    R.I.P. Mike Maples 3/5/2019.....Mike had a wealth of knowledge about Cades Cove, the Smokies, and Gatlinburg area...Big loss to the History

      Hate to hear he passed away! Can I ask what happened to him? I have learned a lot from his videos. My family on my mom's side are all from the Cove.

      @@BigRandyR passed away March 5th 2019 at age 66 from a short fight with brain cancer...Lots of questions I still wanted to ask him...

      @@ronnieriggs394 I appreciate the response. I hate to hear it, hope he didn't suffer, seemed like a great guy.
      Me and 2 of my son's was up at tremont back a few years ago during a snow and I think I met and talked with him, he was hiking alone and I asked a question about a trail and he took the time to teach me about a few, and told me one to stay off of with my bad knees. I'm 99% sure it was him and I wish I would of asked.

      Levi Trentham was my 1st Cousin (5 times removed). His mother was a Fancher, and she was my great great great grand aunt and sister of my great great great grandfather, also a Levi.
