I feel like publishers don't need to do anything more in terms of promotional work than just ask you to talk about a book you have enjoyed. I have added so many books to my TBR just because of your infectious enthusiasm.
@@liamariavoelker4162 100 years of solitude*(really anything by Marquez), Pedro Paramo(my favorite), like water like chocolate and the house of the spirits.
Wow! What a cool concept for a video! Thank you! I've not been interested in the Priory of the Orange Tree until your description. Same with Jonathan Strange and Mr, Norrell.
I’ve seen the majority of these books from other booktubers and was never really interested, but the way you describe all of these stories make me want to read them immediately. 😭😭 Especially the His Dark Materials series!
I just started watching your videos lady month, first off I love your videos. They’re always super cozy and informative. Also I bought the house in the cerulean sea and the priory of the orange tree, just getting ready to start the house book
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke also has such vivid world building despite the setting being so limited and meandering (as much as I can say without spoilers 😅), it’s absolutely one of my favourite books of all time!
Love this video, Christy! Some of my favorites are on here (Priory is probably my favorite fantasy novel!!). And you’ve encouraged me to read Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I have a copy, but I’ve been putting it off because I’m a bit intimidated!
It is intimidating, but the pay-off is more than worth it! I read it from Christy's recommendation as well. The amount of attention to detail that went into this book really does make it feel like like it truly happened in English history, and although the style is quite academic it's never boring. For me everything about it is amazing, 5/5.
I loved Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, as well as the His Dark Materials trilogy. Have you ever read anything by Neil Stephenson? The world building in The Baroque Cycle is brilliant.
Give me pages after pages of description and detail. Loved His Dark Materials and LotR as a kid, visualizing every bit of the world in my head. Another favorite is Carlos Ruiz Zafon's "Cemetery of Forgotten Books" -series. I could feel myself walking down the streets of old Barcelona when reading them. :)
I find this gem(channel) when the RUclips recommend me the ``Murakami schedule video``.I watched and I felt in love.I like your stile, Christy - the songs, the colours and the passion for those books. This kind of thing is very touch. You are a true writter. Love from Brazil(and, in the future, Canada). Bye.
Ooh I agree with you, have read several of the books you recommend, and have three I havent read yet...The fifth Season, A hundred years of Solitude Snd Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. I must give that last book of more chance, sounds much more interesting after you've described it! Thank you! I'm reading The Daevabad Trilogy right now and it's world building is really unique and interesting. Highly recommend! Definitely want to read The Name of the Wind. I ordered She Who became the Sun recently but canceled it when I read about how much violence there is in it.
Love Name of the Wind! I read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell this year it was the second book i read and im still thinking about it 💫 Im reading Lonely Castle in the Mirror next month 😊
I just found out your channel while I was struggling with writers block and I absolutely adore your channel I have watched more than 10 videos in one day! Thank you for all the handwork
Reading is a badass exercise for the brain. I enjoy channels that have book content and not just gaming. Both are unique in their own way. But it’s cool to know that you like, Final Fantasy.
The Egyptian by Mika Waltari, The Etruscan by Mika Waltari, both outstanding, Wild Sheep Chase by Murakami was exciting 20 years ago, recently The Tainted Cup by R.J.Bennet made me feel alive again after finishing GOT 10 years ago
I clicked on this video hoping Dune (the first book at least) would be mentioned. Nonetheless, I recommend that and also The Goblin Emperor for books with great world-building 😄
I Love Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I rated it 5 out of 5. For me, however, the world building in Clarke’s Piranesi is even more extraordinary. Susanna Clarke is a gift to readers. I’m glad you included her.
I have been putting off reading Brandon Sanderson books for the longest time for no good reason. I recently started reading Warbreaker (guys, it's a free ebook!) and my goodness, now I know what an amazing worldbuilding is. I'm seriously impressed and I can't wait to completely immerse myself into the Cosmere world!
My favorite world is the world in One Piece!! It's sooo fantastic. There's a video called "The Breathtaking World of One Piece" and it shows you the BEAUTY and INSANITY of the One Piece world.
The world building of One Piece is spectacular and I love it. It's definitely the best and most creative worldbuilding of anything I've read--the sheer volume of it alone makes it enthralling, but I also love how clear the rules of the world are and how intriguing the mystery of the world is! (it's not a "book" but maybe I should have included it here?? hahah)
I agree with you on His Dark Materials and The priory of the Orange tree. Incredible world building and excellent representation of female protagonists in fantasy genre. I was also thinking the same abt HDM on how is this for children, it's all very grown up stuff. 😅
I think the word "world-building" has too broad a definition. Imagery, atmosphere, and mood are very different from scale, geography, and politics. The former is very much tied to emotional depth and is at its core elliptical and open to interpretation. The latter is analytical and definitive, quantifying measurements and names in very technical language. They are more so two opposing methods that conflict with one another so I don't see the value in combing them into a single group.
also! i live in the south usa (aka bible belt) and in 2006/6th grade we were reading his dark materials and it got banned while we were reading it and my teacher got fired and we think that's why bc we read it anyway.
I personally didn't like the priory of the orange tree No pude conectar con ningún personaje, todo era demasiado conveniente y en vez de mostrarte la historia te lo contaban... todo se sentía demasiado irreal, inverosímil para mí. :"D
I've really enjoyed listening to your thoughts and book recommendations lately. I share enthusiasm for some of your favourite books. If you are interested in books that create detailed and immersive worlds, I recommend one that no one talks about anymore. Shardik by Richard Adams of Watership Down fame. Shardik is a fantasy novel about a remote community in the Beklan Empire that has historically worshipped a bear god and what happens when a giant bear that embodies their conceptions of their god is driven by a forest fire to their island. Shardik is one of my favourite novels. The world building in this book is amazing and the writing is beautiful. And the plot is designed to make you think deeply about the nature of religious belief, material success and other topics. Here is a link. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shardik

