    Alligator Gars, can live in both fresh water up the Mississippi and live in salt water in the gulf of Mexico and can travel as far north as Cape Cod. Fish that can transition between salt and fresh water and back again are known as euryhaline fish.

    These Gars have been known to battle Alligators. I have heard of them growing to nine feet, rather than twelve, but I am sure some do get that big. They are still fascinating fish, but should never be kept by beginners or in Aquarium smaller than 125 gallons. I love watching all the fish you have rescued. Thanks for sharing. My thoughts and prayers are with Tracy🙏🙄❤️

    I had a redtail swallow an alligator gar. The catfish was about 32" and the gar was 15". Never thought it was possible! Redtails will literally put anything in their mouth. And they're quite vocal when pulled out of the water sometimes sounding like a sea lion barking! Large iridescents do too.

      I’d love to see a quick underwater video of Bill in the pond in one of your videos soon! I remember petting Bill in Antonio’s pond years back and he would come straight to the surface to be pet, such an awesome, personable fish!Antonio and Bill are the reason I got into monster fish. Of all the fish y’all have he’s definitely my personal favorite! In the next few months I plan to bring y’all 2 of monster cats that are outgrowing they’re winter housing, during the summer they live in my 4,000gal koi pond here in NC. By this fall they’ll be pushing 44”+ each. Ive had one about 3 years with a small gap in between. But it’s gonna be time for a larger home for them very soon. One is a TSN x Achara Catfish that is 39”, and the other is a 42” Ripsaw. The Hybrid I raised from 1” to 13”, rehomed him when I moved out of state, ended up getting him back and having him shipped down 6 months later due to him eating my ex’s alligator gar. He was 22” at that time, a year later he has exploded in growth and when I measured him in November he was 39” long. The Ripsaw someone actually dumped in my pond without me knowing, I’m not sure how long he was in there before I noticed him, as he rarely is seen. I found him under a ledge cleaning the pond this past summer. Amazing such a large fish can go unseen for who knows how long. But regardless, I think Ohio Fish Rescue will be the perfect forever home for these fish if you all would like them. We have a beautiful Platinum Butterfly that is over 15 years old! I haven’t measured her but she’s easily 27” long not including her giant long tail! Her and a male normal colored common carp with butterfly koi fins have bred in my pond 2 or 3 times this past year! They were local rescues as well from a local drainage ditch on the side of my road after the hurricane last year. I’d love to donate them to the rescue as well if Tracy would like to add them to her wonderful collection!

    loved the video, absolutely gorgeous fish😍. I dont own fish anymore but i used to have alot, amongst which were 4 catfishes that a store sold me and they claimed they were wild caught and they didnt know what they were, they then went on to say they could not really house them anymore so i got them fairly cheap, one turned out a bit smaller than the other 3 eventually and had to be held separate, they were insane eaters and fun watching em gobble food pellets, but they were quite fun, theyd follow my every move if i was walking near the tank as well as my fingers if they were moving along the glass, but something i loved most about em was that if i put my hand in the tank theyd come up to it and go belly up for a “bellyrub”. They grew super fast but i had a nice tank setup for em so that was ok, they were amaZing fish though, I loved all my fish but those were possibly my favorites, along with a black molly female i had that grew to almost double size that was nuts too, I really miss the hobby so so much.

      oh yeah one time dad caught a pike while fishing and he thought hed play a joke on me by testing when i would spot it being in there with my cats, needless to say i wasnt all that pleased with the fish just being dumped in there from him catching it from a river, but most sad thing was that the pike was a tiny bit smaller than the cats and fell victim to them before i got up and saw the shenanigans, so by the time i was feeding my tanks the pike was reduced to a head, i immediately took that out ofcourse and put the tank in quarantine but it was alright.

      @@ohio-fish-rescue Oh,they do. Just that like all other leaping fish..they have miles of water around them-lol. Put those little hatchet fish in an open aquarium and they will all end up on the ground sooner and not much later. But,they have lived millenia in the wild.
      If you ever did need to cover? Maybe those portable chain link fences around the pool?..6' tall would stop most fish. Paint them green or something. You could leave enough room to walk inside all around the pool..and room for fish to flop back into the pool. Just an idea.
      I hate when I lose fish to accidents. Like stuck behind a rock...desease is one thing..you know?

    • @duneydan7993
      @duneydan7993 2 года назад +1

      Yes and no.
      They are both fishes, that's all.
      Let me explain.
      The groupe of fishes that gars are members of separated from the groupe of fishes that contains pikes (and most other fish species) +/- 300 millions years ago.
      To give you an evolution time scale, Mammals separated from reptiles also +/- 300 millions years ago.
      Gars and pikes are both fishes but they are as related to each other as you are related to a lizard.
      Hope that answer your question!
