    A tip for WPtuts (or any online) instructor: if you scale your screen down for recording to smaller dimensions, elements on the page would appear much easier to see. When a large pro monitor is recorded and scaled down to RUclips screen shrinks elements, specially if one wants to take notes on part of their screen.

    Probably the best tutorial on GeneratePress, GenerateBlocks and ACF. Although I wish you had used more fields to practice more ACF functions. I still mess around a bit with the styles of the blocks.

I have been struggling with this problem for a long time, the default woocommerce pages are not good at all. And in the block generatepress elements, i cannot use data from products, because there is no post meta of product data choice.

    Came across your channel - really amazing and useful! One question - When having an external database to build pages (In this example - watch hotel information is taken from this database), can I use this data as input to the custom fields and the loop query? Or does it work with internal WP content only?

    Hi Paul, thank you so much for this great tutorial! What a lifesaver! Just one question about "Field group fields" vs "Taxonomy".
    When do you use just Field group fields, and when do you create a Taxonomy? How do you decide which one to use when you are setting up meta fields?
    Thank you in advance 🙏🙏🙏

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Год назад

      The million dollar question. I tend to look at the data structure and what makes the most sense for structure, grouping and filtering. Then, take those elements and make those taxonomies.

    Hi Paul. Total newbie here, most of what I learned so far about wordpress and gp is from one video of yours. I am building a site and envision it becoming complex in the future. Should I study your video now or months later, after my site has a few posts in it? Is it overkill to learn all this stuff about acf etc now? Or now is the best time to learn, before I really start filling it with content? Of course I subscribed;-)

    Nice video, Paul. I am about to build a website like this. I have a few questions.
    1. Why did you have to use 2 different templates for the accommodations page?
    2. Can I use relationship and repeater custom fields with Generate Press and Generate Blocks? (assuming that I'm using ACF Pro.)
    3. Also, when creating the hero, why didn't you use REMs for the title instead of EMs?
    I appreciate any help you can provide.

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Год назад +1

      1. Because I have 2 different types of facets/filters - one for each. I could have hooked the filters into the same template, but would have ended up with 3 templates to manage over 2.
      2. You can, but they are not natively supported by GB, so would require using ACF code to implement.
      3. No real reason. I wasn't really focusing on the design techniques so much. REM's would have been a better solution for sure. :)
      I hope that helps. :)

      As someone who is currently building a complex custom listing website, and started out with Generate Press/Blocks, my advice would be go with Bricks instead - it's way more capable with dynamic data. Generate covered about 65% of what I needed. I had to add GreenShift (for dynamic sliders and galleries) and custom BlockStudio blocks to get the rest working - which worked... but was very complex and would be a pain to maintain in the long run. Bricks covers 95% of what I needed out of the box. Regarding your question 2 for example - want to do something like dynamically populate an accordion FAQ from an ACF repeater field? Generate can't do that, Bricks can. For anything that Bricks can't do natively, it offers a code element so you can drop in whatever you need, wherever you need it. Generate is great for simpler sites, but for complex builds, you'll quickly run into limitations imo.

      @@amarvillar1 it's not all that steep to be honest and there are a lot of great tutorials out ther covering it.
      I have a collection of tutorials, including a recent one on building a filterable listing (similar to this tutorial) over on learnbricksbuilder.com/ :)

    • @stevebaker2896
      @stevebaker2896 Год назад

      @@amarvillar1 Bricks has an excellent intuitive UI considering how deep it can go. Like with any tool, it depends if you already know what you want to achieve with it or not - by that I mean are you learning css and general web design at the same time as learning Bricks? If so there's certainly a learning curve. But if you already know css and how to build sites then you'll get up and running with Bricks very quickly. I found it way faster to work with than Generate because with Bricks you work with everything in one place rather than build lots of different elements separately and then 'inject' them where you want them. I'd say Bricks is easier to learn than Generate press/Blocks (and Gutenberg generally) - and that's before you even get into figuring out all the workarounds you need to do with the latter to get where you want to go.

    Accomodation types could also be a field with checkbox. Why did you make it a separate category? Is there any advantage to have fields or to have categories? I believe fields are also filterable like categories.
