Not dealerships intentionally marking up cost of EVs then complaining that they don't sell...then intentionally marking up ICE cars and blaming EVs

So in a single breath the dealers say they're worried that people will hang on to their less fuel efficient vehicles AND that they want fuel efficiency requirements to relax.
So they want less fuel efficient cars so that people can sell their older less fuel efficient cars and buy new also less fuel efficient cars. Sounds about right for that group.

“The final rule establishes standards that would require an industry-wide fleet average of approximately 50.4 miles per gallon (mpg) in MY 2031 for passenger cars and light trucks, and an industry fleet-wide average for HDPUVs of roughly 2.851 gallons per 100 miles in MY 2035.” Using Toyota as an example, right now they have 3 vehicles with the potential to hit 50 mpg. The Prius, the Camry hybrid and the Corolla Hybrid.
To get the whole fleet of Toyota vehicles to that point in just a couple years would be a Herculean task and extremely expensive for car buyers. Is that what you want?

@@GroundhogzGarageEU ban on sales of ICE cars is already destroying Europe’s auto industry. EPA doesn’t want to be far behind.
It doesn’t matter that replacing ALL ICE cars with EVs would decrease CO2 emissions only a little bit. Neither EPA nor EU seem to care or understand that most fossil fuels are being burned to heat and cool buildings, followed by energy used in industrial processes. This obsession with fighting relatively small source of CO2 emissions that is personal transportation, is insane.
EV transition is like replacing all windows in a house with triple glazed argon filled, extra thick coated glass ones while having no insulation in the walls and attic and heating the house with coal burning in the fireplace.

Maybe the government should shift the penalty money collected to building out EV infrastructure.
When they say EVs are not what customers want, if they were honest, they would say we do not know how to build EVs profitably and want to keep the cash cow of ICE vehicles going.
The reality is that buyers want what is affordable, reliable, and easy to own.
The "lack of demand" is not due to customers, it is due to dealers and manufacturers failing to deliver the options people would pick if the option was there.

I had a 2013 VW Jetta Hybrid. As far as mileage is concerned, IT SUCKED. Over all 32 mpg is not impressive. VW, just use the two cylinder diesel motor from the XL1 to make RE-EV's, beat the competition. Imagine VW using the XL1 range extender motor on their RE-EV's. The ONE thing VW does need to remedy is: those stupid screens on their 2024 Atlas Cross Sport that keep going out. I'm on my THIRD screen!

All the energy in a hybrid comes from fossil fuel (petrol or gasoline or diesel), so a hybrid is still an ICE vehicle. Hybrids are complicated because there are two propulsion systems, each of which can go bad. People worry about the battery in a pure BEV degrading, but these same people do not worry about the small battery in a hybrid degrading. With a hybrid, you still have to change the oil. Yes, hybrids are the worst of two worlds.

I expect they will start dying off in 3 years as EVs start their next growth spurt. This can be seen by their fear of Chinese autos. They are cheaper and better vehicles overall. You hiding of the problem is exactly like Legacies approach to solving the problem. It will never work. Legacy are zombies and don't know what they are yet.

We've already gone through many in the past. Rotary dial phones, phone operators, the yellow pages, bank tellers, the mechanical calculator, secretaries, etc. Next up is gonna be bridge toll workers, auto dealers, and auto companies.
When a government has to negotiate a MINIMUM price for an import, to prevent local industry from being completely undercut by foreign technological innovation, you know that something is really badly broken. And the fact that negotiation has to be done in the first place is a big red flag... it means that those "local" companies aren't as local as people would like to think, and would get destroyed by retaliation if they advocated for hard-core protectionism in their home country.

The Chinese government has long been suspected of hiring as many as 2,000,000
people to surreptitiously insert huge numbers of pseudonymous and other deceptive
writings into the stream of real social media posts, as if they were the genuine opinions of ordinary people. Many academics, and most journalists and activists, claim
that these so-called “50c party” posts vociferously argue for the government’s side
in political and policy debates. As we show, this is also true of the vast majority of
posts openly accused on social media of being 50c. Yet, almost no systematic empirical evidence exists for this claim, or, more importantly, for the Chinese regime’s
strategic objective in pursuing this activity. In the first large scale empirical analysis of this operation, we show how to identify the secretive authors of these posts,
the posts written by them, and their content. We estimate that the government fabricates and posts about 448 million social media comments a year. In contrast to prior
claims, we show that the Chinese regime’s strategy is to avoid arguing with skeptics
of the party and the government, and to not even discuss controversial issues. We
show that the goal of this massive secretive operation is instead to distract the public
and change the subject, as most of the these posts involve cheerleading for China,
the revolutionary history of the Communist Party, or other symbols of the regime.
We discuss how these results fit with what is known about the Chinese censorship
program, and suggest how they may change our broader theoretical understanding of
“common knowledge” and information control in authoritarian regimes.
