Heavy crasher tip: I run my doubletake's with the adjuster handles facing the front of the bike so they don't catch and grab onto loose parts of my riding gear on my way down. Trust me when I say that crashing is slightly less comfortable when your arm is bonded to the mirror arm as you're heading quickly to the floor. As me how I know LOL.
The funniest thing is that I rode with Tall Man this weekend. He slid out his front end with some snow and ice. He was upset about the attachment adapter on the old system....until he saw on his video that it was his foot that kicked it and broke the adapter..This system will keep that from happening....Thank you for the video Ben.
Doubletake needs to invest in better glass in their mirrors. One trip and you start to see fine scratches all over the glass no matter how careful you are. Also, a clamp at each end works way better than a single clamp in the middle. You want to be able to adjust the mirror without messing where you have the arm set.
AHA! I have also put a set of doubletakes on every adv/dual sport i've ever owned. I didn't even know there was a new revision of them, so *thank you* for the heads up!
Best mirrors ever. Hey Ben I found a ram ball made by Tripleclampmoto out of Toronto area. They are billet aluminum with a rubber gromet and have a wrenchable base. Genius
I just got a set of these mirrors and used your video to help me install. I'm glad they included the reverse hardware for my Yamaha and I didn't have to go searching for any adapters. These mirrors feel substantial and I like how they adjust so easy. Thanks for the video!
They are the best and on all my bikes. Can’t wait to get these although hoping my pretty new ones last awhile. Appreciate ya Dork! I’ll use your link when I do buy. 🏍️💨
Thanks Ben for that great product video. I’m looking to get these on both of my bikes thank you. They look great. It looks like they function really well.
I've got 2 bikes with Double Take V1 mirrors, and while I absolutely love them, I can also attest that the handlebar side loosening more than you'd like while adjusting can be annoying. Glad to see they improved on this iteration.
You can fix that simply by flipping the arm around. One side opens more because it's spring loaded, so if you put that side that the mirror attaches to, it solves that problem immediately
Thanks for the tour. Ive used Reevu helmet since 2014 and its a mess of shedding particles and duct tape. So wish they made more. But no. So Im getting ready to replace that helmet with a new one and some rear view mirrors that actually work

Hey Ben, so cool to know you live in OR like me! Quick random question: where did you route the cables for your heated grips back on your KLR650? I got the same grips and I know you mentioned in a video that you didn’t take the tank off for the install. Just curious what side of the bike you routed the cables through? Thanks for the awesome videos, hope to cross paths with you someday soon!
"Crushing Balls" is no good except maybe in this case it would keep your mirror from moving easy. The "reverse thread, crap" is probably so the mirror will not loosen or will so it don't break. The new one without the soft Balls may not be as good but thanks for testing all this stuff for everyone! Can't wait to see more DR650 videos because I'm a big guy also! Any chance a DR is in the near future? I would want a DRZ also where you live but Ohio is mostly back roads or an hour ride to a place to ride (with back injuries I want mild instead of wild adventure)so dirt roads would be great as long as we are allowed on them.
Hi, just inquiring as to what you are using for a windshield extension on your 790? Puig clamp on or something else? Also, do you like whatever it is you’re using? Love your channel, thank you for all your honest feedback on bikes and gear.
Please tell me what brand of tubular metal handguards you have on this bike (they appear to go around the plastic hand guards). Excellent video. Ordering double take mirrors for two bikes.
I recently dropped my Transalp in the garage. It was not running. It broke off both stock mirrors's mounts after hitting the doors of the workbench that was on the right side to the bike The mirrors and their arms were unmarked and displayed no visual damage. But the lever perch mounts to the handlebars were the mirror adapter threads into the female threaded hole snapped off for both mirrors. The weakest point I guess. The bike fell to the right side with the mirriors hitting the doors of the workbench that was on the right side to the bike. I was standing on the left side and could not hold the bike up once it started to tilt too far over away from to the its right. I was fortunate that was all the damage to the bike plus the right handguard shield was scuffed. I did try to slow its decent as it fell onto the cement floor. There was no mark on the Hepco Becker skidplate or lower crashbar. The right perch clamp for the braker master cylinder is back ordered. I easily use a 90 degree piece of bracket metal from HomeDepot to make a mounting bracket with a few small washers and longer bolts.
Nice! On your 450L, were you able to put the 'old' Doubletakes where you wanted them? I unfortunately can't, due to my riding position and the range of motion in the upper ball/mirror. They still work, but I have to lean back to really see them. Wondering if the redesign would address this.
I don’t know, man I feel like they just wanted to break away from the ram mounts proprietary connection. I think the Jury’s actually still out. Also, the company really needs to get it together on exactly what model you order at the present time in which model you receive at the present time there seems to be some confusion
I prefer the Touratech on the ADV bike since I seldom remove the mirrors or even fold them down. They stay in place better, are less bulky, and if you want to fold them in its' just a quick flip back and forth and don't have to re-adjust when you return to the folded-out position. With typical ADV bike tip overs they just fold in if the bike even falls over enough touch them. I think the Doubetake are better for dual sport bikes where if you take it off road where mirrors aren't required it's easier to just pop them off all together and they seem more robust for more extreme crashes or if you hit a branch at speed, etc. But I can never get them to fully hold the position when adjusted no matter how hard I torque them down, and then when you do need to adjust it's kind of a pain. I break it down too, if you like using mirrors, use the Tourtech, if you just have a mirror to meet legal requirements, double take, somewhere in the middle just have to consider those factors.
