Your explanations in regard to the reasons why you use each brush, and the names and brand of the brushes is so helpful! Thank you so very much. The paintings you do are lovely!
Hi Maria, Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to share what brushes you use and I would just like to thank you so much for all the very helpful tips ☺️👍 I found your art tutorial very helpful indeed ...... Stay Safe Stay Well to you and all your family Lin, 👍☺️🌈🦋
Hey Maria...the painting you show in this video with the river reflecting the sunset sky...do you have a tutorial for that one? I scrolled back through your vids and didn’t find it. It’s so beautiful and I’d love to follow a tutorial of it.
Hi Kathryn, two years ago I became an Ambassador to Princeton - so slowly over the last two years I have transitioned into their lines of brushes. I still love Black Velvet, but I have also started developing my own lines of brushes. Holbein has been helping me with this project 🌹😃The first brush is out already www.etsy.com/shop/mariawatercolors Soon, I will have soft brushes to paint animals too.
Hi Maria, thank you for the very informative video. Your artwork is amazing!! I ALWAYS enjoy watching (and learning from) your videos. I’m curious as to your preference of the Heritage series over the other Princeton brushes eg. Aqua elite. Also, you seem to use the Heritage brushes for a majority of your work instead of the Velvetouch. Could you kindly explain the difference between the Heritage and Velvetouch. I recently purchased a size 6 round Velvetouch and it has an amazingly sharp point, but it does not hold a lot of water/pigment. I’m wondering if the Heritage would be better. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Hi LulluNatic, I used to paint with "Black Velvet" series by Silver Brush (you will see me using them in my older videos) which I do love but since I became an Ambassador to Princeton over a year ago I started using Princeton's Brushes more and more and after testing a lot of their brushes through a year I found a new line of brushes to work with. Heritage is a great line I am simply sharing what brushes I normally use in my videos. and this is just a general idea for anyone in terms of shapes and sizes what to look for especially when you are new to watercolors🌹
@@mariamorjane Yes indeed, I saw you using these BS brushes a lot in the past hence my surprise. I haven't tried Princeton Herirage brushes so far, only Princeton Snap brushes (white) that I love for their stiffness. I do have a trigger (silver silk) but I find it doesn't hold much water and pigment. Do you think Princeton Herirage triggers would do any better?
Hi ☺️I do know Snap! and I will occasionally use a larger one like 10 or 12 to paint an animal. Did you mean a RIGGER brush? Heritage does hold a good amount of water, that's for sure and I like their Liner (rigger) size 2 which is what I normally use to paint whiskers etc. I can't recall which is the Silver Silk, did you mean their "Summit" series ? www.princetonbrush.com/brushes-princeton-brush-company-art-brushes/watercolor-princeton-brush-company-watercolor-brush/ Also if you are looking for a rigger that holds way more water you could go with Neptune Series but I personally don't care for this series because they are way too soft for me and the Rigger is too soft as well. Thanks for chatting ☺️🌸
@@mariamorjane My language settings are in French on my cell phone and it corrects almost every english word I type so yes, I meant "rigger" 😅. And it's Silver Silk 8807s size 0, from the same brand as Silver black Velvet apparently. Thanks for the suggestion, I will try Princeton Heritage liner. Greetings from France ☺
oh it's all good☺️☀️🌹I think the Silver Brush's Silver Silk line is the same as their other line they used to have but the handle was silver... I can't remember but I have tried it before, with the same white synthetic hair. I do have a rigger brush from that line and I gave it to my mom who is an oil artist because that brush was way too stiff and didn't hold much water/paint so yes I would definitely recommend to try the Rigger one by Heritage. Other great alternatives are: Escoda's Rigger/Liner/Script liner size 0 and their Prado series Rigger size 0.
Dziękuję, wygląda na to że nie używa Pani pędzli typu MOP. Mam 3 mopy Tintoretto jeden wydłużony . Używam do malowania architektury. Może to niezbyt dobry pomysł a lepiej pracować na płaskich pedzlach (flat). Przepraszam że po polsku ale jest mi łatwiej.
Hi, yes, I used to paint with them, I liked them. They are softer brushes so you have to get used to them but great for painting especially animals 🙋🏻♀️🌹
Maria I have a question?? Do you know longer affiliate yourself with the brush guys company? It seem to be a lot easier to order with them. I was looking for the brushes you’re talking about on Amazon and it’s very confusing. Thank you so much, Liz😊💗👍🏼

@@mariamorjane hey Maria, i have seen u were using silver black velvet and escoda brushes earlier, just wondering what do u think about as compared to princeton heritage. I am confused on escoda versatile and priceton heritage as both are synthetic sable
Hi Rini, Escoda makes excellent brushes and they are all handmade which is amazing☺️I love their synthetic Barocco and Perla series for detailed work because they are pretty stiff, I also have their Versail a bit softer comparing to Barocco and Perla. I do recommend these if you need smaller stiffer round brushes. Also their rigger/script liner brushes are excellent. Princeton's Heritage are also synthetic brushes but softer comparing to Perla, Barocco and Versatil which is why I like their "Stroke" (flat) brushes to paint landscapes, when a flat brush is too stiff it's very hard to create a smooth background without picking up the paint. You need softer brushes for that. I think Heritage is one of Princetons best series overall that suits me best to how I paint. You do have to feel the brush by hand tho to know how it feels to paint with them. Heritage is definitely a line I would recommend because you have nice round brushes as well and the liner brush I use all the time. For Black Velvet by Silver brush - another series I absolutely love and recommend. Their 3/4 and 1" flat brushes are a must especially if you paint landscapes and animals. Round 8 has been my long time favorite for painting pretty much anything. They are softer because they are half synthetic and half natural but that's what makes them unique to what you can do with them. ☺️🌹☀️ Generally now I paint with Princeton's brushes because over a year ago I have become their ambassador, so naturally I paint with them more and more but that doesn't mean I won't share my true feelings about any brushes. Basically I don't recommend brushes I don't believe in. It's just not who I am 👩🏻🎨☺️🌹
@@mariamorjane thank you Maria, for your valuable knowledge and you took so much time and effort to help me here. Thank you. You solved my confusion. The brushes are quite very expensive so investing in them need bit research. Thank you again dear 💕
Thanks for your video, I have been waiting for this for a while, thank you. I just have a question, what are the differences between liner brushes, script liner brushes. When I go to the stores to look at the small brushes, they have many numbers like 2/0, 1/0........ I understand the long from short but the numbers confuse me.
Hi Meraki, yes☺️🌸they are pretty much the same brushes just long and thin, it depends from how the company calls the brush but whenever you see a name "mini" liner.. it's a smaller detailed brush, and anything that starts 2/0 or 8/0 which is below 0, it means the brush is smaller and smaller, anything that starts after 0, like 1, 2, 4 is larger and larger brush. So it usually goes like this from the smallest brush first: 20/0, 18/0, 10/0 (I am going to skip some numbers) 6/0, 4/0, 2/0, 0, 2, 4, 6, 12 - I started from the smallest 20/0 and went to the largest 12. I hope this makes sense.
Paper always buckles like crazy when you wet the whole sheet of paper, right? Even on 140. Even Arches or any 100% cotton paper. But with Maria, it never does so I assumed she's a watercolor witch 🙃
@@mariamorjane I have seen the video... Should I wet my paper for 2 mins before or after the sketch?if it's after the sketch doesn't it make the sketch fade away? Does it apply to potraits?or is it just for landscapes and sea scapes?
