As a solo budget traveler who just wants to see the world, I always try to get the dirt cheap tickets. They help me see more of the world for less money. Yes, there are compromises, but I don't have an excess of funds...only an excess of wanderlust, haha.
I have been from NC to FL many times on Alligaint for around $40 each way, so far its been good experience and other than normal charges the price was what was quoted. I have also flew to Europe on average priced tickets and when comparing the two experiences they are the same...(except longer flight time)
same
KeepinIt350 : It is possible. Be flexible. Be willing to travel at weird hours of the day. Clear you cookies and your cache.
Work for an airline
KeepinIt350 This always seemed like a good reason to deal with travel agents. If you have total flexibility, just ask an agent where what and when their cheapest ticket to whatever continent, is. Generally they have some access to deals, one-offs and insights. If that costs me $50 for them to spend 30 minutes to set me up...hey I guess I’m going to this weird city over here, should be cool. :)
After watching Wolters World for two years...I had no idea he was a professor! I’m so curious now!
He is a professor of marketing PHD. It's on his website.
Reason #3 is now illegal in Canada. By law all flights departing from here must be advertised with all incidental costs included (taxes, airport fees, yaddi-yaddi-yah).
GOOD. I wish more regulations would be inputed requiring all fees to be included in the price or either CLEARLY advertised along with the fare.
Hi Mark! Can you make these lists? :)
5-10 things why you should not be scared to solo travel
5 things you will love/hate about traveling spontaneously
5 things you will love/hate about traveling on a budget
5 things you will love/hate about traveling off the beaten path

Thank you! :)
+lalilulelo well we have all or most if those already filmed or uploaded :) so don't worry.
Wolters World Thank you, Mark! 😀
Only these 2 are uploaded so far ..
5 Things You Will Love & Hate About Traveling By Yourself
5 Things You Will Love & Hate About Hostels
Super good suggestions!
Book on Norwegian.com then you get a very low price, Long Haul Dreamliner, good free wifi in Europe and only some small ekstra cost.
I don't know how many people have seen the ad where the little girl is selling lemonade: her sign says $1.00, then she tells a guy it is $2.37 because of fees, and starts naming the fees. It is TRUE! I encounter this kind of thing all the time. My utility bill has 6 different fees on it which apply whether you use a single watt of electricity or a single drop of water. And don't even get me started on hospital bills. AMERICA, the land of the fee! Sorry for hijacking this travel thread, but just watch for fees in hotels, even taxis in some places.
Casey Vee where the fuck do you like man? I’ve never had those fees on my utilities bill! You are getting ripped off!
Space Racer26 America! My utility bills have fees and more fees even my cell phone plan
@@kayzeaza in France too. You have a plan for electricity, plus you pay for what you use, plus taxes, plus a little more if someone from the company had to come even if you didn't request it...
Thank you so much. You are providing your children with such wonderful opportunities! I think that is great :)
+CrankyBubushka we are trying to :)
Thank u so much Mark I love your channel cuz it’s full for honest advices from a professional fellow traveler
I paied just under $1,500 for round trip airplane tickets from Detroit to Rome and back (booked directly with the airline). My travel times are never flexible. I have to request time off from work and then I just buy airplne tickets for the days I requested off at whatever price they cost.
+lyutsin21 that's basically how we end up too. That's why i shake my head when people say I got ripped off on flight tickets. I had a specific schedule and I am ok with the price so for me it's fine. I can't take a week off starting tomorrow because of some ticket deal.
I do the same. I book according to my days off.
@@Pidalin I sympathize. However, I am self employed and I can make practically any schedule work as long as I can plan it out in advance. All I can say is that there are trade-offs that come with any job or position. I trade the benefits that most people who work for a corporation take for granted. Fortunately, for many years my wife worked for a governmental entity and now that she has retired, we continue to receive health insurance and a retirement package. I am not directing this at you, but whenever someone takes a job they need to be acutely aware of the trade offs involved. I love travel and I would be unhappy in a job where I had difficulty taking time off.
What there are international flights from Detroit ? Lol
I love your channel! We haven't started our travels yet but your videos will help us when we do!!! Thank you!
Welcome! We just came back from LAS VEGAS and saw your videos before we went there. They were super helpful. Thanks. We're back in Nicaragua. We might be able to give you a few pointers here
+manuel salvatierra Nicaragua was great. We just got back. We filmed quite a few videos there so they will be popping up here and there :)
Thank you for the lovely pictures from Ouro Preto.
Thank you! Lots of great advice!!
