So Who are Campervan Journey?
We are JT, Harry, Claire, Sam and Ben, oh and Hunny the Dog. We discovered campervanning in 2015 when we bought our first Volkswagen T5 Combo after seeing many at our favourite campsites. We were staying with our tent, and dreaming that one day we would have our own Campervan. After much research, we bought and converted our own T5 Kombi to suit our requirements, check out the video on the channel. We soon discovered that owning a Campervan is a way of life and it is not just about amazing trips round Europe, it’s as much about great days out and family time…
We have been lucky enough to visit some amazing places with our van, many of which we know we wouldn’t have seen if we had not owned it. They instil a sense of adventure and where shall we go into your life.
After 3 years with the T5, we upgraded to a Volkswagen T6 California Beach, our current van, and we continue to enjoy travelling and visiting some amazing places. You can check out our latest videos and adventures here on the channel !

Thought I wanted a Hymer until I saw the Columbus

Thanks for your review. It’s reassuring me that I am happy with my choice of a ocean. Still haven’t had it a year on but it’s looking good for collection soon, as it’s built and we have a number plate. The living space looks small and although you gain a fixed bed and bathroom it isn’t worth it for me. After doing deliveries in the Peugeot Boxer lwb yesterday I know that I don’t want to go down that route. It’s lovely to drive and I was on small back roads in wales, however I would probably stress on single track as that extra length would make ithard and the width makes back roads interesting when meeting lorries. (And that was on a normal country road that I am used to) It would definitely mean another car as not suitable for everyday use. It could be done but the hassle would drive me mad. So more expense and that’s to be avoided considering the current climate. I’d want to be able to afford using it. 😂 The children don’t come anymore and I didn’t see that coming…… it happened only after 3 years 😢😢😢. My youngest is 14 and I thought we would have more years. But the option is there if they wanted to. The ferries are cheaper as not too long and lots of people don’t actually use their showers in the van so it’s just for the toilet. Did want a van that I could just chuck my bike in but I’m willing to sacrifice that. What I would suggest is hiring a van and doing country roads and rural areas to see if where you would visit is accessible and that you are comfortable. After all it’s a huge financial outlay. Mind what is right for one person isn’t for others. Good luck with your search.
There's some great tips there Cathryn, trying one out for a few days to see the difference between the Cali and a 5.4 / 6M van is definitely something to consider. Our requirements mean that we would have a second run around car at the moment. Hope you haven't got to wait too much longer for your Ocean ! cheers JT
VW are fashion statements and day vans at best. Incomparable to any van conversion that has a bathroom.
Thanks for the review. I've put a deposit on a Columbus at the NEC. Now waiting for the dealer to tell me I actually can't have it such is the supply situation with Fiat at the moment!
