This might be the best educational poker series I have seen. I play cash and this series has added a large number of tools to my toolbelt. Really like the check back flop to protect your turn range in position. Turn is the most challenging street for me and this tip will really help me prepare for it a lot of spots.
Another very insightful and interesting hand breakdown Daniel, appreciate the explanation of checking top pair on the flop. Definitely don't want to be overplaying top pair, but also be prepared to call turn and being cautious so opponents can't exploit you for just playing 2 pair or better. Thanks again man!
Excellent! The actual wisdom required to play, exceeds the level of thought that most people put towards the game! The more I study the more I think of Hercule Poirot, 'The little gray cells, they do not lie' I believe it's hard for people to set ego aside and allow true-self to make decisions that are logical. Ego can't understand small ball, and True-self just shakes it's head at the grandeur of Ego. True self is sadistic, and Ego seems masochistic. No wonder they both live in our heads.
Been out of poker for a while... But the recent PokerGo content and then this video is slowly getting the buzz back for me. Great video Daniel, understood it fully and it's amazing because most of these in depth terms like EV and theory optimal terms wasn't around when I played. But you explain it all so well and so concisely. You're a credit to the poker world my friend.
I started playing poker in 2013 without the slightest prior knowledge and my main source of inspiration was watching your games. As far as I know about poker today, you are its shareholder
My brain feels bigger from watching this video. The break down is by far the most insightful and accessible I have ever seen. Long time fan! Daniel....YOU are the GOAT.
With all the twitter poker drama, its so nice to just watch poker and learn from one of the greats, if not the greatest player ever. Good luck this year for the WOSP cant wait for the vlogs!!
This is one of the hands that might not look like much to learn from, but they are actually the hands that give you the edge over weaker opponents. Also Daniel, explains it 👌
Thanks for doing these, Daniel. The depth of analysis is really awesome compared to what else you see out there. To be able to learn from your years of experience is cool.
Another great addition to this series. Grinder hands, 90% of what happens at the table. We all love to see AK v AA, but it's these kind of hands that win $3M, like a 8-10, right?
Yo Daniel I'm just coming from Charlie's most recent video with a recap of twitter spaces with you. I just wanted to reach out and apologize for letting that rake meme bs effect my opinion of you at the time. I think I even left a negative comment or two at the time and you were gracious enough to respond. Well done not getting in the mud and still coming out on top, and again I'm sorry for any negativity i sent your way. Good Luck!
Daniel, what would you suggest be the first book a winning recreational poker player should read to improve their game? I know you talk about Modern Poker Theory and that it may be difficult to follow, so do you have alternatives?
Just passing by to send much love, Daniel! Always been a fan, but I have to admit I bought into Doug's bullshit about "more rake is better" and all of that. I almost cried listening to your spaces talk with Carrel and others and like Charlie, I'm truly sorry for not siding with you on that! Peace bro, see you at WSOP some day!
Love these videos Daniel, they’ve been really useful to my understanding. I wanted to ask, you mentioned during the flop how you have a lot in your range that can connect, but I notice you didn’t consider chances of flopping a set. Is it pointless to consider chances of trips? I’d think if Daniel has more in his range that can connect, then Daniel also has more chance of flopping a set off the low card, 6, than I do if I was 4xing pre flop.
Appreciate the great Vlogs this year again . Sorry for some of my comments I just have to say it the way I see it . LOL . You are still Nice guy and a Hard Working Poker Player !
Daniel, thank you very much for your videos. You have the best poker educational videos on RUclips. I hope I will become a pro poker player one day too. You are a real legend. Greetings from Ukraine. Wish you a nice day✨
This is a great point, thanks Daniel. After looking back at some of my hands I'm definitely guilty of having an exploitable turn call range. Gonna keep this in mind going into my next sessions
To me the most interesting decision in this hand is Chewy checking flop because I imagine it is a board a lot of his draws bet big, he just has enough of them that he needs to be selective.
Man, that's where I realise you guys are honestly in a league of your own. You have us, winning players, and then there's you, the pros😂! Your approach to the game and these "inside Daniel's mind" videos have really improved my game. Awesome content! Whenever you go back to Toronto, I'll meet you heads up (and get demolished😂)! Take care man!
Daniel, it's been a long time since you played a on line tourney Live (on delay) hope to see one soon. P.s to the mere mortal average man, "how to win 3 million dollars in 3 days" sounds ridiculous, not even a fraction of 1% would even be in the position to do so. All said goodluck man!
Double suited connected boards like these are my favorite. The T is interesting in blocking T8, but as you pointed out, the suits and the Q are terrible to bluff the river with
Daniel came across as a real baby on the Polk twitter live event. Telling Doug to make videos not based on views made him sound clueless. All I heard was sour grapes for someone who has been a bully in the industry. Whatever I guess.
Sir, will you volunteer an hour of your time during the wsop June 16th ish and attend a poolside poker podcast at Aria? Bottle service with the Dange n' company. Thanks!
