    Re-posting from below:
    Re: Why I'm getting rid of products I still love/like/have recommended:
    If I kept all of my fave products, I would have 20+ primers, (and that’s just in one category) which to me feels wasteful, as there is no way I can use any of them up by the time they would expire. So for that reason, I’d rather pass them on while they are still good so a woman at a shelter can enjoy them, or a sister/friend/coworker, etc. Otherwise, they’d be going in the garbage partially empty a year or so from now.
    *My job is not to have a huge collection of makeup.* My job is to review products, share dupes, etc. with you all. If I feel that I have done that, my own personal collection is exactly that: my own PERSONAL collection. What I keep or get rid of is being shared because I know many of you want the inspiration to be less materialistic, to get in a declutter mindset, or simply because you are interested in what I'm keeping.
    For example....I absolutely LOVE the Physician's Formula Spotlight Primer AND I JUST RECENTLY featured it in some videos, including a dupe video for the Becca Backlight Priming Filter. They are the virtually the SAME product, and I love both! Since I've already featured it in a video (hence doing my job), I know that I won't use BOTH of them up before their expiration date. Why keep both, for one of them to eventually go bad? That seems wasteful to me. I decided to keep the Becca one, as I had spent my own money on both of them (neither were PR), and I wanted to really get my money's worth.
    I hope that makes sense. Perhaps I will make a video explaining this in more detail. I figured to most of you, this would makes sense. I'm sorry that it bothers some people, but it's *my* collection. :)
    I talk about this in detail on my Snapchat if you want to hear/know more about my thoughts!

      Jessica Braun | JAMbeauty89 Well said and makes perfect sense. You can recommend a product, and decluttering it does not negate your review. I appreciate your decision to downsize your collection; it reminds me I don’t need so much. ❤️

      Reading some of the comments I honestly feel like they didn't watch the video and yet throughout the video you were saying you are going to give it away to someone who would actually use it. I love brutal declutters. Yes, you said you loved some of the primers and yes, you are decluttering them. It is what it is. Makeup is changing and saying you love a product doesn't mean you're getting married to it. There are always new primers coming out and these declutter videos show which ones you truly love. You only have one face to put primer on and there is nooo way you could possibly finish all of those. Some of the comments sound like they buy everything you recommend...Everyone has a different face and different preferences. This isn't something to get offended about. I agree with everything you've said and you don't owe anyone an explanation.

  • @2011lillian

    With 70ish primers, if you wore makeup every day and rotated through them equally, you would use each Primer about 5 times... THATS why decluttering makes sense to me.

    Wow... you go girl!! I am a retired teacher, and I know that we must have an organized classroom or we would fumble around all day. So, I have a suggestion... whenever you buy or receive a new product, put a sticker on it with the month/year. Some products have expiration dates, and others don't. This way, you continue to purge because the date of purchase is clearly labeled. Just my teacher brain cells at work!!! Hope you are feeling well and not too uncomfortable. The last trimester can be rough for some.

    Jessica...one of my most favorite things about your videos is that you are so realistic, so unapologetically you, so down to earth. I love that as much as collecting and sharing your opinions on makeup is one of your jobs, you are responsible about it. You recognize that having makeup simply to have makeup is just over the top. You aren't showy, selfish, and/or irrational about owning makeup. I love that you give things a fair shot and then recognize that others could/would really love and appreciate products that may just sit in a drawer if you keep them. Please always continue to be this way. I very much value your channel and content because I've learned to trust you opinions and recognize how responsibly you handle the mass amount of makeup you accumulate!

    One of my fav places to donate to is Project Beauty Share. They're one of the only places that takes makeup that isn't brand new. So any lightly used products that I have, I mail to them. (They're in WA). They sanitize and distribute to women's shelters once the products are sanitized by them.

      AmyM& Beauty I’ve sent about 3 boxes to them so far! Makes me feel to get rid of things, knowing someone else who needs it will get it. Cause it just makes me happy that there’s a woman out there that has self esteem issues, or is trying to get a job, but doesn’t have the makeup for it, and if I can help in that way in anyway at all, I’m happy.

      Sarah Ayers I've asked this a few times, and tried researching, but have never found out - while I LOVE Taylor giving a voice to them so others can help and are aware, I'm in WV and kinda prefer seeing where I'm helping, if that makes sense..? Do you know if PBS works mainly locally or if they help various states? There are guidelines for most shelters around me with only taking unopened stuff, but I've usually kept a bin of sanitized products until I hear of someone who might have teens / young women that have had a house fire or talking to people and helping someone trying to get a better job or something like that.. maybe that's weird, IDK, I just haven't sent anything to PBS yet because it is nice to be able to help my local area, ya know. I'm just curious and haven't heard / seen anything addressing it, if you're not sure then no worries but it never hurts to ask!

