My 2020 CV 50s Tele is EXACTLY like you say. I put a 4-way switch in it, new switchplate/wiring/pots/real Fender knobs, and topped it off with a pink pearloid pickguard (white blonde body color) and it is my favorite guitar. Original pickups are fantastic. $350 new.
I still say you need to check out the Godin Radium. Tele body, Les Paul scale, HSH configuration, and has a TUSQ nut for extra Canadian content. Like you I’m a Tele guy and this has quickly become my favourite to play.
My butterscotch blonde affinity with a 4 way and Tex mex serves me well. Sure the mods were a hassle but doing on a day off made it part of me. Put the work in and enjoy.

Your timing is eerily perfect on this one. Been casually looking at T style guitars for that Fender Princeton I got recently that I mentioned in your Live Stream the other day. I have been scouring the internet looking for a good used price on a PT Special. I love my Schecter Nick Johnston Traditional HSS (Strat) and want another Schecter!
I have been shopping T-style guitars for the past 2 months. I was going to originally get a 60s classic vibe but after some research I decided to get a schecter pt special. It arrived last Friday. I'm extremely pleased with its build quality, tone, and overall performance.

The 2 t style guitars I've settled on are both LTDs. '87 Eclipse NT in pearl white and te1000 black blast. The only things the 2 have in common are the body outline and dual humbuckers. Otherwise they're complete opposites. They cost a bit more than some others but you get what you pay for and I wanted guitars that don't need pickup upgrades. The Chapman ML3 pro in Burnt Orange is my current GAS problem. It's on par with what I have or better.
i've got a Schecter PT Fastback IIB, it's their take on a bigsby tele deluxe and can only say nice things about it. does everything i could want and looks cool as hell.
I've got a Godin Stadium '59 guitar which is a T-style guitar with a Seymour Duncan "59 humbucker in the neck. It's a really nice, well made guitar but there is something about it that I don't like but I didn't notice it before I bought it. The way the controls are laid out you actually have to reach over the volume knob to get to the pickup switch and I think this is a poor design that could have been so easily avoided. It really does seem awkward until you get used to it. They also could have added a coilsplit to the humbucker to get a single coil sound in the neck but that could be added later.
You should try an Xaviere. Edit: of the three you showcased, I've only played a G&L Tribute, and it was the Special model with their P90 style pickups. I didn't play it amplified, though. I loved how it felt, and it had a great transparent green finish. I just want to see you try an Xaviere because they're cheap and supposed to punch way above their weight class.
Enjoyed hearing some REM. The Godin sounds great and the Schecter comes in purple so how could you go wrong with either? I like the HNIC shirt. I should order me one since they don't really sell them in Texas.
I got a Sire T7. The neck is amazing. It's a great modding platform. The neck looks great, and the body looks pretty good. Throw some new hardware and electronics in it and you got a custom shop level telecaster for $1000.
my favourite tele variation has a double cut, 3 single coils (or a hot rails on the bridge), 1 volume and 2 tone controls, a 5-way switch and a trem that I never use. best tele ever
I highly recommend the Shi Jie TVL model. It is a faithful representation of the Fender Telecaster with a bit of a custom-shop vibe to it. I love my TVL and STE (strat model.) They are worth every penny.
I had an older Korean made G&L Tribute. Well made but didn’t do much for me. Guy I sold it to got back to me a few days later to say how much he loved it though. My one and only tele is a Paoletti leather series tele bought 2 years ago. Didn’t go into the store to buy it but I didn’t like, at all, the guitar I went to check out and buy. Tried a Silver Sky which I liked and probably would have bought if I had not tried the Paoletti. Love at first strum and it’s still my favourite (and most expensive) guitar. I own 4 Fenders and 3 Squiers but to this day (only been playing 4 years) I never played a Fender Tele until the George Harrison Rosewood tele a few months ago.
Played the others but what gets loaded on the bus is a Fender Custom Red Mahogany twisted Tele and a Player Plus Nashville with maple fretboard. The others for various reasons for me did not make the cut. For S styles a Fender 60’s Custom I picked up used and a PRS Silver Sky are all I need. On the Teles it is not one thing that keeps me going back to Fender just a whole host of things combined, just feel right.
I've watched your deep dives on all three and wondered which one you preferred. Last year I came close to buying the pretty purple PT Special to get the best of both Tele bridge and P-90, but went instead with another slab guitar an LP Special with two P-90s (on a sale) since I love the bridge P-90 tone probably more than I love a Tele bridge tone. I think the PT Special could be awesome with a mini humbucker in the neck so I may yet get one for modding.
