- Опубликовано: 6 июн 2024
- In todays video I'm going to rank the classic era of Europe (1979-1992). Europe is a Swedish hard rock band formed as Force by Joey Tempest and John Norum in Upplands Väsby a suburb to Stockholm. They album debuted in 1983 with their self-titled record. Their popularity grew with Wings of Tomorrow but it was of course The Final Countdown that made them world famous. Out of this World and Prisoners in Paradise was also highly successful hard rock albums. So in todays video we're going to rank the albums from the classic era of Europe. Enjoy!

Stay Heavy! Cheers!
Their newer output is just as good as the classic stuff. Appreciate the love for such a talented band.
Maybe so, but it's more Rock and that's not really my thing.
Easily. They’re fantastic. I’m shocked he doesn’t like them as they’re all critically acclaimed, they’re heavier than all the early albums too. The first two included as it’s just power metal, not that heavy. I’d almost question that he’s even really given them enough chance. Very odd. His opinion though
I'm not that much into modern rock. If I'm going to listen to rock I prefer like 70s rock. But it's rare that I listen to that stuff these days. I don't think that opinion is that odd. Most people I know was fans of Europe back in the day but they don't care about what they do today. I've seen them live a couple of times and they do a good job but most albums I just don't care about.
@@RuthlessMetalYT Yep as I said. It’s your opinion. I just don’t agree. Your channel is awesome though
No. The new stuff is boring and the production sucks. It sounds so 70´s.
I like the clear and crisp sound of the 80´s way better.
Also Joey's voice is nowhere near as it was in the 80's, early 90's.
Wings of tomorrow is an amassing album. This has always been my favorite Europe album.
🤘🤘
I was surprised to see Europe here.
It was a nice surprise, for it was Europe that brought me to Metal in the long run, so I have a soft spot in my heart for them.
Wings of Tomorrow was the first album that I owned, so it has a special place in my heart. And I really like Out of this World.
I also like the new albums.
And JOhn Norum has some interesting stuff.
Yeah, one of the first bands I've heard too even if they never were a favourite band of mine. But I had a cassette as a kid with Europe on one side and KISS on the other. :D 🤘
I wouldn't have explored Europe without the video cheers.
Yeah, it's easy to conclude them as just some sort of Journey or Boston sounding band. This song is cool: ruclips.net/video/B_IlWunU6ac/видео.html
I like the guitar tone on that. I saw them at bloodstock about 10 years ago or more, but only caught them near the end, regret it a bit now.@@RuthlessMetalYT
AWESOME RANKING !!!
Cheers!
So cool!
🤘
Next Rank Em All, been waiting a long time for this, that I like to know from this channel are what ar Razor's Albums ranked from worst to best.
Also by any chance would we see a Rank Em All of Best Thrash Albums of the 80s? I like to see that!
yeah, they are definitely on my mind. Can't promise I'll get there but thrash is what I'm most familiar with. :)
I've made yearly lists of thrash records from 1983 to 1997 I think.
I used to hate this kind of crap, but as I get older and pop music gets worse, I appreciate it more and more.
TRUE!
Yeah but early Europe is kinda classic hard rock/heavy metal. Sure they went with more synths and ballads later on but they were always talented musicians and there are good songs on most records.
Crap? 🤔 They are a great band!
I like your channel ruthless, and maybe do a ranking for running wild.
I thought of it, we'll see what happens.
The Final Countdown is number one on my list. 😀👍🎸🤘
He’s nuts for putting it last.
of the classic era, It would probably top all the new ones for me even if I'm not super familiar with those.
Good band-good ranking
Thx, Cheers!
Europe's albums are cool, nice hard rock 😊✌️
Cheers!
Rank Def Leppard next, please. They are considered hair metal by many, but they also had some deep tracks like "Gods of War" and "Die Hard the Hunter" which deal with antiwar issues much like "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath. And "White Lighting" is one of the most powerful songs EVER!
I haven't even heard half of their albums since I don't like 'em. :) Their first two I can listen to the rest makes me wanna tear my ears off. :) 🤘
@@RuthlessMetalYT All the more reason to tear into those stinkers. You blasted a lot of bad metal albums even by bands I loved like Queensryche. You totally justified Geoff Tate being FIRED from the band by doing that. Thank you!
haha. Yeah, but it should be fun listening to music, not torture. :D @@DaleHusband
Great work as always with the list man. STAY HEAVY!
Cheers!
You really missing out imo for not getting into the later albums, in my opinion they are top notch on par with the debut and wings of tomorrow. May be more deep purple classic hard rock style, but War of Kings, Walk the Earth, and Last look at Eden are amazing for me. Wings of Tomorrow is an underrated master piece tho, no comment on that. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I've heard em but there's just nothing there for me. :)
A soft spot in my heart for this band, too, because I was in middle school in 1986 and they were the hardest band on radio or TV along with Bon Jovi, therefore they've been my gateway to heavy metal fandom.