I love the Murakami-esque world building where fantastical elements just show up in the real world in a very matter-of-fact way.
It’s called magical realism! Tons of great Latin American authors do the genre amazingly
Favourite worlds by far. I love him so much.
@@Иблис96 any recommendations?

Yeah, thank you
Christy you would be an amazing literary critic! What engaging and thoughtful commentaries!
Thank you so much!! 😊
This video starting with the Broken Earth trilogy is giving me hope!
Thanks for the tips
Just followed your recommendations and picked up all of them…but I’m saving some of them for my “Century of Books” challenge next year. Thank you !

I looooove it but I need to stop recommending Piranesi AND Jonathon Strange for every single recommendations video, so I just picked one 😅
One of my favourite books as well.
So many great books on this list! Name in the Wind and, the fifth season are on my tbr!

Beautiful video as always, because of you I bought Neil Gaiman book's. Thankyou for sharing your thoughts with us Christy.

I’ve heard so much about The Fifth Season!
It's absolutely brilliant! 💛
I loved Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, as well as the His Dark Materials trilogy. Have you ever read anything by Neil Stephenson? The world building in The Baroque Cycle is brilliant.
Just started this video and love your criteria for world building. I'm hoping Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast series makes the list.
Give me pages after pages of description and detail. Loved His Dark Materials and LotR as a kid, visualizing every bit of the world in my head.

I love world building too!! 😊💛

Have you read any Brandon Sanderson? His world building is renowned in his fanbase, high fantasy on the levels of Pratchett and Tolkien
Add "Lonely castle.." in my tbr. I like "Welcome to Night Vale" - it has weird, but amazing world!

I didn't liked N. K. Jemisin's books tbh but I agree with the fact that she created a new world for this saga
Do inspiring ✨
I think you would really like Momo by Michael Ende ☺️
I second that!!
you need to read my novel, Dragon Fire, but my new novel, Book of Answers, (sci-fi) has some crazy worldbuilding

I did not enjoy the lonely castle in the mirror. It is written for young teens in my opinion. I just couldn’t relate and found it to simple.

Hmm
Lonely Castle in the Mirror is basically, an adaptation of Peter Pan.
I don't think it's similar to Peter Pan at all. The only real similarity between them is that they're both portal fantasies 😊
