This was true gift.. Modzizer repertoire is just the best.. every nigun is inspired by Ha'Shem. The children's voices were so special, beautiful and joyous!
evangeline douros All these dance tunes, waltzes, marches, and lengthy devotional songs were composed by the rabbinic leaders of the Hassidic dynasty of Modzitz (a suburb of Warsaw). In addition to being saintly and scholarly rabbis, each of them inherited the gene for extraordinary musical talent, with each of them composing hundreds of incredible tunes in their lifetimes. Besides being exquisite musical compositions, these also convey a tremendous amount of emotion and spiritual uplift. Indeed, you do not have to be Hassidic, or even Jewish, to love Modzitz.
Truly unparalleled in todays world. Thanks. This amazing venue indeed conveys the uniqueness of chassidic music in all its art and depth. The great Modzitzer rebbes z”l, with their otherworldly musical genius, were able to create musical compositions to describe and portray their innermost thoughts and feelings, and paint for their chassidim the deep meditative meanings of any religious moment. A niggun can indeed tell the story in a mindful way words will never be able to. Take for instance the niggun composed by the great Reb Shaul Yedidye Z”l for the bris-milah of his son Hershel in 1937 (heard here at 40:34, sung so eloquently by Reb Pinchas Orlander). It was most likely composed in less than eight days before the bris. And it includes the emotions of joy, fear and awe, and all of the love involved in the experience of bringing a neonate into the covenant of Avrohom Avinu. Same is with the Benie Heichulu that follows right after, 47:37, sung so artistically by Reb Aron Orlander, which was composed in the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust. To the listening ear, this majestic piece tells the whole story of the devastation and rebuilding. The first opera, sung meticulously by Reb Duvid Bick, is heard at 1:38:12. It’s a deeply meditative and moving piece of music, which is occasionally played with a violin at they yearly yahrtziet se’uda of Reb Shaul Yedidye z”l at the Modzitzer shtieble on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn. Wow. This video is a glimpse into the inner workings of the chassidim's minds and hearts in real time. Thank you! 1
I've viewed this video many times, as I do with all Modzitzer videos on RUclips, mostly so that I can learn some of the niggunim that I did not yet know. My only complaint is the failure to note the composers, years, and other relevant info on each piece, which makes it easier to track and recall a niggun later on, instead of just having it listed merely as "lively niggun." If a true Modzitzer expert could make a list with any such info available, I'm sure there would be many, who like me, would be very grateful. I will begin the list with the info on niggunim that I do know. If anyone can kindly add additional info in a response, I will update the list for the benefit of all the viewers and listeners. Jackie Paredes They are not singing any lyrical music, just humming tunes basically. A lot of Hassidic music is very basic as it was a movement that was born in 18th century that attracted primarily poor peasant Jews with little to no education so the sophistication of music isn’t what we see in other cultures of same period.