Hehe, those were the days when Bon Jovi was the hardest thing you've heard. ;) haha
Well they were for me too, I was 7 years old in 1986 and its when I first started to listen to rock and metal. I didn’t start with Metallica or Slayer. I started with Bon Jovi, Queen, Def Leppard and Europe.
Nice, I more or less started with Metallica, Guns n' Roses, KISS, Europe and such.
And I want to ask, you plan on doing a rank Em all video on Annihilator
not in the plans right now, we'll see. I haven't listened to most of their records in the last 20 years tbh. I just like the first 2 tbh and one more record. :D
tbh war of kings is a great album i enjoy it on same level as classic era also some songs from other albums like last look at eden are just great
Cheers!
That's pretty much how I'd rank these albums. I think a lot of people are missing out on some great hard rock because they consider them to be nothing but 80's glam. Later stuff is very good also, especially "War Of Kings".
Cheers!
Please do W.A.S.P next
It's so exhausting to do these discographies with 100 albums. :D I don't want to put out a video without fully knowing what I'm talking about so. But maybe some day. :D
Razörfist has a good doc on WASP I think.
the metal mythos. :) Cheers!
Interesting - I never knew they has so many albums.
yeah, they disappeared for 10 years but ever since they have kept releasing 'em. 🤘
The only album I've heard so far is the Final Countdown. I need to find the other Europe albums. I was in high school when I first heard Europe in 1986.
yes, check the first two if you're more of a metal fan than melodic hard rock fan.
I agree 💯
Cheers!
"Out of this world" has maybe the greatest guitar work ever (in the style of melodic hard rock). Kee Marcello certainly had some big shoes to fill after Norums departure. But that's really the only enjoyable thing about the album, since I think it has an even more slick production than TFC.
Overall I would rank them about the same. Maybe switch 5 and 4. It would be really interesting to hear how those albums would have sounded with Tony Reno behind the drums. I think he was important to the "metal"-sound on the first 2 albums.
yeah. good ol Tony Reno. :)
My favourite by them is the debut. I prefer the production on Wings Of Tomorrow but the songs on the debut are great. Europe are cool and its a shame people only know The Final Countdown.
Cheers!
I wish they would do an album like Whitesnake did with "The Purple Album". I´d love to hear the old Europe stuff in a modern way.
Cheers!
I’m always lobbying to metalheads to give the first two albums a chance.
I would probably rank their first 5 albums in chronological order. They are all really close except for the ‘92 release. I only like two tracks off of that album. I totally respect what they’re doing with their current material but like you, I can’t get into the newer stuff either.
Also, I really think this band should be accepted into The Metal Archives based on their first album. It’s stupid that Vandenberg is accepted by MA and Europe is not.
yeah, it's hard to draw the lines. Cheers!
I too have a soft spot for this band. I'm generation X having been born in '75. Europe were one of the first bands I got into when I really started getting into music in the 80's. The first time I heard that keyboard riff in the final countdown I was hooked. Saw them last night in Leicester, they are as good as ever.
same here. cheers!
I LOVE the classic Europe! And I'm a metal head. Not ashamed of it at all!! My favorite album is easily "Prisoners in Paradise"!
Cheers!
One of my favorite Hard Rock band
cheers
Upplands Väsby FTW!
Jajjemän, Sveriges hårdrocksmecka!
It would be really nice if you rank sarcofago or tourniquet albums in future
we'll see. :) Cheers!
Wings of tomorrow is indeed a great record. So I agree to your choice. John Norum delivers workmanship on the six strings. Joey Tempest pleases the ears with catchy vocals. A real classic album you can listen to today and, well, tomorrow. Also the newer records deserves to be named since they are not bad at all.
Cheers!
I also like the 3 most recent albums, but my ranking of the original era goes like this: 5) OOTW, 4) debut, 3) Prisoners, 2) TFC, 1) Wings
Cheers
Meu ranking do Europe ,minha banda favorita .
1 - Out of this world
2 - The final countdown
3 - Europe
4 - Wings of tomorrow
5 - Prisioneirs in Paradise
6 - Start from the Dark
7 - War of Kings
8 - Last look a Eden
9 - Bag of Bones
10 - Walk the Earth
11 - Secret Society não gosto de jeito nenhum, o som não combina nada com a banda, parece nu - metal 👎.
🤘
You nailed the first five! But I would put the last four albums ahead of ”The final countdown”. By the way, the best swedish hard rock/metal release in -84 was not ”Wings of tomorrow”, it was ”The Unknown”, fantastic from start to finish!🤘
indeed, the unknown is number one.
I never knew Europe was a real metal band. I'll endeavour to check them out. IMPALED NAZARENE NEXT
Metal / Hard Rock somewhere in that region. :) Cheers!
Please do Riot V (formerly Riot) albums ranking.
That would be something. Cheers!
ngl. i love TFC. i just cut the title track and carrie out on my bootleg cassette i had.
i cut welcome to the jungle, paradise city and sweet child out of my bootleg AFD, as well.
Cheers!
