there is a strategy to beat it, you look at the path and there are 3 good paths and 1 bad path. It is random whether you will get the right path but you press the button of what you think is the best path. Usually it is random what path will get what though, but if there is only black lines you can go to the farthest, if the gold cannon is there try to go for the gold cannon, but sometimes in the last hits it is usually most random.
Lol if Bowser's minions got paychecks, then Chain Chomp would buy all of the bones in the world and Spike would buy as many spike balls as he can to defeat Mario XD
As far as I remember, on this Board in Story Mode, you better hope that the Magma hits Shy Guy or Magikoopa.

Why is that?
Because when you are the 1st always go to a Minigame
