李登。年十八為解元。後五十不第。詣葉法師師間故。師以叩文昌帝君。帝君命吏持籍示曰。李登生時。上帝賜玉印。十八發解。十九作狀元。五十二位右相。緣得舉後。私窺鄰女。事雖不諧。而繫其父於獄。以此遲十年。降二甲。繼又侵其兄屋基。至形於訟。又遲十年。降三甲。又後於長安邸中。淫一良家婦。又遲十年。今又盜鄰女。為惡不悔。祿籍削盡。死期將至矣。師歸以告。登遂愧恨而死。
譯文：
李登，十八歲就考取解元，但此後一直到五十歲，都無法考中進士。向葉法師請示原因。葉法師便替他叩求文昌帝君指示。帝君命神吏拿李登的官籍，宣說開示，查李登出生時，天帝賜玉印，命中原本註定十八歲中解元，十九歲考取狀元，五十二歲官位做到宰相。但因十八歲得舉中解元後，暗中偷看鄰女，雖然淫事沒成，但卻將鄰女的父親冤枉入獄。因此上天罰他慢十年考取，並降二甲。可是李登隨後又侵佔兄長的屋地，乃至於訴訟。因此上天罰他再慢十年考取，並降三甲。又因李登後來在長安，姦淫一良家婦女，故又再罰更慢十年（前後合計已被罰慢三十年）。但最近又盜取鄰女，上天見他作惡不斷，雖然前世積福，今生原本命好，但一而再、再而三的犯邪淫、作惡事，如今，不但完全削掉他官籍命中的福緣，而且死期快到了。葉法師將上述文昌帝君開示的情形告訴李登，李登聽後，對自己一生的作惡多端，慚愧悔恨而死去。