I've got a G&L USA Fullerton guitar and it's pretty much flawless in terms of construction, tone, comfort - everything really. I've my eye on a G&L Tribute ASAT Special purely for the jumbo MFDs, they're amazing. Big Fender fan too
I recently got a custom made Tele style guitar from a little company in Colorado and it's freaking sweet. Birds eye maple neck with an Ebony fretboard, I'm really digging it.
Just purchased a new left-handed Fender Am Pro II. The slinkiest feeling guitar I've ever played! Got to admit that Schecter is really wild! Would LOVE to see you check out a Larrivée Baker T. They're up in your neck of the woods... Any love for Larrivée?? Thanks for the great content, Landon!! 🙏
My favourite guitar, too. Obviously. 🙂 Godin makes really nice guitars. I have a beautiful Godin Velocity which I like a lot, so I am tempted to pick the Godin, but I would go for the G&L. I think their guitars are still underrated. My G&L Legacy is a wonderful instrument, and I would love to get my hands on a US-made G&L Tele.
@@charlesmurphy3979 Yeah they're awesome. Got mine for a ridiculous price, never played, from some not so bright guy on ebay. Still had the thin plastic cover on the pickguard. Case is gorgeous too.
I actually traded my Schecter PT Pro for an Epiphone SG Standard '61 and a Strat I'll be turning into a baritone. The Schecter was incredibly well built, but it just wasn't my style. The neck felt too stiff and the pups (American Z's) were definitely more geared toward metal. I'm also a big Tele guy, but I'll stick with my Fenders and custom builds (which will always have Fender MIM necks - I just LOVE them).
My first instinct is to say the Godin because I am Canadian and I know they make brilliant guitars. But...I think I would go for the G&L. I have a 2001 G&L Legacy strat that is easily my favourite guitar. But....yes another but...I already have a Fender Deluxe Nashville Tele which I also really love. This is very a complex issue that can really only be solved by owning them ALL!!!
I'm struggling to decide. Fender telecaster is on sale, and I could get an American deluxe with noiseless pups, locking tuners, compound radius neck at for $400 off regular price through GC, and get rewards for using my gear card. I could pay cash, but why miss out on the rewards? Or just get the $700 Schecter that looks great and has great reviews?

I've had my eye on a Schecter Retro series PT Pro. It's a HH tele style in a beautiful quilted blue. Double bound with a roasted maple neck. Quite affordable too (maybe I should say, not too expensive). I love Teles. 🖖
Definitely a G&L guy but just cannot get into the ASAT Classic neck, much prefer the Modern neck feel from their other guitars. To me it's a great value nonetheless
I have an "89 dollar" Grote. That I put SD pots and a fender switch in, locking tuners and brass saddles. Then did the fret work and so on and for less than 500 dollars it has better specs than a Fender American Strat "technically" not saying it's a better guitar. Just cost a lot less to have a good one. If you are willing to re work it you can buy a cheap guitar and make it amazing. I do it all the time. :D Rock on Landon you're awesome. I like the Schechter's by the way.
I owned a Mex Fender Tele, a 50s Classic Vibe Tele, and an SX Vintage Series Tele. They all looked identical. The Fender was the loudest. The Classic Vibe was the sweetest. The SX was louder than the Classic Vibe, but not as loud as the Fender. But...not far behind either. For a fraction of the price. I sold the Fender and the Classic Vibe, and kept the SX. No kidding...try one out. Once theyve been set up properly, they are really decent, giggable, guitars. For under 200 bucks. Put aside your snobbery...and try an SX Vintage Series Tele.
I m'y télé style was Peavey génération with humbucker and piezo it sound really but been sold! and in the past 20years Buy a lot of Godin! for Good affordable made in America Canada! ,for me is Godin stadium HT Nice télé style for 889$ t Canadian $ the more i watch and lesson to télé thank Nice vidéo! Landon!
I was wondering if you have already made a video reviewing the basic model of a Sawtooth Telecaster or would you consider reviewing one? I value your opinion and I enjoy your channel as well. Thank you for your consideration. Craig A-Z Music Haven ( My RUclips channel where I discuss vinyl CD’s and cassettes at times)
I'm a Sg man both Gibson and Epiphone...the Epiphone modern figured Custom and prophecy Model Sgs are every bit Gibson equal..I know the Gibson boys don't like hearing that but it's time for them to come into reality...
