The navy yarn looked so good when you held it up near your face! I think that color will look so nice for you. I can't wait to see these projects come to life :)
It’s a great idea to keep a knitting journal of your projects! I have many journals from decades of knitting and I cannot stress how helpful it is to look up notes on previous projects. It makes for a charming history of your knitting and can be passed on to family members or friends. Good for you!
I have used the recommended yarn only once in about 25 sweaters. I use yarn I like, gauge I like, then do the MATH and it will turn out perfect fit. My husband,an engineer and he does the calculations for me. I even make worsted weight sweater pattern in fingering weight. Be brave.❤️🇨🇦❤️
I love adding yarn shops to travel plans! So glad you were able to visit so many shops in Sweden/Denmark. Substituting yarn adds a fun additional element to garment knitting- excited to follow that journey for you!
Randomly stumbled upon this video, immediately subscribed ❤️ You have such a soothing demeanour & I love to see more women in tech in online knitting spaces! I've also recently started adjusting my yarn purchases according to my colour season (I'm a soft autumn) and it really does make a big difference. Lots of love from Finland 😊
Hi Amy! Loved this podcast thanks. I am also a real fan of the Denmark and Scandinavian yarns so thanks for sharing all of your recent trip and acquisitions. I am also interested to hear you are based in Massachusetts, as most of my knitting presently, is for my adult son who is also in Massachusetts - an Engineer also, and presently at MIT from home in New Zealand. You guys get COLD over there in your winter, so great opportunity and inspiration for me to knit up a storm of woolly loveliness to ship over to him. You looked great with that navy next to your face. Definitely one of your colours. I am now going to have a bing on all of your past podcasts whilst I excitedly ball up a newly received package of Isager spinni yarn colours for a Brick sweater for my son. I have a merino/possum DK but near on aran wt yarn from Wild Earth in Christchurch NZ, that will be it's base. Possum is great for warmth and also gives a beautiful dark greyish halo. Keep up the great work and inspiration for us and thank you Amy. 🥰🙏❣
I love watching these videos as a before and after, and you chose such beautiful patterns and yarn, can't wait to see your Mobi sweater 😊 and I'm listening to you while crying over trying cables and raglan increases at the same time 😅
You shouldn’t be shy. As long as you are friendly, tell the shopkeeper you have a youtube channel and ask the shopkeeper to take some short clips, there should not be a problem. It’s free advertising for them. As long as you’re not filming people without their permission, you should be good. PS- that navy is gorgeous for you! Just found your channel and am thrilled that finally a youtuber is as into petiteknit patterns as I am. PPS- about the yarn substitution and gauge, it’s all about the gauge, plus knowing your knitting style - if you’re a tight or loose knitter.
Just found your channel and was SO EXCITED to hear a knitter talk about complimentary colors/color palette/seasons, etc. A year ago I had a consultation with a House of Colour consultant (an in-person version of what you described) and LOVED it! I've been trying to think about what colors compliment me most as I plan and work on projects. Bright spring colors are best for me and it's not always easy to find those colors in a nice wool yarn! Can't wait to see what you do
I agree staying in a color "season" has been a great rule of thumb. It's not super hard and fast, but now my wardrobe has really started to come together. Things look cohesive without being matchy matchy. I don't worry about "nuterals that go with everything " because if I'm staying in my season it all goes together! I also happen to love my "fall season" color scheme.
Omg what a great podcost. I was watching someone else from my knitting group on RUclips and you popped up. I am going to have to follow you now on Instagram. You totally knit that the type of stuff I like to know from the European designers. I say you do a trip to Coph/Denmark with about 20 knitters or so to meet up and we do yarn tours. It would be like a mini retreat I would so be there. Seriously think about it. I have a bunch of knitting for olive yarn I would love to go to the store as well. it's so neat and organized as well. I'm also knitting the bubble sweater from My Favorite Things. I follow their patterns as well.
How fun to run into your channel! My grandfather is from Gothenburg, have cousins I’ve never met sort of thing. Maybe someday, loved the haul. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing all your new yarn and project plans! I'd love to be able to visit some of those yarn shops someday to swish the yarns and see the colors in person. I've been curious about color analysis and done a lot of research and self-analysis. I've concluded that it isn't often clear. A lot of people are led down a path that is both limiting and doesn't suit them but for some it's helpful. You appear to have beautiful warm colors in your skin, eyes, and hair but it's hard to tell unless your lighting is truly neutral, which is hard to achieve. So the copper brown, artichoke green, and forest green you mentioned, are all warm colors that will be harmonious for you. Navy is actually a "universal color" (teal and some berry tones are as well) so they look good on everyone! Have fun and experiment and see what you like.
Thank you again for this. Also can't wait to see your video on stuff you knitted in 2022. As a suggestion I know you weren't feeling well, but when you have more strength gf maybe get up on walk around, or change direction. I do something lol just to make it more interesting - as we're watching you for the hour, but there wasn't a lot of variety. we do like when you show your pics or pop ups also though :)
It's so awesome to see a fellow engineering knitter! What field of engineering are you in? I loved seeing all the beautiful yarns you got, that navy really does make your skin glow!!
How crazy is it that I learned from you that there are yarn shops in Gothenburg, i live there haha!! I’m pretty new at crocheting and haven’t yet to learn knitting, but thank you so much