Also, use incognito mode searching for tickets. Rates go higher if you are looking for tickets at one time.
The Random Vlogger not to mention the fact that you live in a high income area, you'll probably see how your rates than if you were surfing the web in a lower-income area
I have purchased roundtrip flights on JetBlue from JFK to BOS for $60. I just go for the day-- first flight out and last one back. I travel without luggage or a need for a hotel. I go for lunch and see the main sites in Boston.
+ESUSAMEX that's the way to do a day trip :) very cool
Wolters World: Thanks! I have also visited Burlington, VT; Washington, DC and Savannah, GA that way. I now understand why your wife loves Savannah so much! JetBlue is great for these day trips. Happy travels.
I paid £9.99 for a return flight from London to Fez, Morocco
ESUSAMEX dude some I've done that it's awesome
Barl Bailey Ryanair
Great Channel! learning a lot on saving and smart traveling, Thanks mate!
+Gus GK thanks Gus! That's what we try to do. All the best to you on your travels!
Thanks for all your videos!!!!! God bless you and your family :)
I love your honest and straight to the point videos so much! I hope you do more videos about marketing tactics by airlines, accommodations and shops in foreign countries on how they entice you on spending more or have hidden costs etc so that we can be aware! Esp since you are well versed in marketing and can definitely spot out the details we often overlook! Thanks for your awesome videos :)
+glowish1993 thanks for letting me know you liked it. I was wondering if people would like that angle :) will try to make morw
Wolters World yes. I love your honest answer. Thats why I subscribe.
When you see it, keep that window open when you check prices on other sites. Many sites like booking.com and other comparison sites have systems that download a cookie to your computer. They recognise the second time you visit their site (your ip address). The site knows what you looked for and that you are interested. The system automatically adds a % to the price.
Being a single traveler is the easiest way to find a cheap flight. The bigger the group the harder it is to get a discount.
You have to navigate the web in incognito mode to avoid selective pricing!
2 words... Thor Browser :-)
Antonio Pieri : Then the website displays a message telling you to turn off Private Browsing (or words to that effect) to continue to the information sought.
Otto Tieleman Yep 2nd time those tickets are never there even 3 months in advance the price goes up and the seats run out this is marketing bullshit or fraud then the carriers fly half empty when they don't have passengers and even though the fuel has come down the price havent last fece it it's greed greed greed
I don't think that's true
I thought the title was saying why you should never buy the cheapest tickets haha So I waited til after my trip to watch this since I bought cheap tickets and was scared to watch lol
😂
Me too 😂
The Golden Rule: You get what you pay for.
+SpottedSharks yep
SpottedSharks is
2nd Golden Rule: Read the fine-print.
SpottedSharks zap
no you dont. Ever since I was a kid I've always spent hours looking for cheapest tickets. As a result, I often have my neighbours in seats with tickets price 2x higher than mine even though they bought so much in advance compared to me
You get what everyone gets but you pay differently
Went with 25 euros to London(from eastern europe). I didn't choose my seat, I didn't take a check-in luggage, I didn't buy food on the plane. So it was actually 25 euros. It wasn't fancy, but no delays or issues.
Great Video. Thank you for posting.
You are very welcome. Thank you for watching and commenting
Do you get noticed by travellers often Mark?
When I was abroad in October I thought if I found you somewhere I'd would probably march up to you up and say "Oi you're the reason i'm even here!". Love your videos mate!!
SBK21 Lol right, I'd do the same thing!!
Even traveling in the off season, I just never seem to get the super cheap price. I love your videos. Thanks again.
+Samantha Gaudet we got one for Mexico and Jocelyn got one for Amsterdam but otherwise we don't get them either :(
We're cruising out of Vancouver to LA. We have a regional airport that we fly out from. When I was trying to find a good priced fare, the only way I could do it was to fly into Seattle and take a train to Vancouver. By going this way, it was $420 versus $670. That adds up with 5 tickets! I hear the train ride is beautiful, so we are really looking forward to it. It just goes to prove that there's always a better way if you look hard enough.
If you need to print a boarding pass you can use the hotels business center, or check with the from desk, you can email it to them and they will print it for you ,, I have never been charged.
going to paris 2weeks from now atlanta -paris $300 only 1 layover in new york for 2 hrs. with food and check in bags cant beat that!
Just brought ticket for my son to Europe 1/3 the normal price, but two legs one red eye flight and the other 10 hour lay over.
But worth it!