The Godin is $1100? Holy crap that's a price hike. I swear 2 months ago they were around $800. I was thinking of getting one because my Godin Session Strat has the best feeling neck I've ever played and the fret work is amazing. I sold my Player Tele because no matter what I did I kept having fret sprout and found it uncomfortable to play. The Tele body just dug into my body and arm. But the thing never went out of tune. I feel like the Godin's were really good for the money. But idk for $1100. The paint on my Godin Session is fading quickly and the body dents with a light touch but damn is it a dream to play. I'm conflicted.
I just checked L&M website and they’re going for just under $900. The Godin website has them listed higher. Prices are going up on all things it appears.
So you were joking about buying the custom shop? I just got a 52 heavy relic with nocaster pickups. I feel robbed now. Seriously, it is much better than the Mexican made player-I actually like my Chinese made Harley Benton fake rosewood copy more than the Mexican Tele. And normally I like Mexican more than Chinese, but hamburger and fries American wins today.
@@landonbailey you said buy then don’t buy. I actually got it cheaper than I thought I could get a custom shop. Someone had it for a month and traded it into the local shop. The big stores online had 52 heavy relics listed for two grand more than I paid. And it was made on my daughter’s birthday less than two months ago. I like that it looks like it’s an original that was played for 70 years but everything is brand new and works correctly without worrying fixing something so it works will gut the value. Purchase was a total win for me. No complaints.
G&L Pups are hotter(!) in person. They do not chime like a Fender single coil. Make no mistake. Schecter- 14" radius comparted to a Telecaster 9.5 radius. BIG difference, and the neck is super thinner. If you play a Tele now- this thing will wear your hand out. Believe me. I really want a PT Fastback. Lasted 2 days playing out. Big "nope" here. Godin. Hear nothing but good things. Never seen one here in the S/E USA though.
Only the American Teles miss the mark, it would seem. My MIM Standard sounds way better than any American Standard that I’ve played. I really wish that the treble bleed was standard on all Teles, though
Not necessarily a "Fender Telecaster" alternative, but my Squier Classic Vibe 50"s Tele is on point for half the price of other tele's.
Last summer I got a Squier CV 50s Esquire and it's fantastic--only $450. Plays and feels like a much more expensive Fender.
@@rockturtleneck I fell the same way about my Tele.
The quality is remarkable..

20 years ago I went out to buy a Fender tele and came back with a G&L ASAT Classic. Glad I did. Great guitar 👍🍷
Just discovered your podcast a few days ago. Love it. I am a 74 year old guitar newbie.
I know its a bit weird, but I cant get past those odd headstocks.
I never understook people who care about headstocks. It could look like a giant dildo and if the guitar rocks, i wouldnt care
Me either man. Headstock is super important
i find them beautiful! they grow on you after a while
Me too sheesh, I thought it was just me. They look too modern, they don’t compliment the body design…..
Not at all. I've passed up hundreds of guitars because of a fucked up headstock shape. When you're talking about classic style guitars from the 50's then they should look correct from boots to bonnet. I think it's kinda messed up that you have to pay a premium for a reasonable headstock. I just get the coping saw and sanding block and if it's worth it I'll shape it to look correct.
I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Schecter PT for some time. But the last thing I need right now is another guitar. That purple burst with the raw finish looks fantastic.
looks great but I hate binding on necks I think it looks terrible hehe
Would love to check these out. Love Teles.
I own a "reverend Pete Anderson eastsider T" and i absolutly love it. My choice from the three featured models would be the G&L

i would go for the Schecter Tele but sunburst model I saw a while ago Schecter PT Special 3TSBP
I've had my eye on a Schecter Retro series PT Pro. It's a HH tele style in a beautiful quilted blue. Double bound with a roasted maple neck. Quite affordable too (maybe I should say, not too expensive). I love Teles. 🖖
g&l asat special. leos best teles ever
The Weight Watchers....
"Chubby line" ...
Lol !
Definitely a G&L guy but just cannot get into the ASAT Classic neck, much prefer the Modern neck feel from their other guitars. To me it's a great value nonetheless
Why not check out the Gordon Smith Classic T
Do you know how many times I've almost bought that godin but wanted to learn how to pronounce it first...
I will guess 18 times. 🎸👍😝
You almost had me looking up fatline telecasters lol
😝
I have an "89 dollar" Grote. That I put SD pots and a fender switch in, locking tuners and brass saddles. Then did the fret work and so on and for less than 500 dollars it has better specs than a Fender American Strat "technically" not saying it's a better guitar. Just cost a lot less to have a good one. If you are willing to re work it you can buy a cheap guitar and make it amazing. I do it all the time. :D Rock on Landon you're awesome. I like the Schechter's by the way.