    • @deltadawn916
      @deltadawn916 6 лет назад +1

      From what I know, it’s local shelters near Spokane in Washington. The shelters near me are the same. If you go to the PBS website, I think it says the shelters that the products go to. If that helps :)

    Haha you guys are really confused by decluttering? If I had a product that I liked or even loved but I had ten more that were virtually the same thing, why would I keep them all? Just to say I have them or what? Because no one person could ever use that much makeup. So if it's a good product, why wouldn't I want to be generous and give it to someone who is going to use it before it expires? If she isn't doing things like this than wouldn't that just be wasteful? Why keep 50 good products, knowing that you yourself could not possibly use all of them? Personally I'd rather share them so they don't go to waste. Her job is to review products, not be wasteful with them. I mean do you guys realize how many products she would have if she kept every single product she thought was good? So great, she'd have all this makeup that is good makeup and she'd be able to say she had it, but than it would just sit there not getting used, so whats the point? To gloat? She's not the type if you haven't noticed. If people really have a problem with that than you should probably evaluate your priorities in life because it makes perfect sense to me. And she doesn't have to explain her reasoning any more than because she feels like passing some good product on to people who might not be able to get things like that. It's a pretty simple concept. Great video jess!

    Imagine if you tubers kept every single product they either bought or received in PR. They would have to have a house for just products. It's ridiculous people try to make them feel bad for decluttering makeup
    Why keep it if you won't use it.?? I find it so odd how invested people get in these RUclipsrs lives. They are people just like you and I. If I don't use something whether it be makeup, clothes, whatever I pass it to someone who will. That's just the right thing to do, why waste it just to have it.

    • @nich0lee
      @nich0lee 6 лет назад +6

      It's very strange that people get offended by her decluttering a product they like or a product they purchased based on her recommendation. It's like they're sad if they don't have the exact same makeup as her or scared that if she gets rid of it it will stop working for them. So illogical...

    • @rosiellagrace
      @rosiellagrace 6 лет назад

      nich0lee it really did get weird in these comments, LOL, I am not a big fan of primers but gave the NYX hydratouch a shot because of Jess and it's nice! One of very few I don't loathe [I'm trying to work all the ones workable out of my life now, it'll be nice to only have the two or three I genuinely like] and it's effectiveness hasn't changed one bit. Yeah, came back from another comment response but this comment section was brutal the other day!

    I don't understand how people don't understand! It's so simple, you, by the nature your job, have more than you need. Why should you not pass things along to others who can use? The very nature of declutters & minimalism is to only have what you will use. Consume less, waste less. If you let things expire in your drawer just because you like it, what's the point? Sigh, you do you momma!

    After all the years I've been watching your channel, I think this may be one of the BEST declutters I've seen you do!! You clearly know which ones you LOVE, just a few more to try to see how you like them, and then all the rest will find new homes (or if expired, into the garbage)... and honestly, there is NO way you could work through ALL of them without some of them expiring... How nice to *share* the love with others, who will love them and use them up! Great job Jess! :)

      I make my own scrubs with different sugars & essential oils all the time!! Always w/coconut oil! Fine white sugar for the face and lips, brown sugar (w/vanilla extract..so good) for the body & Demerara sugar for skin that isn’t super sensitive, esp. elbows, knees, feet, etc!

      AmyM& Beauty- Glad I gave you an idea!! It’s AMAZING w/the scents of the brown sugar and coconut oil! It goes really well w/the Demerara Sugar also, & if you live in the Midwest, you can get “Watkins” 100% pure vanilla extract for super cheap @ Menards of all places. Last year by accident (ok..I sent my husband & he bought the wrong thing to be honest..🤦🏼‍♀️) I was making big batches for Christmas gifts, & I needed peppermint oil to go in my white sugar face scrub. So my hubby goes to Whole Foods b/c I told him I needed essential oil, & he comes back w/a 2 pack of peppermint candy flavoring! I was like...ummm, ooookk? I started looking at it though, & it was 100% organic, obviously edible, & not as harsh as most mint essential oils! So I used it, starting out very lightly & adding as I saw fit, threw some organic red food coloring in to make it pale pink & people went NUTS!! So now with my white sugar scrubs, I go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels & use coupons on top of sales & get the candy making extracts! They carry the same organic brand as Whole Foods, & I get 2 bottles in a pack for less than $2.00, (if I time the sales right). It takes using it as a lip scrub to a whole new level, you feel like you’re using crushed up candy to scrub your lips & face, especially butterscotch, lol 😂. Also, I wanted to tell you I appreciated what you wrote to back up Jessica. I wrote a comment & I think it came off snarky, & I am sick at the thought that it was one included w/others that made her feel she had to write an explanation. I wrote an apology comment, but I still feel terrible. I’m glad you shot back at people, there were comments WAY worse than mine, like someone unsubscribing?? WHAT?? Because she cleaned out things she knew she wouldn’t use of all things!! Anyway, I live in the same town but have never met her or Tyler even though I would love to, but I just wanted you to know I appreciate everything you said. Have a great one, & have fun with the Vanilla!! 🤗💜

