Marble Bar Allows Women Imbibers, 7-9 pm!
This segment was broadcast on 'This Day Tonight' on July 6, 1967. The Marble Bar, which was at that time part of Adams Hotel on Pitt Street (it was moved lock, stock and barrel to the Hilton on George Street in 1973), had just decided to allow women to drink in the bar from 7:00 to 9:00 every evening. Reporter Clare Dunn asks some of the patrons their opinions about the new rule and meets some interesting characters along the way, including actor Jack Allen from the film 'They're a Weird Mob'.