I tried the touratech mirrors, and found them completely unusable for highway speeds - they shook so bad I couldn't see anything in them. The doubletake mirrors have no such stability issues at freeway speeds.
The good news is that all the constant upgraders are going to be selling their old setups cheap on the used market. I have never bought new Double Take mirrors but I have several sets of them. They also are NOT indestructible, as proven by me.
I would like to have a lighter version of this mirror on my "gravel bike" (powered by parallel legs). I've actually sent them an e-mail about the possibility but I didn't get a response.
I use double take mirrors on every bike.. can just buy the balls for your bikes..I own 4 ..so I just remount the one set of mirrors I have on what ever bike I ride that day.. so easy.. plus the best looking and you can always see behind you just moving your eyes not having to turn or move your head ever.. !!!!!!!!!
Wow, cool mirrors. *Goes to buy online: $225.00 CAD....Wow, my stock mirrors are looking swell! They may be good, but c'mon man that is insane for some plastic and glass. "Free Coozie" ya just to mock you for paying that much.
Not entirely indestructible… The glass broke in mine when the front tire slid out in a turn on gravel. Most likely, I had them tightened down too much, as I’d never loosened them after the highway ride to the location. Fortunately, Double Take has replacement glass available for a very reasonable price, and it’s fairly easy to replace.
Somewhere on the website they say something to the effect of everything’s guaranteed except the glass. They said they tried using singing unbreakable, but that it scratched too easily, so they stayed with glass.
I use these mirrors..the "old" version. I understand these "new" ones are "new" but I fail to see why they are "better". So what if the ball gets a weird shape. It doesn't affect the performance of the mirror. So what if the arm is longer. Longer and shorter arm are available online from many manufacturers, including RAM Mounts. The weight is negligible. So why are they "better"? Companies have to make thigs "better" so we buy new things, like mtn bikes and ski equipment and so many other things.
So if I have read this right, Double Take have gone from using a tried and tested KNOWN and reputable product in RAM mounts and then copied the idea, and made their product incompatible with RAM products thereby forcing you to buy yet more of their "proprietary" product and no doubt charging an arm and a leg in the process?
Just to clarify, this is not an "upgrade" specifically. RAM Mount started making their own mirrors so Doubletake decided to copy the RAM ball and socket design and sell their own arms and balls. Personally, I'd rather spend my money on a tried and trusted (almost 30 years of design and engineering) RAM Mount solution, but each to their own.
I get what you saying, but I just did the upgrade too and to my mind the new arms and balls are definitely functionally way better than the old ram balls and arms. The old ram balls on mine were actually cracking, hopefully the new upgraded ball part is more durable.
Am I the only one who thinks these are too expensive for what they are? They’re just mirrors. I bought some copycat ones on Amazon recently and they are surprisingly great.
I did too, but they don’t have the same features, articulation, visibility, and durability as these. Sure, they work, they’re cheap and they will get the job done for most of us. But once you have these, you understand why they cost more. And yes, like everything else, they are too expensive.
Fair enough. The ones I got recently look exactly the same so only time will tell. Probably DT is $$$ due to made in USA which is good. But I live overseas and shipping is cheap with Amazon.
@@vinerwe oh, they look exactly the same? That’s not what I have. Mine are more like the smaller ones like on Bens 300 Rally. Except mine have triangular shaped mirrors not the round one. And they don’t fold all the way down like the ones on Bens Rally,. What you have sounds like direct clones. Ive never seen those. They are probably better than I thought then. Perhaps slightly less quality? I don’t know. But When it comes to clones that’s what I’m use to getting. Last year I bought a pair of direct clones of some Revit Sand gloves for half the price as the authentic pair. I thought for sure I got a steal because they are real leather, and built very well. Except the first time I got them wet, the touchscreen capability was loss. I wasn’t too happy about that.,
Gave them a try. Total garbage. The WILL NOT stay in position, they fall almost immediately. I have tightened the clamp to the point of squishing the rubber ball flat. Worthless.
Oh, but wait! Double take mirrors are made in the USA, so according to your last video, they don't care about quality or customer satisfaction... Isn't that what you said?
No it really, really isn't what I said. I said that when American companies say they want to do good more than they want to profit, they're generally full of shit. I never said anything about quality or customer service.
OR...and try to keep up here...maybe I just like the product and feel good recommending it to people? Maybe it's a product I've used for years and think is a good solution to a common issue with these bikes? Nah...you're right. I'm just a sellout. I'll try and never ever show any products from any company on the channel again. It's the only way to be sure.

