You can't be serious... Noone does this song like Gillan, even to this day. Same with 'Burn', which noone sings like Coverdale, which Turner tried to sing, but "forgot" most of the lyrics for during the entire 'S&Masters' tour. His voice sucked compared to the Rainbow days, and owadays. Ian Paice: "Turner was from the American AOR music scene, while we are British hardrockers...it was never going to last..that combination."
pls ppl give joe a break, he is not gillan, he has his own style.. the slaves n masters album is a good album...gillan is my all time fav frontman, but i will give joe the credit that's due to him on that album. this might not be his greatest concert with purple, but he did very well with rainbow in the japan concert.
To all Gillan admirers (which I'm one too) I've seen on you tube a performance of Highway Star by Gillan in which he did lot worse than JLT in this performance. Lets face it, Ian lost his vice abilities from his best period, while Joe' abilities are still high

All the bandmembers except Blackmore, who suddenly agreed when getting his bank account filled up, decided to fire Turner and get Gillan back. I'm glad they did even though Gillan could not sing like he used to. Hasse Holm You're either dumb or too young to remember Ronnie James Dio because he WAS the best singer that Rainbow ever had. He would have been great in Purple too. Even though he was dying because of Cancer he was a better singer than both Turner & Gillan.

I agree. I can't stand Ian Gillan's voice anymore. He's such a slob and obviously didn't care enough about his talents to preserve them. I don't blame Blackmore for leaving Deep Purple. Why should a still amazing Blackmore be held back by an old fart who has no voice anymore. I find it hilarious that DP are still touring and making money off of the sounds that Ritchie wrote, even though he has moved on 20 years ago.

EGO was maybe TURNER'S problem, he felt he could sing any song, he did a good job on other tracks. i'm afraid he was not accepted by the rest of the PURPLE members BECAUSE the album didn't sell, IT LOOKS like TURNER was the one to blame... i wonder why the rest ot the band didn't contribute a bit more.