    I don’t understand why everyone is giving you so much hate for this. You are such a generous person!! Getting rid of things you love so someone else can enjoy them. Instead of being selfish and keeping them all and eventually them going in the trash (bc expired), you are getting rid of them so someone else can love them. I don’t see anything wrong with that. And also it’s YOUR makeup!!!! Why does everyone have such a strong opinion about makeup that isn’t theirs nor did they spend their money on. Makes no sense to me why people think that way lol but love your videos Jessica!! Keep doing you!! ❤️

    Because you are a review based channel, once you have completed the review, I can understand why it isn’t necessary to save everything. Whereas tutorial based channels often want a balance of drugstore vs high end so they can create cheaper looks as well as more expensive looks. Declutters for different types of channels are going to look different and will have different reasoning behind the declutter. Good job on getting rid of so many - now you have room to get more to review - lol!

    I LOVE that you were ruthless and realistic in your declutter. I see so many people do declutters and only get rid of expired stuff and keep so much stuff. Realistically, no one uses that much makeup unless you’re a working mua and even then, you don’t need 70 of something!

    I just recently decluttered my collection by about half, and I was so proud of myself. When my friends were going through my collection they were so confused why I got rid of so many products (I'd comment and be like this is amazing/this is great for this/you'll love it), and asked me why I'd get rid of them then. People seem to think it's reasonable to own 20 primers. Like, I could use primer every day this year and I still wouldn't use them all, or even a fraction. It's not happening. I had 30 palettes, 14 primers, 12 foundations, ect. I now have 5 primers, 4 foundations, ect. It's much more pleasant to do your makeup when you aren't fretting about using products up or being overwhelmed by 100+ choices every time you do your makeup (though, i will probably always hoard blush...). I get it. Good for you

    Jessica - I just want to tell you how appreciative I am of how *consistent* you are at uploading content - especially when you're pregnant (and also working!). It's amazing really. I like to watch videos at the end of the day to unwind (or sometimes during the day, who am I kidding?)... And, so many RUclipsrs I watch aren't always consistent with new content. But, you always are! (Although, I'm sure and fully expect you to take a break when the baby comes!) So, again, thank you!!

    I was cheering you on for the entire video! Kudos to you for being so ruthless, especially if others can use what you can't. I am the proud owner of 3 primers. Two are in your keeps. The Guerlain L'Or and the Smashbox oil. Having dry skin in NY, I actually use both of these. A couple of pumps of the L'Or with a drop or two of the oil keeps my skin feeling hydrated and my makeup doesn't budge at all. Thanks so much for this post. I look forward to your new content. Keep it coming!

    For the items that are older, one of things I always do that helps me keep track of how long I have something: Get a fine line permanent marker and make note of the month/year I open it (ex: 4/18) somewhere on the package (the tube seal, or the cap, etc.). That way I never have to guess how old they are. And thanks to this video, I can toss out the extra primers I've been hesitant to finally get rid of up to now!

    Your declutters series are my favorite in all youtube.I don't know what makes watching someone getting rid of makeup so satisfying, but it is I hate watching declutters where they have +50 items of whichever category and they only get rid of 4, using various excuses that contradict themselves throughout the video. Those should be called my makeup collection tbh.

    I love watching your declutter videos because I love to see which products win out over others in the long haul, and which products you actually reach for the most in your daily life. They're just as good, sometimes better, than favorites videos! Sometimes I cringe a little on say the eyeshadow palette declutters (because I don't worry AT ALL about expiration on powder products) but, girl, that's a lot of primers! Half the time I forget to put primer on at all!

    This was so wonderful to watch! I also wanted to tell you, in the case of SPF, to use enough to REALLY protect your skin, you need about a teaspoon on your face and neck for enough coverage. So don't let SPF hold you back when buying and decluttering face products (since the amount you'd be using would only be a small boost). If you really want to protect your skin, putting a sunscreen on your face would be the best route to go. (Korean brands have ones that feel light and moisturizing, as opposed to the oily mask feeling sunscreens we're all used to)

    You did a great job and understood the point of the video, and all of your other declutter videos. For me, it's a quick way to know your opinion on products too. Which I respect and trust. I love that you recognize that you don't need so much. I know all of people who kept things just to have them. And you're right, its wasteful when someone else can use it.

    Jessica - I’m only a few minutes into the video, so I don’t know if you did this the whole video (Tati does it a lot and it drives me crazy), but could you please try to say the name of the product every time and not just “this” and hold it - I couldn’t tell what the Catrice Primer is, but I just bought a Catrice Primer at Ulta on your recommendation, so I may have been the one you decluttered - they sell it in ALL stores now.
