I’m more impressed by how gorgeous the kings hair is than the mermaids. 🧜🏻♀️
He needs to drop that hair care routine
Me too, I'm jealous 🤣🤣🤣
I know right
It’s because it’s always soaked in salty water..
Soft curl realness

The mermaid part was far, far, far more believable than the Palace of Versailles being close to the ocean. Versailles is around 110+ miles (180+ km) from the ocean.
They did Louis Bad as well. He isn't fancy enough. The hair is atrocious here as well.
@@arsantiqua8741 i actually imagine louis the great / the sun king would be the more practical type and avoid some of the fancier regalia when he dident need to wear it
Yes Versailles is very far from the ocean and Mermaids aren’t real, so what’s your point??
Can’t you just enjoy the movie like normal people would??
@@kevindookie4040 In this particular instance, no. Had the same issue for the Pearl Harbor movie, and glaring ship inaccuracies.
180 kms is nothing.
Yeah you just need a mermaid. They just go out at sea and catch a mermaid easier than if they tried to catch a tuna lol
I dont think you can even catch a tuna by just randomly throwing a net into the sea
indeed, it was barely an inconvenience.
It wouldn’t matter they both taste the same
lol!
@@titanbmc i agree to disagree, the human part of the mermaid is definetly better than tuna
Finally not another love story but friendship and show of humanity
Modern times we would capture it and make sure it can't escape and basically use the genes to splice our so the whole human population is immortal
@@hernanperez5737 dont forget about invading that lost city, not learning anything about it in the process and just destroy, destroy, destroy
It was kinda a love story but I get what you mean.
i too as a history fan get irritated when period pieces dont have accurate clothing (especially when the budget is clearly high enough) but imagine being pressed over the clothes not being realistic enough when they're literally showing magic fish people that live in the ocean and can give humans immortality. but nah the dresses are too unrealistic 🤣
It would've been Immersive if they at leasy tried to make it look 17th century but instead we got 21st century looking people thats all it just throws you off
Yes but also mermaids and Atlantis don’t exist (as far as we know) XD, but yeah it did annoy me too
im just here to enjoy this magic fantasy set up tbh
I know it's a fantasy movie, but the loose hair and the crazy makeup are very distracting!
Their musical notation was as if it was done today except it didn't look like that back in the 1400's lol
The doctor tells the girl that her arm is broken but instead offering to reset the arm and place it in cast, he tells her the standard procedure for dealing with a broken arm is amputation. Where did this butcher sorry I meant doctor go to medical school?
Most medial knowledge was learned in the past century or two.
Up until the 1900's the common way to relieve a headache was to drill a hole in the skull to release pressure. Heck, most anything that women did that was seen as "unlady-like" including mental health issues would be declared as "hysteria" and an excuse to send a woman to an asylum to get her out of the public eye and save her family's reputation. It was even used instead of divorce since divorce was looked down on until recently.
The broken bone could splinter and cause an infection, the infection could spread, then the whole body would become ill. They seen it as saving the rest of the body at the loss of an arm and a young noble woman didn't need her arms other than to appear normal for courting but as she is the king's daughter men would overlook it.
@@scook449
I sometimes wonder how the future will view our medical knowledge centuries from now. There is a scene in star Trek where Dr Mckoy visits Chekov in a 21st Century hospital after he falls from the roof of a building after they time travel. The Earth doctor explains to McCoy that he needs to drill holes in his head to perform an operation to relieve the pressure but Dr Mckoy with his advanced medical knowledge thinks that doctor is just a butcher. There is a famous line where he says put away your butcher knife and let me treat this man. He even mentioned that there are dealing with medievalism lol.
The doctors in that time thought there were during the right think but in the future they would probably laugh at how we used to cut open patients to work on them. Here is the scene if you are interested,
To see the scene paste in "Dr McCoy" and start from 2 min mark. I found it hilarious.
So people were foolish and men were jerks in the middle ages. What is new?
Thats how it was back then
Hi doctor, I fell and bruised my head
Doctor: That’s okay, as standard procedure we will have to amputate it
this is the reason why the mermaids hide from us
Yes, along with the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, near the unicorns
All mysteries should stay that way, we can be a greedy and cruel race.
We don't deserve anything
@@David-cc8xe You must be fun at parties
That's why in fantasy settings where there are many more superior species, the weak humans can only win with numbers. Humans simply don't deserve to be at the top of the food chain or they'll self-destruct faster than they can revitalise the world.
Him not taking the shot as a realization of he needs to do better as a personbut as “now I have to kill a mermaid so I can live forever” is hilarious
This is based on a book - book was much better done, and things are explained differently - well because things are different in general, but still, the movie still looks like a good story too.

