    I bought this and you gotta seal any gaps when you're trying to smoke anything. Otherwise it's a pain in ass trying to maintain a temperature.

    You seem like such a nice guy. I was just gifted this grill and going to season it tonight. It's my first barrel smoker and I look forward to using it. I understand it's not the best smoker but I believe it's a great starter and.... Can't beat a brand new one for free! Thanks for your tips on this and in other videos. You got a new sub today. Stay blessed.

    I have the same smoker, am seasoning it as I type this, lol. Noticing a lot of smoke leaking out from the sides of the smoker box and main body. Have you tried sealing yours to try and improve airflow?

    • @derrickwhitley
      @derrickwhitley  3 года назад

      I haven’t tried sealing, but I might. I think the temp drops somewhat when you opt to use the smoke box. Overall, I love the grill.

    Just bought a grill for the first time. This exact grill actually. I have a question. What do you do to cool down the grill when the temperature is getting close toward 400?

    • @derrickwhitley
      @derrickwhitley  2 года назад +4

      Hello! I would close the vent and stack pipe to control the temperature.

    I’ve never grilled other than 20+ years ago but never owned one either. I got the same grill as a wedding gift. So I neglected to read to the instructions and did not season my grill before doing a test run. How would this affect the grill in the long run? I’m gonna season it for my next cookout now that I know. Also, do I need to season it every time I grill or just every now and then?

    • @derrickwhitley
      @derrickwhitley  Год назад

      Congratulations!!!! Seasoning protects it from rust. It’s recommended every few months, but depending on your region, obviously it wouldn’t be necessary during brutal winters. Also, seasoning grates helps keep food from sticking. I love my grill, you will too!!!

      Appreciate the advice. I forgot to tell u I also didn’t know there’s a temp limit so my last cookout reached 600 F at one point (I actually read it in the manual but forgot about it) so some of the exterior paint peeled off. I’ve already ordered some fire retardant paint to spray over to prevent rusting

    Didn’t the inside get sticky as oil did not fully get carbonized with low heat and coating? Why would you “season” a grill that’s powder coated inside? You season raw metal exposed to prevent from rust. You season iron pan to prevent rust and food sticking but what you did was like seasoning a frying pan that has coating on it…
