Satriani and Chad Smith are two masters of their instruments!!! Michael Anthony is GROOVIN', too, and Sammy Hagar sounds *incredible*...His voice has aged so much better than so many of his contemporaries. He's taken care of himself and you can tell.
You can tell they're having a great time, and they're making good music in the process...that's what rock and roll is all about, to me!

As for Satriani, I agree with you. He's the benchmark. Some can do certain styles "better" than him, but honestly like you say, he can do it ALL masterfully. And the biggest thing for me is that he is a virtuoso but he never lets the showing off take away from the song. He always serves the song. He's so tasteful. And humble. The only other guy working right now who can kind of stand up to him in terms of being a tasteful virtuoso to me is John Petrucci. But Satriani is the OG.

There's another great supergroup that formed almost the same year as Chickenfoot: it's called "Black Country Communion" (Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Sherinian and Jason Bonham)...
They are currently recording their 5th album and they are AWESOME as hell!

How can you go wrong with Satch laying down a sweet groove? He's awesome.

Everyone should see their complete mastery of the Deep Purple classic "Highway Star". A stellar cover and performance!

Actually a quality outfit they put together that many wanted to hate from the start. Not breaking any barriers, but just good rock.

This group was amazing for the relatively short duration they were together.
The first album, IMO, was the better of the two albums they recorded. It has a looser feel than the follow-up, III. That’s right, they named the second album “three”…they wanted to avoid the sophomore curse. III has more cohesive songs, but the feel is more formal, but still worth checking out.
I agree with you about Satch. He has a unique combination of technique and soul in his playing in equal measure and they’re both out of this world. So many have a lot of one or the other, or even equal parts of both, but he has more of both than anyone else I can think of.

I’ve always put Joe and Vai in the same category, but Joe does a better job of just jamming a good simple grove.

Still don't get over how Michael has the Logo angeled on his guitar and Joe straight - but they still hold their instruments at the same angle most of the time 😅

Damn, DH, I'm with @anyway96, i'm going to put in a formal request for the whole album for the patreon members like you did for PJ's No Code.

This video was taken from a DVD. It was supposed to have been filmed at The Tabernacle in Atlanta. But after filming, they realized something had gone wrong with the cameras, so they shot again in Phoenix and that footage made the DVD. I was at that Atlanta show. I was on the floor, pretty close to the band. The cameras kept swooping by right in front of me, and I knew there was no way I wouldn't be on the DVD. But sh*t happens, I guess. It was an amazing show. To this day, one of the best I've seen. And Chad kept throwing sticks into the crowd. I almost got a couple - but once again, sh*t happens.
Around this time, Frusciante had left RHCP and it had not been announced yet that Klinghoffer would be taking his place. A few years later, Chad said that Satriani had shown lots of interest in joining RHCP. That would have been interesting...

    Honest questions:
    1. Was your score based on the song itself, the live performance, or both?
    2. If you would, could give separate scores for the song and the performance? To me, the song is good to pretty good but the performance is outstanding! BTW, I think Sammy did quite a bit of crowd interaction off-camera.
You really need to pick up and listen to the Chickenfoot and Chickenfoot III albums. Avenida Revolucion!

When there's a live performance, I always take it into account in the score. A live performance can help or hurt the score, depending on the strength of the live performance.

The lead singer of Red Hot chilli peppers is not the only frontman who can play drums in the world of rock music. Till Lindemann started his musical career as a drummer in the band First Arsch, and only then he overcame his modesty, strengthened his vocal abilities and sang.
