That's funny because it's really a siege/bombardment weapon, not really a defensive weapon. You would need an enormous home to use a siege mortar for home defense. And then there's the roof to consider - firing and targeting. You would literally have to shoot from the far guestroom way in the back part of the property past the pool to land your rounds on the home invaders presumably coming in the front door.

Was not expecting an actual projectile out of that. Most firings of old artillery are just powder/blanks. That was awesome to see the actual distance and direction this piece can get. Also, good job, kid, on the firing. That had to have been fun.

I cant stand blank-fire cannons. Hella videos on them of exhibitions in European countries, and 95% are firing blanks, presumably because firing a projectile would be illegal. A huge joke.

A friend built a propane pumpkin cannon that could fling them more than a quarter mile. Mostly he fired them across his fields, but one day raised the elevation and flung one further, into the copse beyond the field - and flushed out a couple of poachers! ROFL
The idea of battles through history just makes me wonder how any of them actually ended, I always think about the Japanese soldier who carried on for decades after the war ended and that’s with modern technology, planes dropping leaf lets saying the war ended. I’m just trying to imagine before Roma if people went to battle I’d assume it would never end until everyone’s dead, gone or deserted.
