Seeing these all together, I’m sure some kind of conversation system was used. Preset poses, general lip movement loops, motions tweens, and the like were used to make the cutscenes as quickly as possible while at least making sure the characters weren’t totally lifeless. However, because this is the first time they’ve likely used one for a game in general, let alone a Sonic game, the usual jank and stiffness that comes with conversation systems just kind of came with it. If they did use a conversation system though, that can be good use for the next game as most of the work for creating it is already finished. Now they can work on refining it to make these kinds of cutscenes leagues better.