I stumbled upon your video today and enjoyed your POV and travel yarn acquisitions. When I traveled for work, I use to seek out the local yarn shops as well; It's a great way to explore different areas of a city. I highly recommend trying to use yarns other than what a pattern calls for; it makes the FO feel extra personal :)
Hello! I enjoyed your podcast because I also love Danish wool and Danish designers. I’ve bought a lot from the UK and Denmark this year because the dollar has been so crazy strong compared to European currencies. Also, international orders subtract the VAT tax which is included in the price, and that deduction usually covers the shipping. So take a look at importing yarn again, and I think you’ll find that even luxury yarns are much less expensive than you think.
I keep saying to my family I want to go to Sweden/Norway/Denmark on a yarn buying trip and they think I’m crazy. This video lets me know I’m not lol. Even though you had a work trip too. Great choices 😍 I’m very jealous 😅
Just found your channel and love our yarn choices and sweater patterns. Would love for you to give the cost of the yarns you purchased- as a new garment knitter cost is a consideration.
I’m so curious where you took this color analysis quiz! I’ve always wondered what colors would look best on me and could never figure it out! Could you leave the link?
thank you for sharing i am loving your channel, i really think the navy suits you, i have the same colours you have from the charts you showed, and navy is just a fantastic colour for me and a soft pale blue, i also go for turquoise but i have done that to death, i love the neutrals but they do not flatter me, berry colour the colours have to be rich and vibrant or they look washed out on me, hope that helps, all the best for 2023
Just watched your podcast You are so sweet and love your work I loved the navy blue showed The baby blue and the mauve colour you showed with your complexion Hope to see you soon with what you picked out color wise and your finished objects Happy holidays for you and yours 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Hello fellow New England knitter! So happy I found your channel…we have similar interests in patterns and yarn! Your trip looked amazing 😊 I’m planning to cast on the Moby soon too, still undecided on what yarn and color to use though…looking forward to seeing yours! Happy holidays! 🎄
You are wise to be cautious about substituting yarns. Aside from meeting gauge, some designs require the yarn to have drape for it to achieve the desired final project...This came to my mind immediately as I have frogged entire finished sweaters due to too much drape or lack of drape. I enjoy your podcasts, keep up the good work!
Kind of crazy, I've been wanting to get in to knitting but don't really know where to start but I live in Gothenburg Sweden, so I guess I know where to go now! :)
Hi Amy. I like everything about your blogs, you have so much good content and you deliver it clearly. On one of your videos you showed a ladies sweater with lace down the sleeve. I‘ve looked back but can’t find it or else the description is in another language. Please will you be kind enough to give me the pattern name and where I can get it. Thanks so much. I look forward to seeing your next blog. All the best in 2023.
Hi Sheila, thanks for watching! I don't recall a sweater with lace sleeves but would like to help you with the pattern name! If you know what video of mine it was in, I might be able to find the pattern for you!
The Copenhagen yarn shop is Sommerfuglen. It means The Summer Bird but Sommerfuglen is a butterfly 😄😃 fugl (bird) is almost pronounced like fool. (I am a Brit living in Denmark). My favourite yarn shop is Tante Gran in Frederiksberg but Sommerfuglen is lovely too.
Sometimes I make yarn substitutions. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Last year I swapped linen for wool. The results were not as professional as I would have liked.
I found my zipper sweater zipper on Etsy! there are some great options on there. Also I was just in Gather Here in Somerville and they had some as well (I didn't look at them closely because the store was quite crowded)
Etsy is so smart - I'll have to check out what is on there. And I love Gather Here, so I'll have to check them out for zippers too! Thanks for the tips!!
I think we should treat neutral colors as nude makeup colors: it's different for every skin color. I have found out that my neutrals are more like grays and cool toned lilacs. Figuring that is actually game changer for wearing things you imagine yourself looking like "neutrals", you get the same effect, just not in camel 😅
OOOO the navy really did make a difference. Thank you for sharing and I just took my color quiz and hot pinks are what I need in my life this winter. Beautiful yarn and what a cool job!
I’ve just been going through the exact same thing regarding picking yarn colours! I’ve been attracted to all the lovely neutrals that petite knit and mftk uses but I think I’m a light spring or light summer which means lighter brighter colours might suit me! What website did you use to find your colour palette?
Yes I got the notebook at Knit & Purl! If I get a chance to go back I definitely will! I just found your channel after my trip 😭 if only I knew beforehand, would've loved to meet up
Welcome to knitting! :) I use knitting notes to keep track of any pattern modifications I may be making, notes on the yarn that I might forget later, or to keep track of where I am at in a pattern. I also plan on using my notebook for video plans!
It is very soft! It also has a springiness and airness that makes a really nice fabric. I have heard that when used on its own, it's very prone to pilling though!
Another Yarn in Burlington, MA is one of my favorites! I also enjoy Black Sheep Knitting in Needham and A Garden for Knitters in North Andover. I posted a video in October where I visited 10 local yarn shops for the Boston yarn crawl that you might want to check out if you haven't seen it yet!
If you’re not too far from Burlington Ma., there is a yarn store named Another Yarn that has some wonderful fibers!! I just picked up some malabrigo & mohair. 🧶
The navy yarn looked so good when you held it up near your face! I think that color will look so nice for you. I can't wait to see these projects come to life :)
Thank you! I can't wait to get them started!

