks Sam!
Let me know how you go!
Sam this series on forging blades is great!!! Could you do a video about forging à long thin cutlass or Argentinian vaqueiros blade please.
Thanks!
Take care.
Well done, Sam!! Great video!!
Thanks mate!
Nice job Sam towns.
Thanks mate
Fascinating video. Thank you sir. Very enjoyable and educational.
🙏 Well wishes and Blessed days now Sam.
Crawford out 🔥⚒️🧙🏼♂️
Thanks for watching mate
Great video Sam as always.
Cheers mate
That is going to be a pretty blade when all finished and etched. Thank you for sharing the process.
Hopefully so mate, thanks for watching!
Great video Sam. Enjoyed this one a lot. Would love to see a follow up video on this blade with grinding, handles, finishing etc.
Thanks mate, I'll give it some consideration
I’d like to see you do a video on forging a Finnish pukko knife. I’m really liking the birch bark stacked pukko knife handles. I know your just showing the blade portion but still sweet knives!
Thanks mate, I have a video making sloyd knives from earlier in the year, which are basically just shorter puukko!
@@SamTownsBladesmith finding the video now!
Nicely done, Sam. I recently made a broke back Seax using cable top and 5160 edge. Fun build. I've used the same combination you did with wrought and 1084, as well
Awesome video man! I wish I could get my hands on some wrought iron. 1075 steel it is for me haha
Haha yeah it can be tough to find, but never stop looking. It shows up in the darnedest places
would love to see you do a how to for a pattern welded Seax
It can be done!
@@SamTownsBladesmith that really would be awesome, it is my goal to make a traditional herringbone pattern Seax sooner or later
You made that look so easy. Its all in the preform I figure.
Absolutely. The preform is the most important aspect of the forging
Very nice
Cheers mate
I'll wrought YOUR iron, Big Fudge.
Don't threaten me with a good time
Hi sam is there generally a reason why you should forge your distal tapers before you forge the rough blade shape thanks for the great info and content
Hey mate, in most cases I will preform the profile and then establish the distal taper before bevelling, except in this case where the tip is being cut in so I want to minimise material loss. The reason I forge the distal taper before bevelling is that it's hard to get horizontally parallel surfaces when the bevels are already in place, you normally end up creating a reverse bevel toward the spine instead, which can ruin the overall cross section of your blade. Hope that helps!
Nice video and beautiful knife, can I ask, where do you get your material such as steel for forging, I'm a fellow blacksmith and up till now all my steel has be given to me or I "acquired" it from an old vehicle of sorts
I usually buy my steel from creative man here in Australia, depending on where you live there will be steel suppliers who stock tool steels, you just have to ask around.
Woot, first! (Because I cheat and get to see it first as I am a Patreon...you should be too!). And nice to know about the tang extention as I burned the tang off my sword.
Haha yeah tang extensions are handy
Lol 1st regular person
You are!