👍🎸
How would you stack the Sire T7 against this group now that you’ve played it?
very close to the top, if not the top
@@landonbailey Sire over the Schecter then?
I love Schecters. Next PT you check out, get a set neck. The contoured heel on mine is what sold me when I played it.
not trying T-model from Aria pro II??
i heard they're good
I haven't heard of that one 😁
@@landonbailey maybe worth to try??? from what my friend said (he own it) it's good for affordable guitar
I'm a Tele guy but I prefer the shorter Gibson scale of 24.75". Have you ever tried a conversion neck on a Tele?
I haven't, but this might be for you ruclips.net/video/Lc3cJ2tCQgw/видео.html
@@landonbailey No idea who Jimmy Eats World are or Jim Adkins but that guitar looks and sounds awesome in that video 👍
@dugbert5 Check out the Godin Radium.
@@landonbailey Too many knobs. I like my Michael Kelly Thinline with a 24.75 mahogany neck that I put together. I'll have to make a video someday.
@@markpetten9777 the Godin Radium is very nice.
Anyone played the PT Special and a Sire t7?
I'm stuck, what should I buy??
I have. Buy the one you like more
@@landonbailey yeah, if I could play either of them.
Haven't seen either in the shops yet..
G&L, quality is great and how can you beat Leo Fender at his own creation.
I like the G&L. Gives me Jerry Cantrell vibes.
Would you put the Vola Vasti on this list too?
Maybe if I tried one
@@landonbailey oh I’m sorry! You’re the Tele guy so I assumed you had.
Landon!
1:50 imma be honest Landon, i much prefer the tones on your X/Y sound comparison samples,...A/B comparison tests have been done to death
I may do E/F comparisons soon
I tried the Godin based mostly on your review. I hated it. Couldn't get on with the neck, it was so skinny and had such a thin nut!
Sorry to hear that! ya very slim overall. Hope I didn't mislead
@@landonbailey no it's all good. I couldn't find consistent descriptions of it and was interested enough to give it a try.
Godin "Use" to be a great value.
YOUR ARE A COMEDIAN. WHEN IS YOUR NEXT STANDUP
When my watch tells me it’s time
Hahaha! Can't wait to see a Fatline Tele!
kinda like this ruclips.net/video/W8Inrki-LeY/видео.html
I've got a G&L ASAT and it's a bitchin guitar.
👍🎸
I'm still waiting for the deep dive of the Belly-Cut Modern Thin-line Tele.
I was wondering if you have already made a video reviewing the basic model of a Sawtooth Telecaster or would you consider reviewing one? I value your opinion and I enjoy your channel as well.
Thank you for your consideration.

A-Z Music Haven ( My RUclips channel where I discuss vinyl CD’s and cassettes at times)
I'm conflicted.
oh wow ya that's gone up. it's $799 CAD here locally
I just checked L&M website and they’re going for just under $900. The Godin website has them listed higher. Prices are going up on all things it appears.
parlez vous godin, oui oui🤘
Sire T7.
G&L is now my favourite after fenders multi piece body experience. No longer a new fender fan.
what happened?
How’s those bass lessons goin’? 😉
I slappin da bass
So you were joking about buying the custom shop? I just got a 52 heavy relic with nocaster pickups. I feel robbed now. Seriously, it is much better than the Mexican made player-I actually like my Chinese made Harley Benton fake rosewood copy more than the Mexican Tele. And normally I like Mexican more than Chinese, but hamburger and fries American wins today.
you feel robbed from what?
Yea you literally realsed this video after me buying my fender Tele see life
😁 listen to what I say in the video 👍🎸
Suhr classic T
I gotta try a Suhr some day
Only the American Teles miss the mark, it would seem. My MIM Standard sounds way better than any American Standard that I’ve played. I really wish that the treble bleed was standard on all Teles, though
Great video ! And your love for Radiohead. Saw them at Glastonbury in 97 . Wow what gig !!
The best! Saw them in Ottawa in Aug '97 not too long after that. 5000 people in the venue.
Just bought a tele last week. It arrives tomorrow. You were too late.
Very shocked to not see a Glarry in here...
probably a grounding issue
Let’s argue about which one makes us happiest to play. I haven’t tried any of them so I’ll defer to your opinion.
This guy is funny
Mr. Bailey, you need to try a Nash T-63. Warning, you'll never go back to anything else.
👍👍
Get a Looper on the go and get some backing tracks going Landon, cut loose bro.
I've used mine a few times in videos 🎸👍
The Yvette Young YY20 by Ibanez is probably really good and probably sounds a lot like a Tele.
👍🎸