As a 70-80% trail/off road rider the powermadd mini mirrors mounted to handguards are infinitely better than double take mirrors. Double takes are massive and always get in the way no matter what position they’re in. Plus turning your head to look for cars or whatever is behind you is the way it should be done
I get the idea... kind of, but no way in hell I could ride in L.A. (or anywhere else on a paved public road) without mirrors, which I am routinely checking looking for people doing stupid things behind me (and Teslas. I do everything in my power to not be in front of a damn Tesla for any length of time). There are things I could never see "just" looking over my shoulder (which is second nature). Not to mention being stopped at a red light... looking for that person that isn't going to stop (I'm not an owl after all).
That’s why I seriously considered just using the little round mirrors that attach to the hand guards, because I do look over my shoulder all the time anyway.

“” SVELTER””
good one😂
Svelte Wow! Mr Dork
Wow, cool mirrors. *Goes to buy online: $225.00 CAD....Wow, my stock mirrors are looking swell! They may be good, but
c'mon man that is insane for some plastic and glass. "Free Coozie" ya just to mock you for paying that much.
Aliexpress has knockoffs for like $40 that are basically the same, probably come out of the same RAM factory lol...
The new ones are better (got a new set on the Norden) much much better mirrors
The move to non-standard ball size just seems like a backwards move.
Great update :)
Really like these but at $165 for a set including shipping and tax that just prices me out of the game for mirrors.
Not entirely indestructible… The glass broke in mine when the front tire slid out in a turn on gravel. Most likely, I had them tightened down too much, as I’d never loosened them after the highway ride to the location.
Fortunately, Double Take has replacement glass available for a very reasonable price, and it’s fairly easy to replace.
the mirrors are guaranteed. Did they not replace them for you?
Somewhere on the website they say something to the effect of everything’s guaranteed except the glass. They said they tried using singing unbreakable, but that it scratched too easily, so they stayed with glass.
“Something,” not “singing” 🥴
That may be in their glass replacement how-to video, but I don’t recall, at the moment.
Very cool. Only problem is now i need to re-fit all my bikes. Haha. Oh and first comment.
Wish they didn't cost $150. Nice but overengineered for what is ultimately a flat reflective piece of glass.
I specifically asked the company if they had a new name or new model designation for the new version and they gave me a dumb non-answer
This is the next accessory I'm putting on my bike. Tired of looking at my shoulders in the mirrors.
Seems like they just wanted to get in on the arm purchase rather than leave it for RAM.
I'm sure that's part of it, but they also wanted to be able to guarantee the whole unit rather than just the mirror.
I wasn’t too happy about that.,
Itchy Boots proved they are not indestructible.
Super functional but I struggle with ruining the aesthetics of my beautiful bike by sticking two big frankfurters on my bars
No more crushed balls ! Hallelujah !
Sure, release a new version just after I bought the previous :(
"ItchyBoots" will show you just how destructable they are in real life! She's broken at least two so far...!
Stock 790 mirrors break real easy ask me how I know…
I found them on AliExpress at $40 ... what is the reason of paying $145 ????? 😂😂😂
Gave them a try. Total garbage. The WILL NOT stay in position, they fall almost immediately. I have tightened the clamp to the point of squishing the rubber ball flat. Worthless.
Anyone follow Moto Giant? Prayers for his accident injuries... they're bad.
You have to say "that's not going anywhere" or it will come off
Oh, but wait!
If ya 3d print that plastic ball outta steel, it'd last forever, just like stuff usta....
3D print steel? That’s not a desktop version....
Whatta shame… so much for content.. you’re now a schill for any company that sends you free stuff… unsubscribed…

Based on the number of your videos concerning your off road riding “abilities” or lack there of, you’d be better off on a TTR… Now if you had a substantial racing resume’ or successfully traversed the Amazon jungle, Sahara or Russian Tundra, or a bare minimum the TAT west of Colorado, your viewers would be more inclined to give your product “reviews” a greater degree of credibility….but you haven’t …. What’s next , your take on the best treadmill out there ? It’s all about establishing credibility. An educated viewer would place more credibility on , let’s say, an off road tire if Steward Baylor, or Trystan Hart where conducting an review… or better yet , Graham Jarvis on how to tackle a log, not BRM on a $40k BMW GS…The vast majority of ADV riders are posers, their off road adventures are relegated to fire/dirt roads with an occasional 3” puddle..all while sporting a $1000 6D helmet and bathed in Klim gear from head to toe… pure posers whose bragging rights are best found at the local pub…not the trail…
@@DorkintheRoad and you delete my rebuttable…did I strike a nerve?…. Obviously. As a 70-80% trail/off road rider the powermadd mini mirrors mounted to handguards are infinitely better than double take mirrors. Double takes are massive and always get in the way no matter what position they’re in. Plus turning your head to look for cars or whatever is behind you is the way it should be done
My DT mirrors are rubbish, they get blown over at 120kph…. Total junk
Using a shifting spanner on your bike...... 😮 You butcher...😅😅😅
I drive without mirrors. It forces me too look over the shoulder and dont trust what I see in the mirror
Great mirrors…..but why so UGLY. A bit of form over function would be nice
