- We're on a mission to go Behind The Wall with The Greatest Creatives in Music, Welcome to Episode 2! And in this episode we are meeting with the one and only Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic...
Ryan Tedder is one of the biggest singers & songwriters in the world, but you may not know his name. Yet, you probably know his 100 million record selling band which is currently the 4th most streamed group on Spotify: OneRepublic. And you may also know the hit songs he’s written with and for Adele, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Blackpink, Selena Gomez, Leona Lewis, and so many more. But what I bet almost no one knows is that Ryan was actually too scared to sing in front of people and too afraid to put his music out. So How? How did Ryan go from a scared kid to one of the biggest singers and songwriters in the world? Well, its about time we find out because my name is Daniel Wall and we’re going Behind The Wall with the one and only, Ryan Tedder! Love everything about this video ❤ I took Ryan's songwriting class 2 years back, wrote my best song yet, it's gotten 200k on Spotify, quit my job to focus on music full time and I'm still going. I'm scraping by, literally no idea how I'm going to pay rent, but I'm doing what I love doing and praying it works out. Would love for him to hear that song! (it's called "Seven Kisses")

He should be even more popular than he is. One Republic is such a great talent collectively. Drummer, guitarist, bass etc. Ryan is a force with the pen and his melodies. I truly enjoy listening to their music. There is not a song l do not like. I have songs of theirs that mean something to me. I lived for one. I grew up in a small town where a girl l went to school with, died at 16 of cystic fibrosis. She was a very nice person.

Lot of insight and gold here. thank you very much! Ryan is 100% right here, when he says the streams don't mean much. Because writers were never at the bargaining table between spotify and record companies. As a writer myself, I've had a handful of songs that have 8 digit streams. The sad thing is, 1 million views on youtube equate to about $63.85 USD in royalties directly to me as the composer. 1 million views is not a small number, but the idea that the royalties would barely cover a celebrating dinner with my other half is sad. Where the royalties are at, are radio, TV, and performance (especially at concerts). I've also felt that writing has become much more difficult in the last few years, with tiktok and reels, songs become more about marketing sensations than music melodies/stories. Hearing how even Ryan Tedder is needing to write 5x more songs to get only part as much success he got 5-10 years ago, lets me know, I'm not alone.
OneRepublic has been robbed of Grammys time and time again. It seriously breaks my heart. Ryan Tedder writes his own music, has written for other artists, and yet he barely has any awards. The music industry is so unfair. 💔

Loved this video, there’s something about Ryan that I find very entertaining, the way he talks so eloquently, like he doesn’t even think what to say, it all just come out so naturally. The way he has an answer for everything instantly, so wise. And also the way he tells every story, like one of those teachers at school you loved to hear them because of the passionate way the tell everything. Very good video ❤
As he started listing his first big hits, I realized that all his songs were a part of me falling in love with specific parts of music; and it's all parts he played in. Tedder is King.
Love Ryan, and love OneRepublic. Seen them a couple times in concert, and its always a good time. His voice is amazing, he's an underrated talent (and the entire band is IMO) and honestly their music is just fun and energetic. Great interview.

Keep this vibe/format/whatever !been watching you since you began - I am the same brother and enjoy how you take the extra effort in your comparisons and weave in some story and context. All the little tweaks here and there all create big differences. Knowing what really goes on is awesome and being able to have conversations that are real just, normal. Is great. I like the fact that Ryan keeps re-inventing the way OneRepublic sounds. You really can expect new music from every new album they’re gonna release, it’s never the same. Plus, his voice has an amazing range (5 octaves), it’s incredible how he’s capable to hit the keys even when performing live, jumping and running around almost all the time! And he’s a genuinely nice human being, that’s why I wish him all the best, even if he does stupid things, sometimes… like having a decent haircut, finally again - but spoiling it at the same time by bleaching it 😂