Great explanation of the line. But I have a question: the concept of a blocker makes lots of sense when you can "eliminate" a certain RANK of card. But in the case of a SUIT blocker, isn't the probability impact relatively small? If I have a J and there are only 3 left, the probability of a J has decreased by 25%. If there are two spades on the board, then by me also having a spade the probability of the opponent having another spade goes from 11 to 10 -- about a 10% decrease in probability. Please correct my math if I am missing something. Isn't it fair to say that all the other factors that lead you to one action over another must be a very very close call for a suit blocker to matter?
You aren't wrong but not entirely correct either. First of all, not all instances of a certain suit are played. So there aren't really as many spades in play because some spades fold (27 with the 2 of spades folds pre for example). Also, just by blocking 1 spade you block around 1/7 of all suited combos (78 combos without block and 66 with block), and with a high spade you block a big portion of the good ones. Unsuited combos is similar but your impact is a bit less. But the impact of having a suit blocker is higher than 10% because hands come in pairs of 2 cards and the combinatorics is different.
Please don't bite my head off, but honest question. Why did you look at your cards again after the $405K bet was made? If I'm dealt a hand worth playing, I memorize the cards, including suits, and don't look again unless I have to show for showdown.
REALLY NOW 🤔 destroyed him 😂😂😂 Doug would never play DNegs heads up for that many hours live that’s why it was online because Doug made a big deal about it after talking hella shit about DNegs it was a go fund me event for Doug
I'm a humble rec and I play micros, so all the stuff explained here has almost no value at my tables because the average level of thinking is "I hit bottom pair I'm all in!", but I love listening to Negs. The way he talks about poker, players, maths, strategy is so satisfying. DNegs is the greatest of all times because not only he is super good at poker, but he is a great Master! 🙌
Solid poker concepts apply everywhere, even microstakes. The biggest misconception people have is I play small stakes so it doesn’t apply to me. For example, when Daniel says having the Td makes it so your opponent can’t have KdTd holds true at any level, just cause it’s micro stakes doesn’t mean this is not true.
@@justmusic2353 I agree 100%. But my comment was not just about combos. I'm speaking in general. Negs is why I like playing poker. He was a legend way before gto was a thing.
This might be a rookie question, and im not really sure if the man himself answers questions in comments, but ill shoot my shot! The reasoning of the turn bets and call make alot of sense, but would it be a poor play by Licthenberger to again overbet the river? Based on his pre-flop, could he legitmatly rep AA, KK, QQ or any potential sets? Would you have called an all inn?
First of all: you are doing a great job with these videos. I really enjoy them. I'm not saying that justify my next move, which is to disagree with you when it comes to AL's overbet. Against a lot of players it is fine, even though I am not the biggest fan of these bets in general, but against someone that is as sticky as hell (as you are), I think it too often is building a pot for the opponent. Against a player that is super sticky, you simply don't win the pot on the turn often enough for it to be profitable, I think. Would this pot had any other outcome if the bet was 305k? Or even 205k? I know this in only one single pot and not a sample size, but feel free to use this question to make a video to look at the different outcomes of different bet sizes. Everything I write here in 100 % based on my own thinking and no solvers, so I am sorry if i have (or will) be proven wrong. I think the discussion is an important one however you look at it.

Funny modern day poker is just memorising what a computer would do. The modern game is really no different to a simple memory game. Quite sad how the game ended up really.
Well, with one card you are not really "blocking" a lot, even though you reduce the number of possible combinations. Good example: once I had KK and the board paired and showed a straight which could have been realized by holding KT. I excluded that my opponent had a boat, which was right. But he hold the KT, even though I was "blocking" the Kings, with the two of those that I hold. Yes, there had been only two kings out, not four - which made it less likely that he had those (together with the ten), but he did, of course. It is less likely, but it is not really "blocked".
Sometimes though you really are blocking very specific holdings of your opponent. He never will have the but flush if you hold the specific ace for example.
Some of your advice really doesn't apply to the "regular" player. You see, our hole cards, for the most part, are NEVER revealed. Every successful bluff is NEVER seen. Every bluff folded is NEVER seen. There is a lot of information you RIGHTFULLY claim you shouldn't give to your opponent, but that really only applies to the Poker Pros who have their "hole" cards revealed. It is also why, YOU MUST change up and randomize your play to the extent that you do...I can watch 100's if not 1000's of hours of you playing (and I have), a BIG part of your success is your complete and utter unpredictability. In a nutshell.. Your COMPLETELY logical play, is ILLOGICAL. And that my friend, makes you very DANGEROUS.
I’ve actually been getting into 3-betting hands like JT off, instead of polarizing. Same can be said that it’s an easy fold to a 4-bet; but if you do get called, it’s a hand that makes the nuts often, and in spots where your opponent will want to call. Plus top pair has show down value sometimes
