- A quick line by line comparison I made for the live intro of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" in 2017 and 2023. There aren't really any high notes so I didn't bother to label the notes.
2023s vibrato is vibratoing. Also didn't realise how HV dominated she made this song in the past.
What’s HV?
@@rainbowstarmced191 head voice
@@yeetvocals3786 ok thanks
I think it's falsetto, but yeah! The original is mostly head voice on the intro
That “gooooood” tone in 2023 held longer is on repeat
that note has definitely been more resonant in 2023!
OMG not 2023riah outsinging 2017riah😭
She's sounds more healthy and more relaxed!
Bullseye 🎯
Her voice was clearer and she had more ease in 2017. But her voice in 2023 is much more fluid and her tone is more buttery.
2023 tone omg 😍😍 also she sounds more fluid now is it just me
Her 2023 tone really😭❤️
Sounds less raspy and less restrained in 2023
It's because she's learning what she can't do now. It's been a difficult lesson for her especially since she has such a huge back catalogue of difficult notes and runs.
@@joseph9531indeed!
2017 sounds so much like her 1994 voice at some parts (especially at "Peace on Earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled")
Both sound so good, the deeper chest tones ins 2023 are great and the transitions to falsetto in 2017 are unreal
2023 is eating sm
Her tones were so similar between 2023 vs 2017
WE NEED MORE 2023 videos
Why is 2023 better tho
The flexibility may leave an older voice, but a deeper and warmer timbre appears. Another comment described it as “buttery”. I love older female voices, they are richer and vibrato adds character and spirit to a long note. If you notice, the 2017 voice although clearer and easier to reach notes is thinner and more shrill. I hope Mariah Carey can lower her musical charts and embrace her age instead of trying to compete with her past.
She's singing in lower notes so has more of range to play with.
@ah7910 2017 had more butter and it sounded warmer. 2023 has a heavier but also more metallic and nasal tone
2023 A4 is better imo
2023 outsold
the way her tone is the same
If you blind tested me I literally would not be able to guess what’s what
Her current tone is so Caution imo
Her tone is a lil bit nasally rn
@@ramirodineroronan It's nothing like Caution😭 listen to Christmas 2018 and 2019 then to Christmas 2017 and tell me caution christmas is closer
Her current voice is a mixture of 2017, 2018 and 2019 imo.
Omg they are alike
2023 ate 2017 up but 2017 had better transitions
On the contrary, I believe the transitions to falsetto was weaker.
@@firstLast-iw5xqmy theory is that she IS working with a coach because her legato singing has been VERY present this year and she’s not using the airy headvoice anymore
2023 she sounds like she was sick but she holds her own against 2017. 2017riah looked and sounded like less of an effort though
Omg I prefer 2023
Why is no one talking about 2023 vibrato😭😍😍
Notice how she pulls the mic back for bigger notes… she should incorporate more mic techniques when she’s lip syncing so she’s more convincing. No lip syncing here though, but when she does she keeps the mic so close to her mouth
Maybe her bad lipsyncing is intentional
@@evelynn4841 Mariah is a known bad lipsyncher😭 I love her but this is the truth. But when she SING!! SHE SANGGGGGG🥹
@@McWhCl right right HAHAHA
Thinking of ways she can lip sync more convincingly? 🙄
@@evelynn4841 that’s too bad
2023 u couldve used a better date 😭
do another 2023 video vs 2017
I'll try😂
Her voice is always amazing and she’s been live a lot more on this tour but she’s lowered the key on all the songs so she can sing it live. Also her whisper tone hasn’t been used at all on this tour so it’s likely she’s been sick recently but amazing always
2023 is better than 2018 and wayyy better than 2022, but 2017 was just magical, it's a different league, 2017 is up there with 2014 as one of her best years in 00s and 10s
I think a good comparison would be 2014 vs 2023. In this song particularly she didn’t sound that different imo, and it’s almost a decade apart.
not 2023 slaying 2017
2017 sound more resonant, 2023 is more nasal and strain 😢
Strain???
2017 is waaaay better
2017 sounds more free. She sounds like shes squeezing in 2023
No 2023 sounds fluid and relaxed, less strain and pushing.
@@joseph9531i agree with the original comment. Her voice sounds much more fragile now and nasally. She def improved since 2022 but 2017 sounded more consistent and solid
5 years on and it sounds even worse :) thats the reality
Can you be more specific? How is it worse?
I like it more now. The heavier tone is nice, almost back to her debut tones.
2017