You have great content I liked and subscribed
you are awesome
thank u
We decided to ignore this advice when we planned our European trip. Our flight from Paris to London on a budget airline was supposed to leave at 8:00 pm but was delayed until 2:00 am. It was a good thing we didn't book train tickets though. They were on strike.
Great video.
Thanks for the tips Mark. Those beaches in Nicaragua look beautiful! :-)
+Bill Green they really are
This video was "diakachimba"! 😉 Thanks for the honest advice. It's greatly appreciated.
+I. Matamoros you are very welcone
My best advice is a package deal- flight + car rental or train pass or flight+hotel, even if the hotel is for 3 days of a 2 week trip, the package deal is usually the price of a stand alone ticket. The only caveat is you usually don't know the airline until you purchase, or how many layovers. Ive been burnt one time that way, stopping in every city in central America thinking it was a direct flight to Panama City.
Last year I got a one way rate of $31 from Phoenix to KC thru Southwest. Best deal I’ve ever got.
Wolters’ World I love your page, thanks for helping fellow globe-trotters!!
Insanely beautiful country... VIVA NICARAGUA!!! 🇳🇮❤️
Hi Wolter! I just bought a Roundtrip ticket to NYC for $300. I always buy them 3 months in advance and always get a deal. Love your channel.
+Marisa Zapata thanks Marisa
Marisa Zapata please help! Im going in July but I cant cant find anything less than $250
Marisa Zapata .... any details where you are traveling from ?? London to NY? LA to NY? Hong Kong to NY? How’ can someone tell it’s a good deal if they don’t know your origin ?
Sir Wolter World is the plug to travel guide 101
Love all your videos! Just curious what you teach? You sound so great to learn from!

Just booked $357 round trip SEA-AMS on United during Oktoberfest in Munich this year!
As someone who has booked the hotels and tickets for Barcelona and Rome for this coming September, I just kind of figured the price of flights is just the price and not going to stress too much about it. When traveling domestically and not on a tight schedule, that's different as I always have the option of driving. But abroad, limited time, fixed two week schedule, the price of travel is just the price.
Just picked up a roundtrip fron LAX TLV for $945 rt all in via SFO. I live in San Jose CA and I savec $700 this way for this summer on United with 1 checked bag! I used an Alaska voucher for a First class ticket to LAX. Other airlines had 36 hour layovers and were on low cost carriers.
Norwegian Airlines Providence R.I. (TF Green) to Ireland was $70 one way at one point but sold out quickly
I loved that most of your pictures were from Gol Airlines. I flew them between Sao Paulo and Navegantes in Santa Catarina, and the leg room was amazing. I didn't feel like a cow, like US airlines treat us today.
+matt18m18 so true. Gol was awesome
Hopper is a really great app that notifies you when your trip is at its lowest price! I got a trip to spain over the summer for 900$ on Air Paris and me and my boyfriend use it to travel a lot.
With Ryanair we recently got return tickets for 2 adults and 4 kids from Newcastle U.K to Majorca Spain (around a 2.5/3 hour flight) for £46 total!
+Jordan Malthouse that's awesome!
Jordan Malthouse I think Mark would agree that we miss having access to airlines like EasyJet and Ryan Air. Even cheap airlines in the US are usually (at best) 75 each way/per person plus fees. :(
I will be flying Ryanair this summer for the first time. Is there anything I should look for or expect with the airline?
I thought for sure you would mention the number and length of layovers on cheaper flights. I've seen cheaper tickets than had long or overnight layovers...so you'd have to wander around the Denver airport all night or pay for a hotel. I was really happy to get a direct Orlando to Paris flight this May for $462 on Norwegian Air. I didn't buy the $45 meal they offered, lol.
Also what I see all the time is the tickets are super cheap, but there is a super long layover at the airport or a super short layover where you can’t get to your gate in time
The most expensive ticket I paid to get to Europe from Florida was in 2013. About 1300.00 Last year I went for 500 and this year about 650. Keep an eye on those sales too. Some are only for a certain time of year or you have to go on their dates
Booked a trip to Amsterdam last month for this month. 14th to the 18th from the east coast for 715$ with hotel. I think that was pretty good only because we went 4 years ago and paid 1,100$ each. I was hearing ppl getting ticket for around 500$. But couldn’t find any for this trip that low. Can’t wait to get back out there tho!!😊
Another thing to consider is the time of the flight but you need to see if there is public transportation when you arrive or depart. Otherwise you will pay more on the taxi.
Regards from Costa Rica!
