Doubt anyone was better than him in a two-on-one defensive situation. He often turned an almost certain try by the opposition into a try for his side. Intercept-master!
Back when all the rugby jerseys (in the world) were XXL! Love this man though. great era for the stormers too, Percy, Paulse, Skinstad, Fleck... Slaptjips! Gotta say though, Skinstad's linking with the backline was brilliant - one of the best distributors, often popping up in the flyhalf position.
He is indeed underrated, when you see him stand there on the wings, you don't expect much until he has the ball tucked in his arms. He has an impressive try scoring prowess too
Pieter Rossouw's try against the All Blacks at 21:12 was in the second half of a test match in Wellington, I think in 1996. I will remember that try for as long as I live. Rossouw was the blindside wing on an attacking scrum inside the NZ 22 and he just chimes into a 9-10 wrap around by Joost Van der Westhuizen and Henry Hornibal. Hornibal took the pass and dummies to Joost angling towards No.7 Josh Kronfeld and left No.10 Andrew Mehrtens in no-man's land not knowing whether to take HH or chase JvW. In the end poor JK was faced with the job of covering HH and shutting the gate (gap) left open by Mehrts. I'll bet many school teams, club sides and provincial XVs tried this play or variations of it with varying degrees of success, I'm sure. But after some thought I realised why it worked so well that sunny day in Wellington all those years ago: both JvW and HH were running halves, known primarily for the threat they posed with their ability with ball in hand and this must have tempered the All Blacks defence which waited off them for a fraction too long before realising all too late who the intended recipient was. I doubt this move would've worked had it been any other combination of SA halves (9-10). Fourie Du Preez and Butch James perhaps, Ricky Januarie and Andre Pretorius maybe...
It was Uli Scmidt, he knows tons about standing out on the wing, and got a fair share of tries that way. I am confident there was no malice in his comments toward Rossouw
Om te kan finish moet jy op die regte plek wees...en hy was great met dit...mense vergeet dat Pieter die game ontsettend goed verstaan..onthou hy was die Bulls se backline coach toe hulle Super rugby gedomineer het
Was Rossouw the fastest player in that Springbok era ? Faster than monty, Paulse, etc ? I think so. Tall man with long strides, does not look faster than the smaller men who have fast , shorter strides, but I think he was faster than the others. Also, was he not a top schoolboy pole vaulter ?
Fantastic player by far... a great Springbok...
Pieter Rossouw was one of the best I've ever seen. His long strides made him deceptively fast. Very skillful for his time.
Yes...him and JP Peterson...long legs but jeez these okes had gas
Thank you very much for this. Been waiting forever for a tribute to my hero as a child!

I just love "slap chips". No pun intended, he was one of my all-time favourite wings/full backs.

Loved watching Slaptjips!
Like an eel. Great player!

Russouw jou DORING!!!!! Love it..... great player!
Unbelievable wing. Underrated. One of the best no question
Rossouw was the true intercept king.
agree, not Jean de Villiers
Great player, absolutely deadly
Dangerous Rossouw, on his way to the try line, slap chips, powerful Springbok back line , world champions.
One of WP's bestest Prooooooooooovvviiiiiiiiiiiiinnnce

1998
Not the flashiest of players but he was reliable.
He played with the great Danie Gerber, what an honour!!!!
Gerber played long into his 30 such a pity he never made it to a RWC he'd had been the star at '87 and '91 if not for the ban
@ernestoroberts169 Jeez Gerber would have been an even bigger legend if he had the chance to play more international rugby...Politics is a btch
Pieter Roussow was a good player 🙏🙏🙏🙏
No...he was a bevokte player
Great video
Intercept master
I loved this oke as a player but boy did he give you heart palpitations when he started ice skating back and forth behind the defensive line.
slapchips was like mcdonalds chips you dont get much of them larkham and rossouw class players
Snyman was so good.
Slaptjiiiiiiiips!
an Era when WP dominated the BOK BACKLINE
Yes that's why we didn't win a WC..lol..just joking buddy..as a Bull I had to say something....GO BOKKE 2023
The French must have hated the site of Slaptjips!!

Should have been interception machine.

Andre Snyman according to 100m time was faster
@@dawiebenjamin3249 he was rapid.
Breyton was the quikest over 50m
Him and JP Peterson has the same running style...they look slow going at 180km/h
Slap chips Ressouw. very good but I was not a fan
