    Some Sekonic light meters can be calibrated according to the camera you are using, and you can have different profiles for different cameras. The part in the video about the possible absence of EL zones and having just the light meter being problematic does not stand logically.
    Even if you had a light-meter that could not be calibrated, a DP would have conducted tests with the cameras he was using and the light meter and would record the latitude he has and the correlation about his cameras' DR and light meter readings. It would take a bit more work but he would be on point. In any case all upper-end Sekonic light meters from the L478 upwards can be calibrated according to a camera. Nevertheless nice introductory videos there for the uninitiated, appreciate your efforts.

    You can calibrate the meter to any camera. It's pretty cool!

    Yea EL Zone is your number 1 friend, but an ok monitor and 1 light meter is still more affordable than even Indie 5...

    This is such a useful video. I wanted to ask - if for light skin tones you need to be over mid grey say +1 stop, but you are also planning to overexpose for your sensor to help reduce noise and get a cleaner image (I usually do around +.5 or +1 stop) - does that mean I have to expose light skin at +1.5 to +2 stops over? Can exposing +2 stops start affecting rendition of skin tone in that instance?

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  10 дней назад +1

      Really just depends on the sensor. For instance Sony’s newer sensors, the internal spot meter of the cameras rates middle grey about 2/3 over. So in that case, you would be putting lighter skin tones around +1-2 over. Just gotta test the sensor. I’ve done a video on how to test: ruclips.net/video/3GWMxBspBRs/видео.htmlsi=VOR80iGnHnPeflDG

    At 7:49, where the meter is different from your camera, is it because of the speedbooster or is it because the way this camera sets it's MG value ? Another great video Justin , my meter should be arriving soon and your videos helps me a lot !!

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  3 месяца назад +1

      No. The reality is the camera is actually two stops over the meter. I was already calculating for the booster. Ive been posting shorts on this, but every cameras internal meter is different. Perhaps i’ll do a dedicated long form video on this topic, but every camera should be matched to the meter before every shoot. Because each sensor is designed with certain limitations based upon the manufacturers desire to how sensitive they set the cameras internal meter to middle grey.

      @@JustinPhillip ooh I see! I know that different cameras use different MG values, but i didnt know they would differ that much. As soon as i get mine, i'll be a doing a lot of tests on it to understand how my blackmagic cameras will behave. But a long form video on this topic would be awesome for sure, even though it might be niche, i would love to hear your insights on it

    Is the matching only for the Spot or also for the Incident metering important. When you put the 1 Stop exposure compensation in the meter, do you do it for the incident as well as the spot ?

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  3 месяца назад

      Well once you change anything in the meter it affects both the incident & spot function. But for the best accuracy and specifically when calibrating to the camera, it’s best to use spot mode because remember the camera’s meter is also a spot meter.

    can we calibrate metre to camera by using false color.?

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  3 месяца назад +1

      Wont be as accurate. Plus false color isnt showing stop values.
