    Great video Sam. Enjoyed this one a lot. Would love to see a follow up video on this blade with grinding, handles, finishing etc.

    I’d like to see you do a video on forging a Finnish pukko knife. I’m really liking the birch bark stacked pukko knife handles. I know your just showing the blade portion but still sweet knives!

      Thanks mate, I have a video making sloyd knives from earlier in the year, which are basically just shorter puukko!

    Nicely done, Sam. I recently made a broke back Seax using cable top and 5160 edge. Fun build. I've used the same combination you did with wrought and 1084, as well

    You made that look so easy. Its all in the preform I figure.

    • @SamTownsBladesmith
      @SamTownsBladesmith  3 года назад

      Absolutely. The preform is the most important aspect of the forging

    Hi sam is there generally a reason why you should forge your distal tapers before you forge the rough blade shape thanks for the great info and content

    • @SamTownsBladesmith
      @SamTownsBladesmith  3 года назад +1

      Hey mate, in most cases I will preform the profile and then establish the distal taper before bevelling, except in this case where the tip is being cut in so I want to minimise material loss. The reason I forge the distal taper before bevelling is that it's hard to get horizontally parallel surfaces when the bevels are already in place, you normally end up creating a reverse bevel toward the spine instead, which can ruin the overall cross section of your blade. Hope that helps!

    Nice video and beautiful knife, can I ask, where do you get your material such as steel for forging, I'm a fellow blacksmith and up till now all my steel has be given to me or I "acquired" it from an old vehicle of sorts

    • @SamTownsBladesmith
      @SamTownsBladesmith  3 года назад

      I usually buy my steel from creative man here in Australia, depending on where you live there will be steel suppliers who stock tool steels, you just have to ask around.