Wish there was more in depth story about the mermaids
This sounds like a fun and lovely film. I get a little tired of everything trying to be so dark and revolutionary these days.
King Louis could have avoided the expensive mermaid fishing expedition by visiting the nearest branch of "Mermaids are Us". Every fantasy tale usually has one 🙃🙂

My friends and I were laughing throughout the whole movie. It’s so cliche and random that it’s badly good.
What’s it called, I don’t see the title anywhere. Did I miss it?
the king’s daughter
Anyone knows the tittle please??
I highly recommend reading the book instead. It’s called the Sun and Moon and came out way back in 1997.
Oh yea the medicine back then ha i still can't get over the amazement at fact that the human species survived those times, adding to the fact that there was a time when people were literally afraid of water and soap, and surgeries performed on babies without any anesthesia because they believed that babies don't have yet a fully developed nervous system ergo they don't feel pain
The fact that Rothschild had 7 heart transplants trying to do exactly this must’ve been an inspiration for this.
It was Rockefeller who had the heart transplants
Hope to see and befriend a mermaid in this lifetime.. 🧜
imagine trusting a friend and used you as a shield
She used the mermaid as a shield to save her life because they would have shot the mermaid otherwise
This feels like a Barbie movie and I love it
And this is why the only memorable mermaid movie will always be "The Little Mermaid".
Aquamarine too💙✨
Splash was cute for its time.
Seeing the mermaids and the city at the end of the movie makes me excited to see the little mermaid live action
"An underground river that brings water from the ocean"
AH, is this a chekov's gun I detect?
I’m SO SAD this was delayed for so long! (It wrapped in 2014, so it should have been released around 2015]. It would have had a star position in _every_ CosTuber’s “Top 10 Least Accurate Period Dramas” if it had. THEY FILMED IT AT VERSAILLES!!! But dressed the girls in 2010’s _prom dresses_
Ugh, this is worse than _Reign_ somehow. And I feel bad dunking on the specifics because the production was obviously plagued with issues. Why were the sets so good but the costumes so bad? Even the CGI looks good for the era :(
Maybe they had a fantastic propmaster/set designer but horrible costume master?
Because it takes place in a fantasy universe where there is no idea of "accurate time period clothing" because it's...gasp... fantasy.
Awe I liked that Reign show, it was different though bc of the music and the gorgeous dresses.
I like reign and don't forget this is a fantasy movie. Anything goes to fantasy.
@@catherineervin2630 Its not the fact that its innaccurate but the fact it doesn't capture the essence of versailles during the sun kings reign they could've done that and put their own spin on it
I really like the ending. The King tried to make up for it. That is a good decision
This just gave me a lot of content I can use for my dnd game which I've been trying to craft a story for as a side quest for some of my players who are pursuing a hook I only had key points for.

Thank you so much for this video - I’ve been so curious about this film but didn’t want to sit through the whole thing.
Getting mermaids is super easy, barely an inconvenience. Getting mermaids in your palace is tight!
I was literally at that exact palace, The Palace of Versailles, just a few weeks ago, The nostalgic is kicking in real hard, oh the memories, I wish I could go back to the wonderful golden palace
The actor playing Yves would make a great younger Qui-Gon Jinn
This is SO straight to video, haha The mermaid effects are really good but the rest is so silly, those actors must have needed the money badly.
Needed the money ? Pierce Brosnan ?
This movie was wrapped in 2014...
@@Janedoesasmr1 Yeah what was he doing in 2014? He's been in a few terrible movies, given what they normally make actors seem to spend quite hard. You can't tell me it was the script that got him into this versus the money.

As a cello player, I don't know what's annoying me more, the shape of the cello or the way it's incorrectly being played the way she holds the cello as she plays, the way some of the instrument players hold their bows, where the bows are being played or so many other details that are just wrong

Well... story, hairstyle, costumes, names of some characters, musical instruments, guns, Louis the XIVth painting and creating a duke ex nihilo. I never watched something more inaccurate.
😂 right? Obviously it’s a movie but like dang!! Why dont u just make up a fantasy world instead?
Atrocious. They didn't show even show any snippet of Louis dancing.
(Edit: What in Lully's name did they just call a cello?)
I mean it wasn't meant to be
Fantasy is what it is. What did you expect. It was only inspired by, not a historically accurate reiteration or let alone based on a true story.
Oh my gosh another vulnerable guy. Stop that blabbering and see this is a fantasy movie.
I had no idea that King Louis spoke English with an Irish accent!
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣
Has that classic 1980s love novel featuring Dollar Tree Fabio as King Louis. 🙃 For a moment I seriously thought there was going to be some incest between Louis and his daughter based on how people looked at them and how he was teaching her to dance and such. The only thing that literally saved this film was the mermaid. 🧜🧜♀
Not THE Pierce Brosnan being referred to as the "Dollar Tree Fabio"
Ohh of course you would.

Theodore Roosevelt:
You and I are not so different
These costumes are beautiful
Not really some where but the rest looked cheap and weird
I was thinking the opposite lol. Different taste I guess.
William Hurt 😭😭 Such an amazing actor.
I cannot decide if it's naivety or sheer stupidity, but the only thing fascinating about this story is the female protagonist's due diligence on the delusion that she could ever hold such value that she could brazenly emotionally manipulate and give ultimatums to people to get whatever she wants. Like father, like daughter, it seems.
Whats the background music?
That is the least-flamboyantly dressed Louis XIV I have ever seen.
Exactly he looked like a regular person I understand that this is fiction but couldn't they get someone who matched his vibe
@@carolinpurayidom4570 somehow I found it the most inaccurate thing about this movie. Louis XIV needs to have a 50 lb suit and high heel shoes all the time.

For anyone curious, this movie is based on a 1997 book called the Sun and the Moon by Vonda N. McIntyre. It actually won the Nebula Award for best science fiction/fantasy novel that year, beating out A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin!

This would have been better if they atleast used King Louis the 15th who actually had an assassination attempt.
