Hello and welcome to Enquire 2 Choir! :)
This is a channel created for everyone working in the choir field; aimed to help mostly non-professionals, who are in a choir, who are looking into starting a new choir, who have certain questions about managing, directing or conducting a choir, because there is a lot of work when it comes to choirs!
My name is Iva, and I am a professional pianist who somehow landed a career conducting and managing several choirs - so I know from experience how difficult it can be when you don't have any help. It doesn't matter if your choir is a big or small one, if it's a church or a school choir, if its members know how to read music or not. Every choir is an important choir because it assembles people wanting to sound great, and to feel accomplished. This is why every week I will try my best to give the most efficient advice on issues concerning from music to management.
So go on, subscribe, and be a part of Enquire 2 Choir!

I'm restarting my tiny church's choir with no experience or training, just a love for singing. Your channel is, hands down, the best resource I've found! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge!

That sounds awfully familar. I'm in a similar situation. I hope its going well for you and the choir.

I wish I'd found this channel 9 months ago when I volunteered to get the music going again at my church. It had died and we were using canned music, and that's just not right. Thing is, I'm basically a wind instrument player, and everyone else who showed up was a singer, and only two other people at that. Fortunately I also play harp, so I've been accompanying on that, but it's far from my main instrument and I've never run a group of musicians before or dealt with choosing music for one so it's been a massive uphill battle. Also, I've never had a private singing lesson in my life and my choir experience was erratic and long ago. We've gotten much better and gained a singer since we started, but I still feel out of my depth. I'm going to start singing lessons in a week or two, because singing while sitting down with a lapharp strapped round me is causing difficulties in singing well, and in order to keep others happy I'm singing lower in my voice than I'm used to, over my lower vocal break. And putting the same kind of effort into my singing that I put into my wind instruments has been on my to-do list for a long time. I keep being asked to sing in various situations, so I should really learn to do it well.
I think your channel will be a great resource for me, and I'm glad I've found it. Some of it will assume a lot more resources and higher expectations than the little mini-choir we've ended up with, but I think I will get a lot out of it and it will make me able to do a better job. This is great, because I hate feeling like I'm doing a poor job.

Thank you for sharing. It has been very helpful for me thus far. You never know what an impact you are making just by sharing your experiences with those who have very little.

What is the best way/resource to learn about pronouncing hard consonants in choral singing?

I'm toying with the idea but was thinking of using backing piano electronically and control it with a tablet or laptop, does anyone know of software you can use that shows the bars when you load the mp3 in?