Best thing about travelling solo is not needing any of the little extras like checked bags or seat selection or on board food or ticket printing (doesn't everyone just use their phone as an eticket anyway?) as you only have to cater for yourself! It must be at least 10 times more planning to get your whole family in the air!! I know my £15 flight from Berlin back home to London will only be £15 no matter what which is nice!! :D Very informative video nonetheless though!!
In EU I got super convenient web page where I punch in dates and destinations, pick up transfers, airlines etc, if I like the price, I buy the tickets and it's total price with all included. You can print tickets, or you can just take a passport and show up at the airport, all your data is in the system.
That what I love u wolter
I bought a one way ticket from Boston to Copenhagen for $69.
Potting Soil
How did you do that?
I check Wow air daily, and they had a special at night, and I snagged a quick ticket.
Potting Soil
I never heard of Wow Air. Thanks for the tip!
I am surprised they allowed you into Denmark without a return flight ticket.
Wow Air is amazing and cheap! i flew last august to Paris from Montreal for 189$CAD
I got really lucky a few months ago and found a round trip from Portland to Kuala Lumpur for 540 dollars as opposed to the usual 1200.
+Adam Tortellini awesome!
I've never paid more then $400 for a ticket... And I've flown from Oregon USA to Denmark and then I flew from Denmark to Italy and from Italy to France and from France to New York and from New York to Oregon. Now I have a ticket I booked to Rome that I paid $21 for since I used a travel credit card and built up my miles over the last year.
like always your vídeos are lovely thanks, next time go to Guatemala .
+Rachel Lemus we will. We are trying to get all of central America over the next 18 months. So Guatemala is totally on the list.
Hi mark i am messiahsez on youtube. Nice talking to you. I meant what I said about lesons for your kid. I also like your style. You are making me smile!!!
I purchased RT JFK to Rome on British Airlines in September $380 yes $380. only 1 layover in Dublin for 2 hours...
+Susan Sartain awesome!!! I'm jealous! But super happy for you!
Which airline ? Im trying to get a good deal departing JFK....to rome in september
Ramberriaa. British Airways... use skyscanner.com most tickets were around the $600 range now. I booked at the Beginning of February.
thanks
Great video, my wife scans the web sites late at might, some times midnight when cheap tickets come out
+Seven PointFive what gets me is when I find a late night deal and when I go to book it says it can't find it anymore after I put all the flight and passenger info in
Wolters World I say this to my wife check the cache and really check the cost, else if you don't book then sure be that it will have gone
nice video, the key is to research every detail before you even book, how much transportation costs from the airport, would it be worth it to rent a car? does public transportation go where WE want to go? does the hotel charge for parking? whenever I travel, i do so much research that I know exactly how much ill be spending (for the most part) there's so much information on the internet and alot of people don't take advantage of it. unfortunately I don't have enough vacation time to travel the world much, but I drive to check out different places in America as much as possible. a far as hotels, if you're not too picky, I would HIGHLY advise anyone to try hotwire, or pricelines "Express deals" they don't tell you the name of the hotel UNTIL you pay, and its non refundable. but they tell you the amenities (free breakfast, free parking etc.) star rating, and even guest review ratings, as well as exact location. Alot of times with a little research you can narrow it down, and figure out exactly what hotel it is before you book.... I've gotten 4-5 star hotels for under $50 a night. I swear by it, ive been using them for years and have never even ONCE been disappointed in the hotel
I work night shift and when planning a trip I'll do an hourly search to that destination every night. I found the best rates...nut they last less than an hour... round trip ticket to London $650 and so on.
Best way to fly is to get premium economy seats for extra leg room and be at the beginning of economy cabins. You are also allowed to board early. Then pay for the use of business class airport rest areas while on a 2-3 hour connection. Free food, free booze, comfy places to rest or use their computers, free showers, and best of all no insane crowds. I am taking to you, London Heathrow. 😄
In Europe tickets are cheap in general. Especially on Ryanair.
I snapped up round trip from Texas to Rome for 2 weeks for $500 in January. Told my brother to do the same and he said "nah, I want to go during the summer"! 😅
900,000 dollar ticket from France to the USA? Wow!
+Lord Yllsacky it came with it's own plane ;)
the low cost carriers is my option as a budget traveller. i have flown 25+ in these and dont have a bad experience till now.
using miles is also a good option
I went from Dallas to Iceland for $300 round trip 2018, Dallas to Barcelona for $450 and Dallas to Amsterdam $560 in 2019.
A thing like that happens with Air Asia. You can check all their flights to an area. You can pick the best price bur the computer will not connect to the link on their web site to sell you the ticket you want. Some people have given up using them for that They also have many add ons like you say.