I think the best they did is the 7" version of Lying Eyes, and the live performance at Rock-SM '82.
great song!
Maybe next rank 'em all from exumer, death angel or helloween?
maybe so. :) I thought of 'em.
Denna lista är den första jag HELT håller med om.. 🤘🤘 P.s Europe rockar röv mer än dom flesta...
Cheers! 🤘
I love their first two albums but I put the debut slightly above Wings.
Yeah they are pretty much equals in my opinion. The debut has some scorchers but the production of wings of tomorrow feels better and it's perhaps the better one overall.
Wings of tomorrow is also my favorite Europe Album
cheers
I love the final countdown and it’s album, wanted to say that for my opinion
Cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT and I look forward to the next rank ‘Em all video
Do a rank em all on death angel! All of there albums!
I might. :)
Can you rank the discography of Praying Mantis?
Nope, never cared much for 'em.
@@RuthlessMetalYT That's ok, cheers anyway!
Gostei da sua classificação, a minha ficaria assim: 1_wings of tomorrow( 1984), 2- Europe( 1983), 3- out of this world( 1988), Prisoners in paradise ( 1991), 5- the final countdown( 1986). Eu gosto dos outros álbuns da banda também.
cheers! 🤘
Treated Bad Again from WOT is on my short list of the best songs of all time.
Cheers
I only own the debut I'll give "Wings of Tomorrow" a shot.
Do it! :) 🤘
@@RuthlessMetalYT done and dusted
What did you think of it? @@independenceltd.
@@RuthlessMetalYT i ordered it. waiting for it to arrive. i'll let u know.👍
The Final Countdown album has unique Metal synthesizer and unique Glam/Blues Metal sound
I have always considered Wings of Tomorrow as a great influence on the style of Swedish metal, in my personal opinion, I can say that the Swedish band Universe's first album seems like a continuation of WOT, many of the song structures are very similar, and it is a shame that Europe couldn't continue on the sound of WOT and today they are a very dull band.
I love that Universe album. Cheers!
Managed to grow up in Sweden without Europe, I did however get infected with Twisted Sister
ah, I thought it was mandatory to like Europe. hehe
Love them or hate them they still a very important band from the 80s...I didn't lik÷ them at all...but sill I know who they are and music they play....so whether you a thrasher like me you still know who they are
yeah, some bands are just too famous. hehe Cheers!
Great video they have some good songs but little to much "pop" for me
yeah, but not that much pop early on. ;) Cheers!
Eüröpe self titled Heavy Metal
debut (1983) is way more heavier than Iron Maiden self titled NWOBHM debut (1980)
take it easy with the alcohol Sir.
@@RuthlessMetalYT thickheads just don't want to accept that it is heavier
@@RuthlessMetalYT thickheads just don't want to accept
@@RuthlessMetalYT it is heavier you just don't want to accept
Ah yes! You would be correct to rank the firat 5 albums and forget the rest as their style had shifted gears. I too was torn between which one was better, the debut or Wings Of Tomorrow. Those are the albums from that band. I wish those would get the re-master treatment as they deserve it.
Yeah. I actually saw their comeback gig in 2004 I think it was. But the new stuff and the occasional stuff I've heard since sounds a bit different too me.

Wings of tomorrow is their best album. I agree. But I disagree with saying that TFC is the worst album from that era. While it had a more aor sound, the title track is one of the best commercial rock songs that you can never get tired.
There are also very good songs like Ninja, Danger on The Track, Rock The Night, Cherokee and Norum's guitar work is amazing there as well! Their weakest album from that era is without a doubt prisoners in paradise. It's just very bloated and the songs apart from s few exception are very boring melodic rock.
My list:
5. PIP
4. Out of this world
3. The Final Countdown
2. Europe
1. Wings of Tomorrow.
Cheerios!
Imperial age
The legacy of atlantis
Concept album
Check it out
Cheers!
😂 who knew this band had more than one album?😅
They got like 20 but hey. :D
by chance saw the title and ....am I wrong here? Since when are rock-pop bands coveredhere. ...is there another band with this name.... I better surf away for today.
Check the first two records, don't get fooled by The Final Countdown and Carrie. Cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT done. and yes, the 2. one has a bit of a softened Saxon sound. But really, not my glass of beer.
I bought their first LP when it was released, and I thought it was "OK," but nothing special. However, their were better Swedish bands (Overdrive, Heavy Load, etc.), so I didn't pay anymore attention to them. Next thing I know is The Final Countdown was a hit. No thanks, didn't like it. Take it easy.
Then you should listen to Wings of Tomorrow.
Yes I think so too. But originallh they were great vit they went too soft for my taste.
1, The Final Countdown
2. Europe
3. Prisoners In Paradise
4.Wings Of Tomorrow
5. Out Of This World
Cheers!
I watch all your videos even if the band you are reviewing is not my cup of tea. This band however is absolutely dreadful !! was hard to sit through without wanting to throw something at the screen 🤣
You need to listen to their first two albums then. Cause they are great and classic heavy metal. Nothing wrong with 'em.
