  • We've finally got some open space in our in-ground garden and it's watermelon planting time! Join us as we show you how we plant seedless and seeded watermelon plants in the same plot to maximize production. We'll tell you the specific ratio of plants to use so you can grow delicious seedless watermelons in your backyard garden!
    We'll also harvest our red onions that were planted back in November, and tell you why we like this Chianti variety so much. We'll show you how to cure onions properly if you're getting a bunch of rain and not able to lay them on the grass outside.

      Try intermediate day onions. I'm in upstate South Carolina and they do a lot better than the short day onions Travis grows. My onions are just now beginning to form bulbs. Intermediate day onions begin bulb swell when the days are about 13-14 hours long, which allows more time for the onion foliage to grow. The more foliage, the bigger the bulbs, in general.

    How much water should a watermelon get per week? I have never been sure about this, after all they are like 97% water. I believe this was why I had that Blssom Rot issue last year. Not do to poor soil but, lack of water, as some times I would wait a few days to water because to me the ground seemed at time not hot, and still some what moist. As in North Dakota had crazy foggy summer days last year. super dense and super wet.

Wondering because I broke my injector last winter & trying to decide to buy an another one…or not. I always had a lot of problems with my old one. I thought it was because there was a long distance between my garden & my faucet…about 100+ ft. But it looks like ur garden is a long way from ur facet also. So maybe it was just me. I use weed barrier clothe in my garden so it is very hard to fertilize with the pellets like u do. Liquid fertilizer is the the best way to go for me. The seedless we've grown taste pretty dang good. I prefer the newer hybrids (seeded or seedless) to the older varieties because the fruit size is so much more consistent. I've trialed quite a few of the older, heirloom varieties and they're just inconsistent and lack vigor IMO.

    So I have 2 more years of fine tooning my seedless germination as I tried twice (with the same batch of seeds) and probably didn't get 30% germination, and the 2nd time I used the saran wrap over the tray on the heat map after 14 days I finally gave up with only 4 out of 18 germinating. I think next year I'm going to top my seed trays with Vermiculite instead of Perlite as I've seen alot of commercial guys doing it.

    • @LazyDogFarm
      @LazyDogFarm  Год назад

      I'm not sure that vermiculite vs perlite is going to make a huge difference. I think the trick is heat and minimal watering. My germ mat thermostat read 105+ several times throughout the few days mine were germinating. I thought that might be too hot for them, but didn't seem to bother them.

      @@caroleferreira2846 My Wife got it off amzon. They sell them in many different sizes. We have ours hooked up to the grow light timer, so about 14 hours a day. They really do make a huge difference.

      I'm guessing you're referring to the video when I got a big load of compost? That came from The Cotton Gin in Lenox, GA. It's right off I-75.

    But don't go to other channels for their tricks because that is just anecdotal, you can't trust their results, they didn't run tests and they can't tell you why it works for them lol
