Spot freaking on brother. It's why people can play the OG now for the first time and fall in love with it despite its dated features and graphics

Nomura had a moment of genius,..... like a band and their prime album/s. It cant be replicated easily... if that were true then every movie, every album ,every book, every song, every game would be good

"The story of Final Fantasy VII transcends gaming. It could be a movie..."
Or a TV series. If The Witcher, Last Of Us, Halo and Fallout can be adapted for TV, imagine what HBO could do with FFVII's story and a $300 million budget.

Very good points! In a number of ways the core of FF7 is a timeless classic from more modern times.

I might be the only person who is so torn on OG 7. I’ve never had it in my top 5 all time games.
But I’ve always included it in my top 3 FF games.
When I first played it I was mesmerized. I truly thought the whole game was Midgar to the point where I thought they decided the steampunk of 6 (then 3) was the future.
Man when I left Midgar I was like jaw dropped.
However…any and all subsequent play throughs didn’t have the same impact ever.
I always wanted the core story of 7 expanded upon and the compilation never did that imo.
Enter Remake. That game is in my top 5 all time.
I anticipate this whole saga will be.
This saga so far is doing what my heart always wanted to present the 7 core story with the added depth it always deserved.
    Sorry for the rant!
    Can’t wait for Rebirth!

first thought is "no" because it's meta aspects is too controversial, by that I don't mean that there's paralleles to the arbiters and the audience of OG, I mean that because they are adapting things and not being 1to1 to it's source material has the audience feeling bamboozled or misled. all those negatives lowers it from being a part of peak fiction.
you could argue the MCU until endgame was prime fiction. you could argue that Peter jacksons Lotr trilogy is peak fiction. you could argue other fiction which isn't built upon other things are peak fiction.
a "remake"??? nah, not when it's being done so weirdly and abbrasively. at best I think that after the final game has come out and we see the whole picture can we "excuse" the choices they made when adapting a 97 blocky 3d game into a 2020+ cinematic trilogy of games on par with god of war in terms of cinematography. it COULD be that we look back at it and understand that what they did was for a reason and it was worth the gamble. that's the best case scenario and even then I'm not sure we could call it pinnacle of fiction.
I would agree that the content of og ff7 is so vast and amazing that adapting it with more detail will probably make a piece of art of peak quality.
BUT all of the surrounding feelings and controversy taints it. could it be that people born next year might look at the trilogy when they're 18 and study it for being the pinnacle of fiction? maybe but as it stands.... too much potential for failure. they have no safety net and they could break their neck with this stunt

A good comparison would be OG star wars to Disney Star Wars. Both had tons of theory crafting from fans. OG delivered on its sequels. Disney had better storytelling from fan theory crafting and was a letdown.
Im in the camp that the gamble is worth it. I like the added elements keeping us guessing. I know the OG front to back and have played it through the years over and over.
Years from now i think people will play the Remake project without knowing the story and be very intrigued by it still. We actually see this already from streamers who tried Remake and never played OG.
Also, you know modders will do a 1:1 remake of their own once the trilogy is out haha