I have yarn travel envy! Your channel is great. Thank you and don’t stop knitting! Onward.
Definitely the navy compliments you.
I love adding yarn shops to travel plans! So glad you were able to visit so many shops in Sweden/Denmark.
Substituting yarn adds a fun additional element to garment knitting- excited to follow that journey for you!
Besides Petite Knit I'd love to hear you talk about any other designers you really like!
Of course! My next video uploading tomorrow (Jan 2) has a lot more designer variety mentioned, all with great designers that I like!
The unicorn lavender would look very pretty on you in the cabled sweater.

Aw that's awesome!

The iceblue would look fab.,..light and cool
It's so awesome to see a fellow engineering knitter! What field of engineering are you in?
I loved seeing all the beautiful yarns you got, that navy really does make your skin glow!!
Thanks Avery! I am in systems engineering and really enjoy it!
That sand color is very pretty, can't wait to see it knit up!
That navy is so good with your skin & hair tones! I can't wait to see it all knit up.
You can totally pull off the knitting for olive unicorn purple. It looked great against your skin when you had it up on the screen.
Thank you! I'm really torn between the purple and the blue but I feel like the purple is more unique, so I am leaning towards it more...
How crazy is it that I learned from you that there are yarn shops in Gothenburg, i live there haha!! I’m pretty new at crocheting and haven’t yet to learn knitting, but thank you so much
Those navy colours are just gorgeous, I can't wait to see you start knitting with it.
I'm also so in love with variegated mohair lately!
Beautiful yarns! I'm happy that you had fun in Sweden.

Seattle fabrics has great options for multiple high quality zipper sizes and the shipping is very cost effect to the east coast
Thanks for sharing!! I will have to check them out!

2:30 lilla garnbutiken? knit & purl? because I have a feeling it was one of those ahhaha!
next time you're in gothenburg girl hmu

What is a favorite local yarn shop in Massachusetts?
