The problem Nikki has is pretty common for hobbies with rules like card games tabletop and such and it's teachers want you to play at their level instantly but forgot that they didn't start like that. Coming from experience of helping younger people like second cousins, nephews and their friends learn these games is you start slow and build up for a better more engaging experience. Like if you want to teach people how to play warhammer 40k they don't drop them into a massive battle and then explain how to do everthing you all at once. usually just start with a small skirmish with low level squad and you explain upward from there.
I think a good way to learn is online. At least for some card games, the video games will teach you how to play slowly. That's how I relearned Yugioh and MTG. Their tutorials are pretty good.
That metal-detector story sounds like something straight out of a Seinfeld episode! I could totally see Kramer and George getting a metal-detector, not finding anything, George testing it by tossing some coins in the sand and losing them...
Back in the university days, I ran a Pokemon tabletop campaign and it started out innocent enough, then someone rolled a natural 20 while defending themselves against a low hp pokemon, which I then described the attack somewhat graphically. It somehow eventually involved certain Magic the Gathering areas as cities, genetic experiments with humans fusing with pokemon, and then a whole arc that centered around a cyberpunk dystopian city, but still was related to pokemon. Also as a prank, someone in the party signed another person (that hated Bidoof) up for a "Bidoof appreciation subscription" where they would get Bidoof related accessories.
Having a Magic or D&D group that doesn't gel with you takes the fun out of it really quick. The hardest part about getting started is finding a person/group that fits your style.
Nikki's actually played a bit of Red Dead, so she might have understood if you told her that Wizards of the Coast sent the Pinkertons after that guy. Which is actually what they did, so, yeah.
you two should look into Manykudos many scandals series like they showed in the video. he's got some for DnD, magic the gathering, yugioh, warhammer, WoW. they're actually really interesting
I have collected all the major TCG brands, built gundam models and legos. Plus I game way more than I should. I'm doing my damndest to be as big of a nerd as I can lol
If it comes down to learning Magic, I'd say that MtG Arena has a pretty good tutorial. It's not going to teach you all the cards and mechanics, but it still lays the foundation for more advanced stuff.
It's sad you had that bad experience with DnD chad, never forget that each table is it's own universe, they wanted to be serious about it but it's not the norm at all
my DM would 100% LET YOU BE a drunken Bard. our last monk was a 90 year old man who beileved everything in the world was part of his mind. and a plant girl who is made of weed, but can never get high from it
I once played a storm barbarian who was an idiot; he didn't know his father, and he became/found out he was a Storm Barbarian when one day a lightning stroke him and he didn't get hurt. From that point on he convinced himself he was the son of a god, and told everyone he came across that the God of Thunder was his father. There wasn't a god of thunder in the setting. I specifically asked the DM to never let him have divine ancestry, and he delivered. The best part was managing to start a religion devoted to him and his father. Impressed a group of sailors enough for them to build an altar for him, and now there is a religion in the setting which can't give any clerical/paladin powers, but which a lot of sailors believe in to keep them safe during travels.
I had a mouse infestation a few years ago. They got so big that my traps usually didn't kill them so I had to shoot them with a pellet gun Wasn't the best winter I ever had lol
I love how she was confused with how much they were focusing on executions.
The rich man's hobby
@@sterlingmuse5808 "The rich man's hobby" 😂
I don't blame her, I was thoroughly confused when "GUILLOTINE" showed up on screen my first time watching. 😂

I just either learn online or get a book about it from the library.

33:01 that's true, plus the game ''Baldurs Gate I'' had so many silly and humorous characters with all sorts of funny quirks.

My aunt used to have chickens and yes they stink
I feel for Nikki.
I’m going through the same thing with people around me playing magic
The Egyptian bit was amusing, considering the new Cleopatra show exists.
I always thought Magic was a lot easier to learn than Yugioh lol
I made the rightful decision to watch this wile lunch
I love how the section of the video is called like "candles" and then Internet Historian starts by talking about war crimes across history
Didnt know historian internet uploaded a new video
Ah yes Historian internet, my favorite RUclipsr

Holy crap... My neighbor had racing pigeons, and we hated him for it... They're awful.

Pokemon is pretty easy card game to learn compared to Magic The Gathering.