I managed to get R/T on British Airways from Washington, DC to Inverness for $523 each for the first week of June. Since I was going to Scotland during this time it was a great deal.
+Laura Valentine awesome!
We got $1024 tickets to ireland from hawaii. I think thats pretty good for flying to the other side of the globe
if you go from Europe to South America use Aerolineas Argentinas...great service, cheap tickets and European savety standards
I was able to get a $285 RT JFK/CDG on AirFrance non-stop but I did buy around 6 months in advance
Some of the crazy frustrating things are the taxes and fees airlines will charge when you're trying to purchase a ticket with frequent flier miles!
+KevinPDX1 yeah. 50,000 miles and $370 in fees for a free flight :)
+Wolters World $370? I use Delta miles quite often and my last three "free" flights with return were $91 to Mexico City, $101 to Bangkok and $109 to Sydney per ticket. I would probably pass using my miles for $370! Yikes!
It gets frustrating with domestic flights on some airlines. A ticket for 40,000 miles that would have cost like $300 still has $100 in taxes and fees after using those 40,000 miles. So essentially those 40,000 miles are only worth $150-$200. I've never had enough miles to purchase an international ticket so I can't speak to that.
KevinPDX1 airlines don't charge taxes. The bastard government does
Whe70 inch TV's for $5? Where do you go shopping Mark I need to know.
7. Cheap tickets will likely land you in secondary airports that are super far from the city you thought you were going to. Happens in Europe A LOT... (Ryanair and the likes) Add bus/train fare to expense list. Still worth it for me...
DO NOT FLY ALEGIANT. I flew from Oakland to a small town 40 minutes from Salt Lake City to ski. On the way back the plane had serious ice problems and engine problems and I was delayed 5 hours. I would much rather spend the extra 50$ to just fly straight to Salt Lake.
My step mom was with 2 kids fighting. They tried to split her from the kids and she was more than thrilled. They mysteriously found 3 seats together
How do you guys choose which airlines to fly on?
It's frustrating when you live in a hobunk state like me. Finding tickets to anywhere in the continental US for under $400 is near impossible. International starts around $1,800.
Cheap flights have always worked for me. I used to fly every second weekend from Bremen to Prague with ryanair to see my partner and it only cost 20€ return. Sadly they discontinued this connection now :/
You deserve millions of subscribers.
Shipping and handling for airline tickets?
I always wait until Black Friday / Cyber Monday to get my Air New Zealand tickets. Great prices LAX-LHR every year, without fail.
coffycup75
I’ll have to try that
In Europe a lot of the cheap tickets are at silly hours and/or obscure airports
Hope we see u back In Denmark soon
+Marcus gaming petersen I really want to get back with the kids.
$24 round trip Berlin to London on Ryannair, no regrets.
I know everyone hates Spirit Airlines, but in off-peak times with miles you can get dirt cheap tickets. But Spirit is only good for short flights. For example Detroit to Orlando is about 2 and a half hours so I don't mind not having much leg room, or no WiFi. Basically, if you re going on a long flight, I wouldn't recommend cheeping out. You just get what you pay for so
Am I the only one from Ireland who was like WHAT! When he said 300 dollars for Ireland! Because nobody ever talks about our country 😂
The "no cheap tickets" thing REALLY applies to cruise ships. I don't know how many times I have seen $495. cruise, only to find it is impossible to actually take the cruise for anything under $2000.
Can you do a video on the best sites to get good deals. I booked Rome for 2 weeks in July through Expedia for $3400 including a very nice hotel and first class flights all around. It seems like a great deal, but many say book through airline and hotel directly.
Thank you, Walter! I have a question, where do you usually stay when you travel? A Hotel? Rent a home? I have considered "buying a hotel" with Hilton and can stay at any Hilton hotel anywhere in the world.
+Miriam Myrsiades usually hotels but if we are going to be someplace for a week or more we get apartments.
Also, good luck if you need to connect to a major hub airport. That virtually guarantees the best prices aren't going to happen for you.
Sometimes, very rarely actually, what they offer matches what you´re looking for. It´s happened to me a few times. Some of the pictures inside the airplane you showed are from a Gol flight, the last time I flew Gol was in such a deal (Sao Paulo to Foz do Iguaçu, back and forth). Gol now has Wifi in their planes, they give you a free pass for the Wifi in your first experience, all the following flights you have to pay for it!
+Paulo Gaeta yep. We used gol quite a few times and were very happy with them
you have a beautiful familly!
